Getting the right amount of protein

How do you know how much protein to eat?
Are you eating the RDA for your current weight or your goal weight?
I’m worried about losing muscle and still want to be able to work out.

Most use the RDA for protein, which is about 0.8g per kg of body weight. If you exercise or want to preserve muscle mass while losing fat you may want to eat a little more or around 1.2-1.6g per kg. Just think about your current weight, not your goal weight... this is what you need to focus on to ensure there is enough fuel for your muscles.

Distribute protein intake over the day, with foods such as lean meat, fish, eggs, dairy and beans or tofu. Additionally, add in some resistance training (even if light weights or bodyweight) to help with muscle preservation while exercising and losing weight.

Finally, consistency is key! Regular protein intake and exercise makes it so much easier to keep or maintain muscle and strength.

Agreed! Was just wondering about target amounts when trying to lose weight. Thanks for the info. Very helpful.
