Don’t know what to do- side effects again- do I stop ?

I’ve been on MJ on and off since May 24.

my first bout of severe side effects happened in June 24. I was very sick, bad stomach ache and in bed for a couple of days.

I came off it and had my stomach aches investigated. Ultrasound, MRI etc and they found I’m all good to continue.

I started again in September / October 24 and have been on it ever since. In that time I’ve had another 4 episodes like this. The first was in September when I restarted. Then I was absolutely fine until this year September where I had an episode like this and I’ve just had it happen again. It’s always around 1 day after the injection and it’s horrendous.

I barely eat 1-2 days after the injection because I don’t want to aggregate it. Alas, whatever I did this week, aggravated it and I was in a lot of pain ( upper stomach all the way around and also back ). Lots of nausea. I didn’t sleep all night and the only thing that made it better was lying on my left side and time. I had some diarrhoea too. But managed not to actually throw up this time, but nearly did.

anyway I’m down from 100 kg to 80 kg. But I need to get down to around 65-70 kg.

I don’t think I can do this anymore but I’m so scared to regain and to never get to my goal. I was trying so hard before and nothing worked. My losses on MJ are also painfully slow. I’m always stalling and lose maybe 1 kg a month at the moment. I don’t eat a lot and count calories and I’m very active on top of that, but it’s an absolute slog- with the help of MJ but without MJ I am afraid it’s going to be impossible.

I am worried that if my stomach keeps going like this, one day something serious will happen and it won’t resolve.

I am on 8 mg at the moment. The highest I went up to was 10 mg, but I came down as I was constipated on that dose.
any advice appreciated.

Sorry I’d just stop. I’ve had some bad effects with MJ and have chosen to stay on it but not extended bouts of pain.

Spend the money on a personal trainer? Building muscle increases your calorie burn so much and feels great.

It sounds like you’re dehydrated and not getting enough fibre. Constipation and stomach cramps are core symptoms of both, and with a slowed digestion and less food intake you will poo less, so you need to make sure you’re helping your digestion as much as possible.

I’m definitely not getting enough fibre and I don’t drink enough water most of the time. I try but somehow can’t. The constipation has resolved though since I moved down to 8 mg and I found the suppression really good too. I lose slowly anyway so it didn’t make much difference. I also exercise a lot so I think I don’t drop weight that fast because of that.

but yeah I have constant headaches. It’s unbearable. My stomach has resolved now but I’m still in agony because of my head. I just feel so crap.

Sounds to me like you’re not eating right, not drinking enough water and on too high a dose. I’d drop down to 5mg, manage your diet and drink 3 litres of water a day. If you can’t do that, on diet and water, I would stop.

i think I will. I’ll just focus on protein and I won’t have to worry about getting sick. Because now I’m worrying about what I eat all the time.

I have done it before ! I just need to get in the right mindset. And it’s not like the weight was falling off me at any point. It’s more of a decomposition thing for me anyway at this point.

I get why you’d say that but I didn’t have issues for a year and now it’s come back. On a lower dose too. It just doesn’t make any sense why I didn’t have issues for a year.

You have had 4 episodes in the last year op

so you haven’t been a year free of side effects

Ok I’m not sure you’re managing this correctly, so I would just stop op.

I am honest with myself about my diet, thanks… otherwise I wouldn’t have lost all this weight. It’s 7 am, I’m just giving you a rough snapshot. I weigh it all out and use ChatGPT to help me as well as my fitness pal.

I’m talking about you saying that when you’re off it… you eat same food but bigger portions.

That is a very healthy diet. And I’m surprised you are overweight if just bigger portions of salad and soup

No I had some episodes last summer 2024 - and then September 2024 again.

then I didn’t have any other episodes until September 2025.

sorry if that was unclear, but that’s how it is/ how it’s been.

I’m afraid I agree op, and I also don’t understand how you’re losing weight slowly if you barely eat as you say. It doesn’t add up,

to me it looks like you don’t manage your diet carefully and you are dehydrated, and this is causing you the issues. However, I think you need to stop the medication as you will cause yourself harm. You either commit to do it right, or stop.

Overdonecabbage · 02/11/2025 08:54

So since October 2024 you haven’t had “4 episodes”?

ehatto · 02/11/2025 08:55

@Overdonecabbageyou can definitely over eat healthy food. I also stated I was struggling losing after my last pregnancy. That’s why I was overweight in the first place. I was never really over weight before having kids / pregnancies. I just gained a shit load and then found it hard to get it off and yes also slipped into some bad habits during the baby phase.

No, I had two. One last month and one now.

Ok op
you are massively overeating soup and salad but you don’t have crisps, chocolate, junk ever.

Overdonecabbage · 02/11/2025 08:56

Anyway you’ve said you’re coming off it
so…. That’s that?

ehatto · 02/11/2025 08:57

@Rumpledandcrumpledsome bodies just don’t shed weight very fast. Add in exercise and strength training in particular. I have quite a lot of muscle mass. But I’ve always been a slow loser unfortunately.

Op, no one has different biology l no one is a medical Marvel. If you consume less than your expend then you burn fat or muscle to make up the difference thus making our bodies lighter,

and it is incredibly difficult to build muscle in a deficit. And muscle is active, it burns cals.

You won’t like this OP
but it’s reality

ehatto · 02/11/2025 09:01

I just don’t lose weight fast, especially if I’m exercising too. What do you want to prove here ? That I’m just stuffing my face with chocolate and that’s why I am fat and also why I get sick on MJ ? That’s what you’re saying essentially.

whatever, I know how it is in reality and it is very strange. I had a long period of not having this issue and now it’s returned and I haven’t changed anything, in fact I have been even more careful about how I eat. So I don’t get it. Maybe I’ve become more sensitive to it or something.

these comments trying to catch me out for lying are so unhelpful.

@ehatto You said you were sick on Ozempic too? Wegovy and Ozempic are essentially the same thing, it's the same drug. Although if you were only sick once, was that actually due to the drug or were you just ill?

They are different drugs. Like paracetamol and ibruprofen. Both painkillers but different drugs.

No they're not. Wegovy and Mounjaro are different drugs with the same effect. Wegovy and Ozempic contain the same active ingredient (semaglutide). Mounjaro is tirzepatide.

Op. I don’t think you’re understanding the feedback

you are not barely eating if you’re slowly losing weight, you’re eating just under maintenance.

you are dehydrated and not consuming enough water, which is deeply problematic

you sometimes eat the wrong things, which with the dehydration is causing you gastro issues.

you did not become obese on soup and salad, it is by consuming too much, whatever those foods were.

FoxRedPuppy · 02/11/2025 09:18

Anyone can lose weight fast, there isn’t a biological imperative to slow weight loss. You won’t build muscle in a deficit and building muscle increases your metabolism not slows.

I think dehydration is quite key here, have you tried electrolytes in water to help hydrate you? Dehydration can slow weight loss and contribute towards nausea.

If you are eating as you’re said and have only lost 20kg in a year, then you need to go to GP, as that is worrying. I would suggest getting them to look at thyroid.
