Mounjaro to Wegovy

goldylock · 08/03/2026 16:27

Hi all,

Ive been on mounjaro since 1st Jan 26. I had 2 stone to lose. To now, lost just over 1/2 stone.

I have tolerated MJ very well/zero side effects. But very slow losses. I decided to stay on MJ, 5mg for a second pen, and have no supression now.

The issue is, I'm in Ireland and the cost of MJ, 7.5mg is almost e400. I had agreed with myself when starting to draw a line at cost of 5 mg, and if I was doing very well, could go up to 7.5 mg, if justifiable. But I think it's just too insane a cost for 1lb every 1 or 2 weeks.

I am considering switching to Wegovy/semaglutide. Has anyone done a switch? How was it and what dose did you start from?

Ive asked the place where I get the prescription from and the response was, well, "What dose do you want to start?".

Assuming I'd start on 0.5mg (second highest) and go from there?

Any advice at all, would appreciate it.

Wegovy isn’t as strong as Mounjaro, so if you’re not having much success on MJ, I’d be concerned about progress on WG.

Have you made sure that you’re doing all that you can to support suppression and losses? Eg tracking to ensure you’re in a calorie deficit, and focussing on high protein which keeps you satisfied for longer?

goldylock · 08/03/2026 16:47

@TokenGinger have you switched/experience of switching?

MJ and weg have totally different active ingredients/act on different pathways.

Yes, I eat very well and am quite active.

I switched and put weight on. So switched back to MJ

SeaTurtle13 · 08/03/2026 16:50

I switched from MJ to WG when the price rises kicked in.. no real difference but I've been doing it slowly (stayed on each pen for 8 weeks at least)

OrdinarySloth · 08/03/2026 16:52

I switched to Wegovy and have found it basically useless compared to Mounjaro. I lost 8 stone on Mounjaro (over 18 months) and have gained 3 stone since I came off it (2 stone while I was unmedicated, 1 stone while taking Wegovy).

When unmedicated, I have unbearable hunger and cravings that I literally cannot ignore. Wegovy takes those away. But even on 1mg Wegovy there’s still constant food noise, I get cravings and it has no effect on what quantity of food I can eat. Whereas on Mounjaro from day 1 the food noise turned off like a switch and my portions easily halved.

I switched because of the price difference, but plan to switch back again. I’m on a medium dose of Wegovy (1mg) but genuinely think 2.5mg or 5mg of Mounjaro would be more effective.

Thelondonone · 08/03/2026 16:52

I’ve used we govt and had no suppression at all-I’m bingeing more. Going to try mj.

Flapearedknave · 08/03/2026 16:59

I moved and have found it fine. But I'm in maintenance.

A little food noise is back.

I switched from. 15 mj to 1.7 wgvy

I'm in Ireland not the UK, and Wegovy is 1/2 the price, even on the highest dose vs 7.5 mg of MJ.

I haven't found MJ as responsive as others. Seems unjustifiable to go to 7.5 mg at huge cost, then what, next 10 mg? And so on....will be e500 per month.

I can take the hit of Wegovy and try it out. I've nothing to lose (metaphorically!).

Edited

But that's the point am making (for me). On 5 Mg, MJ, it's like am taking nothing.

I had a good dinner of chicken breast, potato, and salad, and the hunger pains are back, like it was before WLIs.

The supression when it works on MJ is fantastic. But it's just too expensive to chase. Have to be real here.

I switched, and had zero suppression or weight loss. Switched back to MJ and had to start from 2.5 and work my way up again.
it wasn’t worth the effort!

Thanks. I suppose am sort of saying I don't see MJ as worth it for me vs what it costs.

It's like am taking nothing. And I should be going up to 7.5 mg, but then in 4 weeks, I'll need to 10 mg, and so on. It's almost the same as my mortgage. Which seems insane.

Better to try/chance Weg I think. If MJ didn't really work, I've nothing to lose.

If you switch to wegovy don't start on any lower than 1mg. I switched from 10mg to 1.7mg and felt it was really strong suppression and satiety and I could stick to a calorie deficit and lost 3lbs with my first pen. Then 2 months later it wore off and my inflammation, bloating and severe ibs symptoms started. I'd not had them at all on mj. I was craving carbs and sugar throughout and had mild constipation until it wore off, but didn't have any of these on mj. Id gained 3lbs in water weight. I've since switched back to mj rather than go up and all symptoms gone and lost the 3lbs in 2 days and a further 2.6lbs in 2 weeks. It has helped to reduce my mj dose, 7.5mg now feels strong for me.
My friend moved from 5mg to 1mg but said it isn't doing anything for her and she has muscle pain returned and is bloated. My other friend switched from 10mg but went to 1mg and needed to go all the way to 2.4mg to feel any suppression. She has since lost weight, she had stalled on mj, and has hit her goal of 10st now having been on it 3 months now.

Hopefully Retatrutide will become available in the next year or so and will be more effective for you.

Is it a recent thing that your Mounjaro is not feeling effective? In my own experience it feels less effective if you are recovering from illness, premenstrual, tired, stressed etc. I would revisit your "pillars of health" and make sure you are sleeping well, exercising if possible, eating well etc.

Well, I have had flu. Am 90% better.

Really-this could be a reason for being less effective?

Ive just had my dinner, with extra chicken, and am ravenous. Stomach doesn't feel full. This was a big reason starting MJ, to get that fullness feeling. I just about cried the first time I felt full on MJ. Couldn't explain the new feeling. I just cant fill myself.

I think recovering from Flu could be the reason you are hungrier - especially if you went a few days without eating much. Your body is going to be fighting hard to get the nutrition it needs to recover so look after yourself with nutritious food, lots of sleep and perhaps a multi vitamin and see how you feel in a week or two. I wouldn't exercise for several weeks until you are fully recovered.

goldylock · 09/03/2026 11:38

Thanks. That would make sense.

I still have 2 doses on 5 mg, MJ.

I weighted myself this morning and I've now lost about 9 lbs in total so about 4/5 lbs in 2 weeks (been 2 weeks since I weighed myself as I'd given up).

Just miss the full feeling. And leading on from that, that am not craving food.

If you are Ireland based, you can get Mounjaro legitimately, using your GP script, from an NI pharmacy and it’s much cheaper than anywhere in Ireland. Another option is to use a service like my BMI which delivers to ROI.
If you switch from Mounjaro to Weygovy, you need a four week gap between one and the other, according to my GP. It will also take a few weeks to move up the Weygovy doses to reach max strength. I’m currently on MJ with another 10 pounds to lose and considering the switch to Weygovy for maintenance as it’s more cost effective.
If you work your way up the MJ doses and buy from NI pharmacy, a 15mg pen might last you 6 or 7 weeks if you can lose weight on 10mg. 15 mg in NI is £320 or from my BMI 390€ delivered.
ETA 9lbs since January is decent sustainable loss. WLI isn’t a magic bullet. You won’t lose 10 pounds fat in 2 weeks. When did you last lose 9lbs in 2 months?
