Is anyone filling a private prescription from a consultant?

I see a private endocrinologist who has unexpectedly given me a private prescription for Wegovy. I mentioned to him that I was thinking of starting and he agreed it was a good idea and gave me a prescription! Which I was no expecting!

I normally fill my private prescriptions by ringing around some private pharmacies and getting the best price (and factoring in who has the best/quickest fulfilment process), but assume that they are not all set up to send out GLP-1 meds as they have to be frozen? All I've seen online is about the clinics/pharmacies who do the prescribing along with the dispensing.

Just wondered whether anyone has any experience of filling a private prescription? How best to go about it?

Thanks!

I am guessing you can just take it to any pharmacy of your choice (call and check prices before)? Not WLI, but I’ve always had private prescriptions dispensed by my nearest community pharmacy.

These medications do not need to be frozen. They just need to be kept cool. (If stored out of a fridge they need to be used within 30 days, according to the accompanying leaflet. All pharmacies will keep the medication cool in fridges. Take it home and put it straight in your fridge. Alternatively, if delivered, they send it with an ice pack to keep it cool during delivery.

The majority of private prescriptions can be fulfilled by the pharmacy of your choice. Even regular high street pharmacies.

My MJ is prescribed by my consultant and delivered by a pharmacy of his choice, the price has always been competitive. DD's MJ is prescribed by her consultant and she collects it from her local private hospital, again price seems very competative.

OK cool, thank you both. I think I'll just have to ring around tomorrow and see.

Oh cool, thank you! Do you know if you still qualify for the discounts if you already have a prescription? Or does that vary from provider to provider?

The last time I had a private prescription (which was for antibiotics), I had to go onto a website, pay for it and then select a pharmacy. Do you have to do that?

I don’t know about qualifying for discounts but it’s always worth asking! 👍🏻
