Stopping mounjaro; what else can I use to slow gastric emptying?

I've been on mounjaro for a year and have pretty much reached goal weight. I'm ready to stop - and certainly ready to stop paying.

But - one of the main benefits of mounjaro for me has been slowing down my digestion. For years I thought I had IBS - loose stools, rushing to the toilet after meals etc. This all stopped with the first dose of mounjaro but is now returning as I reduce the dose. It's really annoying, uncomfortable and I think messes with my blood sugar too.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Does anyone know what I could do or take to achieve the same effect?

Presuming you have done the elimination of various foods ?

Mysticmaiden · 14/11/2025 14:42

I have diagnosed ibs since 27 and I'm.now 43, mounjaro completely resolved my ibs symptoms but I did get some with a severe stress situation recently. I do have to avoid gluten, soya and dairy to reduce symptoms through diet.
Berberine suppresses appetite and lowers blood sugar. I've taken it on more hungry snacky days and it always helps curb it. I take a liquid form from amazon. I don't take it on high suppression days.

OP I was hoping someone would come along with some life changing advice, as I could have written the same.

i have IBS symptoms which then leads
to a feeling of low blood sugar- once I have …been. I have eliminated every food one by one and monjouro has made
me able to drink coffee. Eat lettuce and cheese - without an issue that I had before.. my diet
to be much more balanced and healthy. I want to have the same control - even if weight loss isn’t included!!

It's amazing isn't it. For the first time in years I have been able to eat certain foods I couldn't eat before without having an upset stomach or getting painfully bloated. It's so much nicer to be able to eat quality bread and pasta instead of horrible processed and inedible gluten free alternatives.

I hope someone has a solution, but I would think not, else we would have all been taking it before

Chia seeds in yoghurt?

Underful · 15/11/2025 15:57

Thanks everyone. @PurpleCoo and @BatshitAlso I'm glad to know it's not just me. I have tried so many things over the years - I definitely can't tolerate gluten but seem to be OK with dairy. Berberine is a good idea for the low blood sugar/snacky feeling. Chia seeds don't seem to work, although that's reminded me that I did have some success with psyllium husks, which seem to bulk things up and slow everything down. I will keep researching and see if I can find anything else. I will report back! It sounds like it would be a good IBS cure in some cases - if only the NHS would fund it....

Can you share the details berberine you take?
I've been on MJ 2.5 months, took 2nd dose of 5mg 2 days ago and I've been having a snacking/hunger feeling.
I really don't want to rush up the doses

https://amzn.eu/d/aSIhx7h I use this one but there are similar ones with identical ingredients, one of which is 7.99 currently so I would shop around. Just type in liquid berberine in the search and read the reviews.

Do you take it every day?
How long have you been using it?

Been using it a good few months. No because I'm still using mounjaro 7.5mg, so I use it on lower suppression days when cravings kick in inbetween meals and it curbs them within 10-15 mins, rumbling tummy just vanishes.
It lowers blood sugar and suppresses appetite so if you're using WLI, you have to be careful as could end up dizzy if take it daily, which is what I discovered early on. I take it under the tongue as its better absorbed there than in tummy.

Thanks for the advice.

I think I'll give it ago for the same reasons that you're taking it... just want to calm the urge to snack - not actual hunger.

I've been on 5mg for 3 weeks now and I don't want to increase my dose yet.

Have a look at this product. You can read the reviews on amazon. Has really helped my ibs. I noticed the difference after just four days.
