I’m plucking up the courage to start on Friday evening.. it’s in the fridge now but I’m scared of side effects derailing me as have a busy week at work. I swing between excitement & fear about starting. I’m terrified of putting something into me that could have adverse effects, just to lose weight. Any words of encouragement would be much appreciated!

Hi

i started a month ago… now 6 jabs in with no side effects 12lbs gone and the ok not concerns I gave are the nerves of waiting for my repeat orders to be processed and delivered.

everyone is different but I can honestly say no negatives so far.

nerves are entirely normal but most likely it will be fine.

I think most of us felt like that at the start. I personally started with Voy, who are a bit more expensive, because I wanted the backing of a good company if things went wrong. They didn’t. I haven’t had even a sniff of a side effect in six months. Just put a plan into place for eating good, sensible food- a lot of side effects seem to be linked to fatty or sugary food, which obviously aren’t the best for losing weight. Obviously some people who eat sensibly still get side effects, it’s just luck.

Fingers crossed that you’ll be fine. I haven’t read many posts on here from people who regret it.

80 percent of folks have no side effects and it’s just a half dose to start with, eat clean and healthy the day before and then after, it will be fine, very few people have any side effects that are of note on the first few injections.

I started in May this year after contemplating it from Nov! Wish I’d done it when I first considered it!!

4st 10lb down & 3st to go until target. It’s been life changing!

What have you got to lose!!

There is a minority of people who do have side effects but most of them are manageable overtime & don’t seem to prevent weight loss!

I’m sure there will be a Nov or dec starter thread! I’ve found the May one invaluable!

Good luck!!

I was very nervous when I started but am so glad I did. First jab was 18th January 2025. I felt a little icky but no diarrhoea or sickness. I’ve only climbed to 7.5mg and am happily still losing. Since Jan I have lost 5.5 stone. I’m now only classed as overweight - no longer obese!!! Probably want to lose 2 more stone. I would b happy staying on it long term with a maintenance jab. Go for it, my health has improved in lots of ways just by losing weight.

I'm at maintenance now after 8 months on Mounjaro . Lost 6 stone overall , 3 on Mounjaro. I didn't go higher than 5mg and had minimal side effects. It's just a huge relief not to think about food all the time. I don't even count calories I just eat my protein and veggies and whatever else I can manage. I was never a big drinker but I've had 2 glasses of wine since I started. Just don't feel like it. Give it a go OP. You'll be on the very lowest dose so nothing bad will happen. You have everything to gain.

It’s not just to lose weight as if it’s a vanity thing or a cosmetic choice. If you’ve been prescribed it, it’s because you’re obese or you are overweight with a weight related health issue. So it’s for the overall benefit of your health.

It was a bit of an anticlimax after I’d done my first injection. Essentially nothing happens straightaway. Then I gradually realised that I had no interest in snacking, no interest in eating large amounts of food and no constant thinking about what I could/should/would eat. It was a very amazing revelation. It was a huge relief as a PP has said.

You can always stop after one injection if you want, it will be mostly out of your system in a week.

I had a mild stomach upset the week before I started Mounjaro - nothing serious, but I felt mildly unwell at work to the extent that I went out and bought as bagel for lunch because I was craving carbs to settle my stomach. If I'd started the injections a week earlier, I would have assumed that this was a side effect rather than an illness. Buy as it happens, I haven't really had any sudden effects - I find alcohol tastes unpleasantly strong, and I'm more prone to mild constipation, and I find it slightly harder to swallow tablets. And that's it.

I also have fewer headaches, virtually no joint paint and far less digestive discomfort than I did before taking the drugs. When people say that they will be on the drugs forever, it's partly about keeping the weight off, but also about the improvement in other health problems.
