BMI 27 with slightly “too high” cholesterol - anyone else get accepted for a weight loss jab with similar criteria?

Hello 👋🏻
I recently had a private “Health MOT” which concluded that I am in the 27 BMI bracket with a cholesterol level just above 5mmol/l which is classed as “too high” and wondered if a WLJ would be an option for me. Has anyone here been accepted on similar grounds? I’m not sure if it’s too much of a stretch to be considered and don’t want to go through questionnaires and make payments if I’ll just be rejected. I don’t want to waste anybody’s time.
Also, because this was done privately, it’s not on my medical record so how would I “prove” this to an online pharmacy? Do they only consider NHS records as proof or do they accept private documentation too?

I am wary of posting this as I know it can be a touchy subject and that a BMI of 27 is not considered high to some people. I do not mean to offend or upset anyone.
I’m fully aware that I could “eat less, move more” but sometimes it’s not that simple.

I haven’t even decided if a WLJ is the way to go for me, I just wanted to establish if it’s a possible option giving that I’m just scraping it with BMI and slightly high cholesterol. Anyone have similar criteria that got accepted?

Thank you if you made it to the end of my waffle! 🙏

Voy prescribe off licence to BMI 27 with no health issues ,following an online consultation

letshavetea · 17/01/2026 13:42

I started with a bmi of 27.8 (height 5 foot 7 weight 12 stone 10 lb). That was in October 2024 - I’m a very slow loser. I’m on antidepressants and Levothyroxine. No problem with being prescribed by Oushk. I’m currently at a bmi of 23.7 with 5lb to lose to get me down to a bmi of 23 and a weight of 10 and a half stone. I’ll then go onto maintenance, but won’t come off it as I know I’d regain and can’t face that ever again. I feel so much better! Other benefits have been that hip pain has gone. Cholesterol is still slightly raised but my pharmacist says that’ll be due to fat loss.

InstantRegret · 17/01/2026 13:49

@christmasbunny thank you, thats really interesting! I didn’t think that was allowed as such. Voy has been suggested a few times now but they seem quite pricey compared to others. Worth it if they’re good though I guess

@letshavetea wow amazing job 👏 Very similar starting stats to me. Did you use Mounjaro? Any side effects?

I am very similar to many of you. 12st10, 5ft 7, raised cholesterol and menopausal. Losing weight is so difficult- two steps forward, then one step back. But I’m based in Ireland. Any recommendations for an online Doctor / pharmacy that might prescribe?

letshavetea · 17/01/2026 16:00

@InstantRegret thank you! I’m very pleased. Yes, I’m on Mounjaro. I had some side effects at the start and occasionally when going up a dose (nausea, indigestion, constipation). I helped. These symptoms by following all trh guidance on what to eat (tiny amount of complex carbs, protein+++, full fat yogurt, seeds, nuts, pulses, lots of vegetables, salad and fruit). Having 2l plus of water each day helps.
I am currently on 10mg. I have gone up the doses by titrating very slowly (a month of gradually increasing to get to the full next dose). The pharmacists don’t recommend titrating like this, but it worked for me.

Thank you @Hotfirewood I shall look into Cloud Pharmacy 👍🏻
Any side effects for you?

No side effects. My BMI is already down to 26.6 after 3 weeks 👏

I’m moving up to 5mg for month 2

Nowdontmakeamess · 17/01/2026 16:32

You should be fine with most providers, just tick a box to say high cholesterol they don’t need proof of that, usually just photos of self & scales.

As you don’t have a massive amount to lose I’d recommend Wegovy. It’s cheaper and not as powerful, so less side effects.

I’ve responded really well at the starting dose of 0.25 - roughly 1lb/week which is ideal, any quicker can risk gallstones. Also means minimal side effects at such a low dose, which will hopefully mean weaning off will be easier too. I’ve found it really reduces my constant need to be munching on something, and definitely feel fuller quicker/longer.

It’s given me much more control & the space to make healthier choices. My weight has been up and down all my life, I’ve been super fit and skinny and know how to eat healthily/exercise but after kids, peri-menopause & a lot of stress it’s been impossible to lose weight. So glad to finally be making progress.

@irishmollie it really is difficult isn’t it! I’ve tried a VLCD and put the weight back on once I stopped it. I’ve tried calorie counting, upping my steps, hypnosis type thing. My problem is sugar cravings, I just cannot resist! I need something to shut out that noise! Not sure if Wegovy or Mounjaro is best for that though 🤷🏼‍♀️
Sorry I can’t answer your question but hopefully somebody who can may see this

When you take this do you have to be careful of what you eat ? Also did any of you get hair loss from it ? And did you regain easily after?

That’s good news that Wegovy is going well for you!
I keep making my mind up on one then getting swayed to the other 🤯 I’m not too worried about fast weight loss, just steady and maintainable. Like you, I need something that gives me control as I feel completely out of control at the moment! I need a reset and space to develop healthier eating habits which I can continue going forward 🙏

@RollOnSpring26 all good questions! From what I’ve been reading, the hair loss can be due to fast/extreme weight loss rather than the drugs themselves..but don’t quote me on that!
Hopefully somebody will come along soon that can answer these questions for you 🙂

Hmm not gonna lie, I feel a bit ropey! Started feeling nauseous yesterday evening and was aware of it all night, now today not sure I can eat anything 😕

supposed to be meeting friends for lunch today, my friend who has taken MJ thought I’d be fine for the first few days but this seems to have kicked in quickly

seeing the messages above I probably should have researched more between WG and MJ

@LittlePickleHead oh no! Sorry you’re feeling unwell with it 😕 I hope you start to feel better soon.
This is what I’m most concerned about which is why I haven’t taken the plunge yet! I’m scared!!

Just apply - I got it with bmi 27 and migraines with Oushk. You’re not wasting anyone’s time - they’re running a business!

MeridaBrave · 18/01/2026 20:29

I got with this. BMI 27 and high cholesterol 5.1!!

I also said I had PCOS (diagnosed years ago) but they never asked for evidence (I had consultants letter). Re: cholesterol they did own blood tests so it showed on that - I also had a blood test I had previously. Will depend on supplier. If you had evidence of the blood test result you should be ok.

I started with Shemed, who did own blood test. I later moved to Swift as Shemed wasn’t going to work for maintainance and they made a mess of the price rise thing.

Just thought an update might be helpful. The nausea subsided after a couple of days and I’ve just felt not that hungry. I’ve still enjoyed food when I’ve eaten it but have had no desire to snack and have struggled to think what a fancy to eat a few times. I’m enjoying the removal of the afternoon munchies. It’s just been easier to stick to my calorie intake without feeling ravenous by the end of the day. Second injection this morning, I am 6lbs down in a week (this could be mostly water weight). So I’m pretty happy I took the plunge!
