What do you do when you go on holiday?

I’m going away for 2 weeks, I suppose the only thing I will be able to do is inject before I go due to the need for refrigeration? (Long haul flight) but just wanted to check I wasn’t missing something!

I’m not worried about the weight loss, but I’ve found the jab has really settled my tummy (IBS) so I’m mostly worried about IBS flaring abroad with the change in diet and sudden stop in jabs!

You don’t need to refrigerate an in-use pen, it just needs to be kept under 30 degrees C. So just take the pen with you and inject as usual for the second week.

I've just carried on with the WLI as normal. No need to refrigerate with an open pen unless you're hitting very high temps.

Thanks both I didn’t realise that, I am going to a hot climate but I’m sure I can get it in the mini fridge soon enough. It’s a few months away so I will see how I am then.

I carried on as normal - just take the doctors letter with the medicine in case they want to check. You can usually download this from whichever provider you have. I have never actually been asked for it though.

You might also want to consider a wallet for your pen, needles and wipes etc. Have a look on Amazon and search "insulin travel case" for lots of examples of what I mean. These will also insulate your pen if there are times when it might be exposed to high temperatures for short periods.

Keep it in your hand luggage.

I personally let my MJ wear off a bit when I go on holiday so I can enjoy food a little more. Then take it when I get back.

Travelled quite a few times and just take my pen in my hand luggage. I have a pouch that will keep it cold using just water (Amazon for diabetic pens) that I use if in a tropical country. But mostly it is in the room fridge or in our cooler when we are driving/touring.

I don’t worry about my calorie intake when on holiday, with the reduced appetite I won’t overeat I just have small amounts of what I fancy. The only thing I can’t do is drink loads but that doesn’t bother me. I’d rather have one decent glass of wine and then switch to water.

Yeah I’m not worried about my calorie intake at all, due to the amount of walking and my general anxiety/IBS holidays don’t really cause me to put on weight. It’s mostly my IBS I am worried about, the change in diet usually impacts me enough as it is without messing around with the jab.
