Have you changed WHAT you eat on Mounjaro?

2 weeks in, eating much less but am more and more turned off by anything rich, smelly, greasy. Feel more like I want to eat fresh things. This is obviously a good thing but not expected! Has anyone here completely changed what they eat as well as amounts? How did you manage this? And when you come off has it stuck?

Absolutely has changed how I eat.

Before Mounjaro so many of my meals centered around carbs - loved bowls of pasta and rice with something tasty/creamy/spicy on top, or UPF foods. Now it is simple proteins and lots of veg/salads and minimal carbs - I am not a great cook still but happy with a chicken breast roasted/air fried/on a kebab with some seasoning/spices/basic marinade. I can probably count on two hands how many times I've had a small portion of pasta in the last 16 months on Mounjaro, just don't fancy it anymore.

I used to drink 5-6 cans of Pepsi Max a day. The stuff tastes awful now, even with vodka added 🤣. I've tried it a few times and just didn't enjoy at all. If I go out I ask for tap water, or sometimes an apple juice.

I stopped craving sugar and sweeteners (which I think were also partly responsible for those cravings). I rarely eat biscuits, chocolate, etc at home now because I don't crave or feel I need it. But I can still enjoy a cake/dessert when out or occasional home baking, but no UPF sweet treats/bars etc at home.

I have started eating and enjoying more fish, including smoked mackerel, which I would never have touched before and batch cooking more soup (even through summer!)

I have continued to have a weekly takeaway as a social thing - usually Chinese or Indian but choices are different and/or portions smaller.

What I did notice (and as a heads up for others) is Christmas when I socially ate more treats/sweets/snacks, I could mindlessly eat them no problem and the cravings slowly started coming back. It took most of January once I got back into a routine to get back to "new normal" levels of food noise again. But with patience it did get back to normal eventually without increasing MJ dose.

I don’t eat processed foods anyway. I’m just starting with the jabs so wondering how this is going to work. Presumably it will just make me eat less.

Many people dint eat processed foods, myself included. It’s not about type of food it’s about cals you consume, which if obese means it’s far too many. This thread is about tastes changing.

Absolutely. I no longer want crisps, which I’ve been addicted to my whole life.
I prefer fresh , healthy foods now. Heavy carbs and fatty foods don’t sit well in my stomach and I no longer fancy them- the thought makes me feel faintly sick.

im 6 Months on MJ. I hope this change lasts when I stop , it’s a much better way to eat!

also, I rarely fancy alcohol - but when I do I have a glass of white wine… I’ve always hated white wine. It’s odd how much my tastes have changed.

Interesting to hear this doesn’t seem uncommon- wonder what the reason is?

has anyone had this change and maintained it after coming off the drug?

I think it’s something to do with blood sugar and insulin being controlled and working optimally. No idea, and I mean on the food, not for booze, but foods taste naturally sweeter to me now, and also as my blood sugar is controlled I no longer have peaks and crashes, which means I don’t crave stuff.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/10/2025 21:24

Completely. Have lost 5 stone since May and anything creamy, rich or fatty turns my stomach. I could live on chicken and rice (with various flavours) or ham sandwiches! And all the fruit and veg.

Whichusernamenow415 · 24/10/2025 21:31

Nope sadly still a sugar junkie. I couldn’t eat chocolate for about the first month. Then I got a taste for dark chocolate as it wasn’t so sweet and then I found my way back to dairy milk. On the days I don’t fancy anything I can still manage a couple of squares of that.

I struggle most with eating too quickly or too much. I’ve learned to leave about half what’s on my plate now as otherwise I feel unwell.

Down 2.5st since April and now maintaining.

My tastes have not changed nearly as much as most people on here. I’m six months in and I can eat pretty much any food without side effects. Hangovers are much worse though and I don’t really drink now unless I’m out for a meal. I wasn’t a huge drinker before.

I had already started reading a lot about UPFs pre MJ and had gone off most cereals and shop bought bread anyway. I still like crisps and chocolate but I don’t crave them. I have a snack size crunchie most evenings but I don’t eat crisps unless I’m at a social event and they are open then I’ll have one or two before consciously stopping. Crisps were my real binge / problem food pre MJ. My base diet has always been pretty healthy and we cook from scratch. MJ stops my urge to binge and eat my feelings.

I’ve found myself just not wanting to eat, I know I need to, so I wait til I know what I fancy, it’s often chicken or a soup I make which is a bunch of mixed chopped frozen veg, chicken, onions, garlic, coconut milk and stock, that often keeps me filled up from brunch til dinner time. I’ve also found at dinner time I eat less than half of normal amounts - I wish it would put me off wine though!!! 😵
I’m due to be weighed in 1.5 weeks time which will be 8 weeks, lost 5.5kg in the first 4 weeks, currently feel fat though so hoping it’s just in my head and I’ve still lost, I don’t care if it’s just a few kg, as long as it’s going ⬇️

Kazzaa46 · 25/10/2025 21:38

I’ve never overeaten savoury food, it was always sweet treats that that have led to me being overweight.
That said I naturally want healthier options for meals. I haven’t stopped myself having any particular food, although pastry and stodgy food I have no desire for but I’ve had times when I’ve had a roast dinner or lamb chops but just ate less.

What I have no desire for is sweet stuff. In 7 weeks I’ve only had sweet stuff once and that was only 2 squares of chocolate.

Iwanttoliveinagardencentre · 26/10/2025 02:42

There is nothing I like which I have stopped eating altogether but I don’t crave crisps and chocolate even a tiny bit as much as I used to.

I would still say I eat chocolate a couple of times a week but I used to eat it several times a day.

Crisps I eat occasionally.

I don’t follow a so called healthy diet, I just eat smaller amounts of what I have always eaten.

Regarding the current fixation on protein, I’m old enough to remember the F plan and various other theories which were latest the big thing in diet so I take it with a pinch of salt (!) and would never work out how much I was or wasn’t eating daily.
I think it too will fall out of fashion and wonder about the affect on people’s kidneys.

MrsM2025 · 26/10/2025 06:33

Yes - I cut out carbs / sugar
I also took the opportunity to cut my alcohol / caffeine intake and actually drink water instead of Pepsi max!!
I was completely addicted to crisps and haven’t had any since August - well a couple of weeks ago I had 10 Thai chilli flavour and they made me feel so ill!
Started in August- just over 3 stone down - maybe 1 to go, am on 5 mg
