I'm sure others will be along with more knowledge but I'd go my GP and get bloods done. If they can't suggest anything obvious from that, I'd see a dermatologist with a speciality in hair loss.

I’ve lost loads of hair too. Currently trying rosemary oil massaged into the scalp. It’s supposed to take 3 months to show a difference in terms of hair growing back, but I think it also makes each strand look thicker, which is helping in the meantime (only started a couple of weeks ago).

Loads of people swear by collagen, so I’ve ordered some of that too.

There’s also minoxidil, either topical or in tablet form. I haven’t tried it but it is the only researched/peer reviewed medication that works. I’m just a bit reluctant to introduce another prescription medication on top of MJ. I’m tapering down now and aiming to come off weight loss jabs after Christmas. If my hair doesn’t improve after a) my weight has been stable for 6 months and b) I’ve been off the jabs for 3-4 months, then I’ll give minoxidil a try.

Loss of hair can be a side effect of WLI. It says so on the leaflet!
Stop taking it. It’s as easy as that. If you’ve been using it that long then you should be able to carry on regulating your own calorie intake.

WLI do not give people a magical ability to manage their weight, you have to take them.

As far as I understand it, hair loss on mounjaro is thought to be due to deficiencies when people aren't eating a good diet or loose weight very rapidly, which is why the OP should start with getting her bloods done

I’m not on WLI, but my hair has started to get thinner (as in less hair rather than finer individual hairs) as I’ve got older. I’ve found using a red light machine on it has helped - when I spoke to a dermatologist specialising in hair (about something else) she did say red light has been shown to help with female pattern hair loss. You can buy specific head ones, but I had one already for my skin so use that one and it definitely helps me. You do have to do it regularly though - I spend 10-20 minutes with it on my head most nights. Hope you find something that helps you.

It says on the leaflet its a side effect so it may be there isn't a lot you can do whilst still taking it. However it may sort itself out over time. My hair loss has been awful but i no longer have high cholesterol or prediabetes so it was a trade off i have accepted

I’m on mj and have had a lot of hair loss. From what I’ve read, I think it’s losing weight quickly that doesn’t it, not the drug. I’ve been taking iron supplements and it has slowed down a bit (but I’ve also slowed the weight loss so I don’t know which has made the difference).

lovemyflipflops · 01/11/2025 12:24

I would lower your dose of WLI's if you can ?

Lovetocook49 · 01/11/2025 12:30

It’s usually not the jab itself that makes hair fall out — it’s what’s happening in your body because of the weight loss.

When you lose weight quickly, your body treats it a bit like a shock. Energy gets rerouted to essential functions, and things like hair growth get put on pause.

Add in fewer calories, less protein, or missing nutrients like zinc, iron, or biotin, and the hair follicles can get a little starved too.

As someone else said if they are using the jabs because of lots of other potentially life limiting conditions then its a temporary trade off , if using for vanity, as I know loads are , then it should be a valuable lesson !

I've also got bald sides on my head and I've only lost 1lb a week average. Even when I started I only lost 5lbs in the first 5 weeks. I was prediabetic and I've been hitting protein goals 1-1.8g per kg esp last 6 months or so and still losing hair, I take strong liquid vitamins and iron and collagen and biotin. Still a lot more hair loss 10 months on daily and I've been anaemic since 18 and not lost hair until MJ. I do think it's due to low cal intake because I'm short and have an office job and perimenopausal and prediabetic so can't eat much to lose. I'm a few lbs from maintenance at my goal of 9st so hoping it will improve then. I do just think it's a side effect that some get, like some get constipation and sulphur burps which I've never had.

Thank you, I've got one so I'll give it a go x
