This is my second time on mounjaro - I have only ever gone up to 5mg .. I know its sounds bad but I still eat , even though I am not hungry - I have depression and use food as a comfort.

If you are on the mounjaro , how did you loose weight ?
Did you follow a specific diet ?
Exercise ? Fast?
And how much weight have you lost ? Thank u in advanced

Had great motivation, I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes, insulin and metformin wasn’t working and the diabetes nurse was a straight talking woman who told me I needed to get my sugars under control or in a few years I’d be dead, blind or missing my feet.

  • calculated TDEE, deducted 500 and that was my calorie allowance daily
  • cut out all carbs except non-starchy veg
  • increased protein, fat and fibre. I keep my diet very simple, basically meat and 2 veg style meals, lunch is generally slow cooker batch cooked stuff like casserole, shredded chicken breast. I take 400g of some kind of meat, add lots of mushrooms, peppers, onions, sometimes carrots or tinned tomatoes, some seasoning and then leave it to cook all day. That makes 4 portions at about 250 calories per portion. Dinner will be whatever DH and DD are having with the carb switched out for a steam fresh microwave pack, or roasted broccoli, or stir fried green beans, asparagus and sugar snap peas and so on.
  • loads of water, at least 2 lts a day
  • added in exercise - swimming, brisk walk, gym

I started MJ in Sept 2024, have lost 82lbs since then, had lost some before too so total of 136lbs down from highest weight (9st 9.5lb). Gone from morbidly obese to BMI 21 which is firmly in the healthy range.

never gone higher than 10mg.

4 weeks 2.5mg
20 weeks 5mg
4 weeks 7.5mg
10mg indefinitely.

no plans to reduce or stop, I’m maintaining on 10mg and blood sugars are perfect.

It was a mix of cal counting and low carb , with limited alcohol and working out. I also ensured I ate my protein, 1g per kg of body weight, to ensure I lost fat and not muscle. I lost six and a half stone and been maintaining in 5mg for the last 6 or 7 months now.

is your depression under control, are you on medication for it? I would maybe try to get that sorted, in addition 5mg is the lowest therapeutic dose. How long were you on it for?

edit, also 3 litres of water a day, it’s critical to drink water and my max dose was 10 mg,

How long have you been on it? Why haven’t you gone about 5mg?

Pigeonenglish · 11/11/2025 06:57

I followed a specific and quite restrictive diet. I had to, otherwise I wasn’t confident I’d be able to lose much weight.

I have just cut out snacks and eaten smaller meals. MJ has enabled me to do that, I was a terrible snacker. I swim 2/3 times a week. I haven’t drunk any more water, just a couple of glasses a day, plus coffee and one Diet Coke. I have upped protein. Lost 63 pounds so far. Not gone higher than 7.5 mg in a year.

Maybe see your GP about the depression if you haven’t already done so. Also, you may need to move up the MJ doses, everyone is different in how they respond to dosages.

For the first 6 months I got away with just eating less. I relied on MJ to just do it for me really. After that my weight loss slowed to nothing so now I calorie count.
Worked out my TDEE, took off 500 calories. Then added calories for 10,000 steps a day. I had to start the walking because even on MJ I can't manage on 1000 calories a day. The walking puts me on 1400.
But anyway, there came a point where without carefully weighing and measuring I wasn't losing any weight. I'm not back on track and losing again.

Worked out my tdee. Stuck mostly to my calories to lose weight. I found I couldn’t eat with not hungry, which was like a miracle for me. I lost 3.5 stone. It sounds like you need to increase your dose to stop feeling hungry and work out your tdee.
