Suppression & side effects moving 5mg to 7.5mg mounjaro

Id love some advice if possible please. Ive been on mounjaro since may and have moved very slowly on doses. I was plateau-ing on 5mg after 15wks on it so moved to 7.5mg on sat and the suppression and side effects are horrible. I've barely been able to eat since taking it, stomach very upset.

I barely had any side effects on 5mg and was losing 1lb a week at most.

Did anyone suffer the same?

Thanks in advance

Yes, I did.. I could barely eat anything and felt absolutely miserable. On the one month I was on it though I did lose about 8kg! But I felt I was dangerously undereating.

No advice on what to do next unfortunately, as I went back down to 5mg and have stayed there since. I am definitely plateu-ing now and am considering going back up to 7.5, but am scared to as I felt so awful using it.

If 7.5mg is giving you unpleasant side effects you have two choices, ride it out until you body adapts or move back down. Once you have stablised back on 5mg (it will take a couple of weeks for levels to level out again) have a think what you want to do next. Potentially you could try something in-between 5mg and 7.5mg, but give it time to level out for 2-3 weeks to see it's true effect before adjusting again or you not know which doses is actually working for you.

Depending on your current weight 1lb a week is not insignificant, Mounjaro is ideally not for short term weight loss, it is a treatment for obesity, and all the 1lbs add up over time.

How were you on 5mg? Were you staying in decent calorie deficit, doing the basics of a high protein diet (with protein at every meal), fiber, whole foods, minimal UPF, sugar/sweeteners, reduced carbs, plenty of water? Why did you choose to move to 7.5mg, was it because you needed suppression and it was no longer there?

Many people lose suppression at some point in their journey but still have the more subtle effects of Mounjaro which if you work with it helps reduce craving and food noise, helps portion control all of which helps us keep to that calorie deficit.

You could potentially try taking 3.75 every 3.5 days so it's more even over the week and not such a big peak of medication in your system at once.

Thank you for replying. It's nice to hear in a way someone else has been through this and I'm not imagining it. I'm not sure i can cope with a 2nd injection and these feelings.

I know what you mean about feeling like you're undereating. It doesn't feel right does it

Thank you for your reply and advice. I was keeping within my calories, lots of water, hardly any alcohol, high protein diet. But I had no side effects like when on 2.5mg, the first 24hrs were hard, being on 5mg felt much easier. Headaches had cleared (sugar eliminating from diet?)

I want to eat but thought of everything makes me sick and if I can put something in my mouth I can't eat much.

I've seen social media posts about not doing 60 clicks on a pen so bringing dose down slightly, maybe i should try 6.25mg?

Thank you for your reply. I might think about this if I can source more needles.

7.5 was horrid for me. That was the worst move. Moving to 10 and 12.5 a doddle in comparison. I had all the side effects and none of the losses on 7.5.

Overtheatlantic · 21/10/2025 18:54

I had an awful time on 7.5. I couldn’t actually eat. I went down to 6.25 which has been perfect. You don’t necessarily have to go back to 5.

Mounjarogirl25 · 21/10/2025 19:29

I have tried twice to move up to 7.5, both times have been vomiting around 24 hours after taking my second dose. Absolutely fine on 5, barely any side effects so moved back down. I am still losing on 5 but slower than I would like. Might try moving up to 6 or 6.25 before going back up to 7.5 (when I feel brave enough to try again)

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 21/10/2025 20:28

I have found it a bit of a leap. Never had any side effects before, really, but I am on week 3 of 7.5mg and feeling pretty sick a lot of the time. Eating does help, but I don't want to eat very much. I am eating small portions of protein (roast chicken, in particular) and a handful of salad. The closest I have come to actually being sick was trying some utterly gopping chocolate 'protein' mousse, after listening to bloody Internet 'experts' (aka middle aged women like me, with no medical training, who can Google with confidence) saying I should increase my protein intake. It was the most disgusting thing I have put in my mouth for a very long time. I had one teaspoon of it yesterday and can still taste it today. Beyond foul.

Anyway. Good luck, OP. Try a lower dose perhaps.

PurpleCoo · 21/10/2025 21:37

I have always gone up in smaller increments. I was on 6.25mg for 10 weeks, and felt like I needed to move up as my loss has slowed right down and I have been eating slightly more. I did a little extra this week, around 6.8mg because it's what was left in the pen and actually it's making me thing I will stick at around 55 clicks. No problems, but it feels like the Goldilocks dose (not too much, not too little)

I've plateud at 5mg after being there for around 10wks now. I've stepped up to 6.25mg rather than straight to 7.5mg and found side effects minimal. I did the same between 2.5-5mg doing 6wks at 3.75mg and it worked a treat.

Branleuse · 22/10/2025 21:34

Im on 2nd pen of 7.5mg First 3 weekd on 7.5mg i had a lot of gastro upset, and was considering going back to 5mg, but week 4 was not as bad. I only had one day where my tummy felt off, which is manageable for me
