Indigestion/chest pain like symptoms?

Hi all,

Hope the Christmas period has gone well for you all?

I've been on MJ since August. Very gradually moving up the doses. I've had no major side effects up until about a month ago when I moved onto the 7.5mg pen - however I only began using 6mg first of all then 6.5. From 6.5mg onwards I've had more indigestion issues. Specifically a few times recently after eating particular foods. Eg, I had 1 sausage on wholemeal bread one lunchtime. It felt like the sausage was wedged inside me and was causing terrible pressure, chest pain like - I've been careful not to really have sausage since and to chew really well. Then a week later it was a chicken and hallumi wrap. I'd only eaten half of the wrap when I felt quite ill, and the same pressure again, like something was wedged inside me. Then on Christmas day, I had the same problem. This time I'd had a wholemeal bagel and some scrambled egg for breakfast - it's probably a larger breakfast than I'd normally have and a whole bagel is quite filling. But I was fine for maybe 2 or 3 hours after eating. Then all of a sudden I had that same pressure building up again - a strong feeling like some food was stuck and not moving down and it was making me feel really unwell and like I was going to be sick- the pressure is severe, it brings about worries of a heart attack. Each time, the only way I could get any of this chest pain feeling to go and feel even a little bit better was to make myself sick.... I was able to eventually get most of what was in my tummy up and once I'd done that the feeling subsided and I felt better.

I obviously don't want this to become a common occurance as I'd be lurching into bulimia territory, it was a needs must situation as I felt beyond dreadful and it was the only way to feel any better. I'm not sure if the higher dose is having a strong effect on me for some reason. I was fine up until 6.5mg, and I only ever move up when I'm starting to feel more hunger pangs coming back on a particular dose.

Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? Did they eventually subside? It kind of spoiled my Christmas day a bit as it started half an hour before Christmas dinner was due on the table - my husband had to take over in the kitchen. Another time the pain started when I was in work. So I'm being super careful now to eat only very small amounts for each meal, and it's not like I was eating large amounts before.....I've generally been very controlled, sticking to main meals only and keeping them on the smaller side eg. Only 1 slice of wholemeal bread for a sandwich if I would previously have had two, or if having rice with some chicken and veg, only a very small amount etc.

I'm really worried if this continues,.I might have to stop, which I don't want to do as my BMI is still over 30, though it's come down from 38 at its worst to 31, so it's been a gradual loss... and I want to keep losing.

Has anyone had the same experience? Does it subside?

It sounds to me like your dose is too high - could you come back down again?

MayTheFourth25 · 31/12/2025 16:10

Could it be gallstones? Does it happen more often after fatty foods e.g. you mention sausages and cheese?

pinktube · 31/12/2025 16:14

Sounds like GERD or reflux, have a google

since my weight loss, my reflux is so much better

Iloveeverycat · 31/12/2025 16:25

Could be gallstones which is common with rapid weight loss.

MrsMiagi · 01/01/2026 08:06

I'd get this checked out to be honest, it doesnt seem normal.

CuriousCatCat · 01/01/2026 08:22

I had this for a couple of years before my first gallstone attack. Linked to fattiness of food rather than amount.

TalulahJP · 01/01/2026 10:21

i get strong discomfort from my gallstones a bit like that. it’s agony. i only get it when i eat anything fatty and high calorie. no way i’d eat sausages or cheese.

chest pain needs checked out though so i’d reduce my dose down and stop eating fatty foods so the gallbladder duesnt have to work so hard. And call nhs24 if you get chest pain again.

Thanks for the comments. I hadn't thought of gallstones, I don't know much about it but will research it a bit and keep an eye out. I generally haven't ate many fatty foods while I've been on MJ, but this was just a few occasions, where I varied things up a little coming up to Christmas... though the scrambled eggs probably wasn't too fatty, but maybe I did put a little butter in the pan as it was Christmas day - I cant quite remember now.

I also think maybe the dose is a little high, so I've moved back down a bit this week to see if things are more settled.

Thank you.
