Would you stick at 2.5 or go up to 5?

I’m just about to buy my third mounjaro pen.
I’m still in 2.5, and can feel that it’s not quite as effective as it has been although I can still feel the effects, and I’m managing to mostly stick to sensible healthy meals (which was impossible before).

I’m torn though, and not sure whether to do another month (and more maybe) at this level knowing that having to be more careful will hopefully serve me well in terms of getting into better habits. Or do I go up to 5? Or split doses and do 3.75 (have seen this on tiktok).

Personally I'm sticking at 2.5mg for now (week 12 currently) as

  • I'm losing at a good rate (average slightly over 1kg/week) and wouldn't want to lose faster
  • I'm finding it easy to stick to around 1200 cals without thinking about it and wouldn't want to go lower
  • I still get hungry at mealtimes so am building good habits of eating when I hungry, stop when I'm full and I wouldn't want to lose that bit of hunger
  • I have enough side effects to know that the medication is doing something without them being strong enough to have a detrimental impact and I wouldn't want them to get stronger

I keep thinking about going up because I see loads of people on higher doses and it seems like what you should do, but then I think again about those things I just listed and remind myself that it's working the way I want it to so why mess with it.

Personally I moved up. 2.5 isn’t even a dose, it’s a half dose. If you can make it work, then fair play but it’s more willpower than the drug and if you can already feel it’s not working so well in a month it will be like injecting water.

I bought 5mg pen for my second pen, and I’ve so far used it for 8 doses (or 2.5mg). Not everyone will risk it after the 30 days but it’s been fine for me so far. A 5mg doesn’t cost much more and gives more flexibility.

If you can stick with the 2.5 then do it. It worked very well for me and it was 3 months before I went up to 5

I’m regretting sticking with 2.5 and moving up to 3.75. It’s really not doing anything for me and I’m not losing weight. I think I’ve been influenced too much by what other people say is working for them, and worrying about side effects rather than looking at what clinicians advise which is that 5mg is a therapeutic dose and that 2.5 is to get your body used to the medication. I’m definitely having 5mg for my next jab.

In your circumstances I’d likely stick at what’s working, for me I can’t wait to go up to 5.

i took my first dose Saturday and still think and want food a lot, I probably need to start instilling proper meal times and planning a bit more, lost 4lbs but I know that’s mainly water, I do have loads of bloating though!

I’d personally buy a 5mg pen and go up to 3mg then 3.75mg if 3mg didn’t give bad side effects.
Going beyond 30 days doesn’t bother me personally. Plenty of people disagree, which is fine. You’ll find lots of discussion on the subject.

Or even buy the 5mg pen and stick with a 2.5mg dose for a week or two more. (With the same caveats as my previous post).

I’m doing the same as @RenegadeKeeblerElf (also on wk 12!) and losing average 1kg per week now - down 16kg in total, 2 inches off my waist. I also want to still feel hunger and to have to use some willpower so that when I hit goal I can think about coming off or moving to biweekly doses.
I take the point that 2.5 is not deemed a therapeutic dose but it clearly does something for me as I can’t overeat any more and if I overindulge I know about it the next day!

Don’t try and fix what isn’t broken. It’s working and you’re losing weight. I’ve stuck with 2.5mg since June. I’ve lost 18lb. That’s huge and whilst I haven’t lost for a couple of weeks I’m pleased by this… I need to slow it down.
I do buy a 5mg pen though, count 30 clicks & use it over 2 months (halving the cost)

Yes, I think the important thing is to do what works for you. I’m now trying 3.75 but I’m not losing any weight and don’t have any suppression or sense of feeling full. I’m eating healthily and in a calorie deficit but have been hovering around the same weight for weeks. I think for me an increased dose is needed (otherwise I’m wasting my money) but is seems to vary so much from person to person.

I think this is what I’ve decided to do, but a 5 pen and split it.
I have two weeks of 2.5 left so will see how it goes and have the freedom to go up to 3 or 3.75 if I need to.
