Mounjaro - how long to see effects

Hello,

I’ve had my first Mounjaro injection today.
Previouly been on Wegovy and gained 70% of the weight back within 6 months of stopping despite best efforts!

I can’t remember how long it took me to feel the Wegovy effect so I’d like to ask how long it took you to feel an effect with Mounjaro and how much you lost in the first week?

thank you ☺️

Well, I felt the effects of my first injection within a few hours, but I don't think that's usual or to be expected. I had very high appetite suppression from the first week. It takes around 8 to 72 hours for the medication to peak in your system, and then there's the issue of whether that level of medication is sufficient to have an effect on you. So it might take a couple of weeks or more.

I lost a lot of weight in the first week (9lbs!), due to the high suppression and my high starting weight which meant that I was in a large calorie deficit without having to try. Again, that isn't going to be the case for most people.

Thank you, I appreciate you sharing your experience.
I’m not sure why I’m asking because it will be what it will be but I like hearing the success stories haha

i recall feeling effects within 24 hours but not sure how much of that was mental and how much was physical.

Prelim · 11/12/2025 19:45

Took me about a year to notice the weight effects. Never had a great deal of appetite suppression.

RoundandSad · 11/12/2025 20:31

@Prelim a year!

I've been on it five weeks and I think I've lost 5lb. Do you know do you remember what you were like when you started?

Somethingsnapped · 11/12/2025 21:04

It had an instant effect on me (within hours). I took it at bedtime and woke up feeling nauseous a few hours later. The nausea didn't last long, but I couldn't face eating the next day. That side of things settled down, and I was able to eat eventually. I lost 5lbs the first week. I've been on it four months now, and I'm still on the lowest starting dose. I've lost over two stone.

I think on average it’s worked out just under a kilo a month, but I’ve had no weight loss for months now. I hadn’t been very careful with what I’ve been eating though! Today I had a large block of chocolate and crisps!

Prelim · 11/12/2025 21:06

and I know I’ve been drinking too much wine recently too - lots of Christmas parties!!

farfallarocks · 11/12/2025 21:30

A few hours! Also a super responder and could barely eat more than about 800 calories a day to be honest but no other side effects. I lost 25Kgs in 4 months!

ScubaSteven · 11/12/2025 22:11

Within a few hours - my suppression has been high. I’ve been on it 3 months and lost 3 stone, I struggle to eat more than 1000 Cals a day and I’ve never felt better. I’m on 5mg.

RoundandSad · 11/12/2025 23:02

@Prelim have you not dieted all this time?

WombTangClan · 11/12/2025 23:04

I'm 9 stone down in 18 months
suppressed appetite from the lowest dose but now on 15mg

SexyFrenchDepression · 11/12/2025 23:20

It was within hrs for me. I lost nearly 6lb in first week but struggled to get over 700/800 calories. Suppression has been there pretty much the whole time over last 6 weeks and I had lost 18lbs as at Tues. About 3 or 4lb to get to top of healthy BMI.

I could manage on abut 600 cals most days but I obviously make sure I eat more than that.

Tovetov · 11/12/2025 23:31

Immediate effect, first ever jab was at 6pm and didn't want my dinner an hour later.

Very mild nausea after each 2.5 jab, just for a couple of hours and drinking lots of water helps, no other side effects. Excellent appetite suppression which wears off slightly on day 6. I'll be taking my third jab tomorrow, lost 8lb in week one, weighing tomorrow morning but can feel I've lost a few pounds.

Gingercar · 11/12/2025 23:56

Still haven’t felt much different and I’m six months in now. But I have been eating very clean, unprocessed and healthy foods, and it seems to reinforce my willpower a bit. I’ve lost almost 4 stones so far. I lost 5lbs the first week and 3lbs the second week but that was mainly because I went from eating tons of choc and unhealthy foods to clean eating. It then slowed down to 2lbs a week for another month or so, and then down to 1lb a week further on. It’s never affected my ability to eat big meals and I’ve had to use A LOT of willpower.

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 12/12/2025 08:59

@Prelim that’s really unusual. Have you not been dieting?

Prelim · 12/12/2025 10:10

@Daisywhatsyouranswer I was, but I just have so many sweet cravings now, maybe because of low blood sugar? I’m still losing weight, but I know I’m eating the wrong things (whereas I used to eat very healthily before, just too much of it!).

Fatmumslim01 · 12/12/2025 12:02

A few hours after my first I'm injection I couldn't finish my dinner so fairly instant for me! That was almost 9 months ago and I'm 50 pounds down now!

TheChosenTwo · 12/12/2025 20:17

Took my first jab on a Saturday evening and I wasn’t hungry by lunchtime on the Sunday - the effects were very quick for me.
I had a high starting weight and lost 6lbs in week one, 5lbs in week two.
Have barely had alcohol as I haven’t fancied it (although had cut down booze massively in the year before I started taking MJ anyway), eat incredibly clean and lots of variety while still being able to enjoy things like chips from time to time, I just want a few these day rather than a whole portion.
I had insulin resistant PCOS so think I responded quickly because of that. Might just be making that up but it’s been absolutely
miraculous. Took me about 7 months to lose 6.5 stone and have now been maintaining (still on MJ) for the last 6 months.
