HELP ! I’m starving now on just 2.5mg

So, I lost all the weight I needed to and only got to 7.5 mg.
ive been on 5mg for a few months and maintained, so I dropped to 2.5 mg 2 weeks ago hoping to stay on this for the foreseeable future BUT ive been starving.
I mean real hunger. Should I just stick with it ( I haven’t put any weight on )
or go back up to 5mg and stay on that as my maintenance dose to get rid of the cravings ? Anyone else had similar experience ?

How is maintaining the diet changes going for you?

I find if I slip back to old habits and UPF/sugar/sweeteners/to many carbs start slipping in daily it drives the hunger again.

Example I have mentioned on a couple of threads recently so apologies if you read already, I found a box of unopened nearly out of date Crunchy Nut Cornflakes in the cupboard and had them with a chopped up banana a couple of mornings. Within a couple of hours I was starving. I usually have something like a couple of boiled eggs on toast or if busy even nothing, and I am usually ok until lunch, but after the sweet cornflakes I was clock watching until lunch.

It is so much harder this time of year too.

If it were me, I would go back to 5 for a month (especially to get through Christmas and New Year) and then if you want to reduce dose, maybe consider click counting to go down slower? I am on 3.75 which is a nice middle ground between 2.5 & 5 and doesn't mean a 50% drop. It's 45 clicks on a 5mg pen.

Yes, I really need to go back to basics and eat more protein. It’s so hard when I’m craving sweet things. But I have to remember, THATS what got me fat in the first place !

Great idea. As you say, it’ll get me past the Christmas period and an all inclusive holiday next week.

2,5 is just half a dose, the first full dose is 5mg, so the fact you got up to 7.5 it would make it unlikely half a dose is going to do much for you.

i got up to ten, been on 5mg for 7 or so months now maintaining and it has worked fine and im staying on this, i know 2.5 would be a waste of money and pointless, and i want the other therapeutic benefits, so id rather spend a few quid extra every week and have the drug work and benefit me, rather than save a few quid and have no therapeutic benefits.

i also tweak mine up now and again, ie big weekend away, lots of food and drink, I go up to 5.5 or so and just reduce any weight gain. I’m going to an all inclusive too for Xmas period and will stay on 5 for that, but likely nudge it up when I come back to drop any weight I may have gained, for me that’s the beauty of it. I’m no longer worried about weight gain, I can enjoy myself, stay on the clean and healthy when at home, and remove any weight gain fairly quickly.

I'd go to 5mg and maintain on that if you need to. No point dropping so low it doesn't work. I wish I could maintain on 5mg! I had to go to 15mg to lose it all and I'm currently maintaining on 12.5 and a bit too scared to drop further as I'm already feeling more hunger and food noise.

IsItSnowing · 06/12/2025 15:57

Personally, I'd go back to 5mg. Maintenance should be on the lower effective dose not necessarily the lowest dose.
You might find you can reduce again later on or not but I wouldn't risk undoing my progress.

I would go back up to 5mg, and then drop more slowly, even if it's a few clicks a week. Also think about what you are eating, e.g. high protein. Avoid UPFs

I haven't reached goal yet, I still have about 2.5kg to go, but I'm already starting to reduce the dose. I think my body has had a reset, and 6.75mg is working better than the 7.5mg I was on for 4 weeks, which makes no sense... Unless body has just readjusted to lower weight/needing less calories
