Hairloss: Mounjaro/advice ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Hi, I have lost what I feel like is a sensible amount of weight on Mounjaro: about 22lb/10kg since May and I havenโ€™t gone beyond 2.5mg dose.

In feel like I have ate well but just reduced the volume of food I ate previously. Prior to taking Mounjaro I also ate well, but had more of a sweet tooth.

I thought if I went really slow I might avoid the dreaded hair loss but I am in full blown shed. Nearly worse than postpartum. I got my bloods done and I am low in the usual suspects: Iron (ferritin), zinc, vitamin D, B-vitamins (B6, folate, B12), selenium, HDL cholesterol, thyroid antibodies (positive โ€“ monitor).

Would love to hear anyone who is in a similar situation, how youโ€™re managing and any good supplements youโ€™re taking. Iโ€™m going to really focus on improving the quality of my food over the next few months. I donโ€™t have much more weight to lose (c. 3kg).

Not to be rude but just looking for tips on the above, and general support: Iโ€™d rather not have feedback on if I should or shouldnโ€™t be on Mounjaro. Things are sensitive enough at the moment! Thank you ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

I have collagen daily and have started biotin, pumpkin seed oil capsules with saw palmetto and a jhmust purchased a hair care range for hairloss. Haven't seen a difference yet aa its warly days but hoping it helps because my hairloss has been horrendous and it's only because I had so much weight to lose that I didnt stop mounjaro. (Will be 5 stones loss when I get to goal).
It is a listed side effect unfortunately but hopefully it's not permanent

My hair has gone all thin and shit. I've been on it for a year. My hairdresser said that I have lots of baby hair so it appears to be growing back. I am on the highest dose and know I am not eating enough or having a variety of vitamins.

MeridaBrave · 11/10/2025 21:39

What do you eat in a typical day? maybe could improve diet?

re: supplements I take, omega 3, vit D, collagen, magnesium and creatine. Taken all these for ages (eg years).

Lost 12kg since July and pretty much as goal. Hair is fine. Bloods all fine.

I focus on eating over 120g protein each day.

Breakfast: 0% fat Greek yoghurt (300g) 5g chia seeds (soaked) and 75g berries

Midmorning: apple

Lunch: Massive green salad with tin tuna and olive oil dressing

Mid afternoon: protein shake

Dinner: chicken breast stir fry with loads veg eg cauliflower / broccoli / carrots / mishrooms

Treat: 2 squares 85%lindt and or mini twister

Vitamin d and b12 deficiencies will contribute to hair loss even without your weight loss. I'd focus on taking advice from doctor on how to improve your results and then also consider something like L'Orรฉal s new hair loss range. It has DHT blockers so it's designed to help prevent hair loss at the scalp.
Ultimately though, unfortunately our bodies just do go into shock from big weight losses so until we settle at our new weight it probably won't start to grow back too much.
All said with love because I'm absolutely in the same position โค๏ธ

I lost 4 stone on MJ starting last September. I eat a very healthy diet. I lost loads of hair and was really panicking. Itโ€™s now growing back aplenty. I massaged with rosemary oil, took biotin and used fancy shampoos but in the end I think it was just time.

This is really common I had it too, itโ€™s not the drug itโ€™s the weight loss. Effectively the hair follicles close down when the body goes through stress, and then shedding occurs, but itโ€™s temporary, and hair is restored when the body weight stabilises, usually within 3-6 months,

however as youโ€™ve not lost much and itโ€™s over a long period, Iโ€™d check what youโ€™re eating, and if youโ€™re consuming the right nutrients as lack of nutrients could be the culprit here,

I donโ€™t know if this link will work but there was a really good article in the Times about it this week:

That looks like an advertising piece both for florisene , a brand of vitamins, and Pureology a shampoo.

I've been wary of this since i've had huge hair loss from dieting in the past. So far on GLP-1 (week 10) I've had no hair loss.
To prevent hair loss I've never had a day with under 120g protein (I track on the app nutracheck)sometimes I use a protein powder to make sure I have enough (I use organic protein company). I take 10g of collagen daily (ancient and brave brand), and a daily multi vitamin.

CloverPyramid · 12/10/2025 15:02

I lost 8 stone using Mounjaro and basically lost most of my hair. Mine is just really thin now rather than being visibly patchy or anything.

Iโ€™ve been at a stable weight for around 3 months now and do think my hair is coming back, albeit very slowly. Iโ€™ve been focusing on eating lots of protein and I take supplements of biotin, a generic โ€œhair and nailsโ€ one and Vitamin D.

Interesting, I havenโ€™t had hair loss but have had over 120g protein a day (most days over 150g and some days as much as 180g) a daily collagen supplement from the outset.

Thanks so much for all your advice. Iv been through this before.. with PCOS/hormone imbalance and postpartum x2. Itโ€™s just a bit stressful when your mid shed ๐Ÿ˜ญ my scalp is a bit tingly and a few bumps which is usually a sign for me I have some hair coming in ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

I will definitely start looking at my protein, I have not been doing this carefully at all..

I will get a good multivitamin tooโ€ฆ anyone got a good recommendation for collegen and protein supplement that doesnโ€™t cost a fortune. Thanks for all the tips, advice and stories ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Urgh India K . Agree itโ€™s an advertisement, thatโ€™s mostly what anything she writes is.

slightlysmallerPoisonIvy · 12/10/2025 20:44

Following in the hope someone posts a magical cure.
I've lost loads of mine despite eating all the protein and taking all the recommended suplements. I've lost hair before after weight loss and after having covid but this is so much worse, luckily I started with thick hair but it's now about a third of what it used to be

Protein I use both myprotein whey protein isolate and the protein works vegan Wondershake. Most of protein is from food. Just have one shake a day.

For collagen I use healthspan marine collagen. Iโ€™ve taken it for years (long predating MJ) as I think itโ€™s good for joint health.
