Low BMI mounjaro dose for maintenance?

Pyjamatimenow · 27/09/2025 12:57

I have been maintaining my weight loss on 10mg of mounjaro since December last year. I still battle a bit with cravings. I’m about 10st 7. My bmi is 21.1 Appetite suppression is not high but I’m managing. I’ve just tried to re order mounjaro and they’ve said I have to go down to 5mg under new guidelines. I can’t find anything about these guidelines online. I feel worried about this. I really don’t want to gain weight. Anyone else in a similar position?

Which provider is this? I’m maintaining with oushk on 12.5 and they haven’t mentioned anything about tapering.

morbidcuriosity · 27/09/2025 15:26

Also with oushk. I am maintaining on 10mg but when the price increase and we were allowed to buy more I got a 12.5 . They don't seem to mind much.

They take on new people too, maybe try switch to them.

Pyjamatimenow · 27/09/2025 15:41

The care pharmacy. Can I ask what your bmi’s are @FurForksSake @morbidcuriosity They told me it was because my bmi is under 22 that new guidelines say they can’t prescribe above 5 for people of that weight

When I ordered I think my bmi was 22.5 ish..

morbidcuriosity · 27/09/2025 16:05

Saying that when I tried to order an extra from juniper as a first time person, they said I had to come down to 5mg.. I was like ? What from 10? They said yeah 5 them 2.5. So I didn't order with them..
But oushk let me order higher even though am maintaining..

Pyjamatimenow · 27/09/2025 16:26

Thank you. I’ve just emailed Oushk to ask them if they’d take me on and prescribe 10mg. The prescriber at care pharmacy implied it was dangerous to keep prescribing 10 at this weight but I literally can’t find anything to back this up

@Pyjamatimenow this is very interesting, as others have said not something that has been mentioned at Oushk.
I’ve been maintaining for about 6 months and have slowly come down from 10mg without much issue, I continued to lose a few pounds for the first few months but have stayed the same weight for the last few, although having just dropped this week to 2.5mg I am feeling hungrier and more food noise, so I’m going to see if it carries on I will go back to 3.75mg.
My BMI is 21.75 but my last 4 pens have been 5mg.
I found I started to get GI side effects on 10mg and then also on 7.5mg once I’d reached my target weight, it was like it had become too strong for my smaller size.
I’m planning to stay on for at least another year, was hoping to get down to 1.25mg but I don’t want constant food noise back.
Have you considerer dropping down? It would reduce the cost, especially if you are planning to keep on taking it.

Pyjamatimenow · 27/09/2025 17:37

@Itscoldouthere I’ve been too scared to drop down as I’m battling to maintain my current weight on 10mg and I’m fairly hungry after about 3 days. I worried that if I dropped down a dose they’d refuse to up it again. I think I’ve developed a bit of tolerance to it plus I’m really tall so maybe that’s why. The only time I had gastric issues on it was on 12.5 and 15mg

People might lay into me, I’m currently on 5mg with a BMI of 17.5, working to get up to about 19.

Why are you taking something to suppress appetite when you’re actively trying to gain weight? Genuine question, I don’t understand

I started with a BMI of over 27, with high cholesterol. I overshot my target but my prescriber has recommended my titrating my dosage down slowly as I try to increase my weight.

Pyjamatimenow · 27/09/2025 21:20

@zephyr148 I’m surprised they’re prescribing at all. Which supplier is that?

LittlePineapple · 28/09/2025 03:09

That does sound odd Zephyr. Wby not come off it (and save money too) and go back onto 2.5 in say 6months time or if your weight gains too fast.

You're actually underweight and on a wli. That makes no sense.

Superstar22 · 28/09/2025 07:22

@zephyr148 I won’t lay into you… but it sounds unhealthy for you to be so so slim (that’s probably unhealthy anyway) so would you involve your own GP as a second opinion & see whether coming off all together until your BMI was at least 20 might be advised?

WTDress · 28/09/2025 07:37

OP I have a BMI of 20 now after losing 7 stone, and I have recently started titrating down from 10 to 5mg and honestly I haven’t felt massively different in terms of cravings and suppression. In fact I should have injected Friday, but held off until last night as I was going out for lunch yesterday - still couldn’t finish my meal and even though I’d planned to get a dessert I didn’t feel like it in the end.
I have been on 5mg for 2 weeks now and haven’t put any weight on.

I am planning to come off completely by the end of the year, I’ll probably do 2 months at 5mg then a couple of months at 2.5mg and hope and pray after that. And lots of protein! That’s the biggest change I’ve made, high protein, low carb.

Mnjmnj · 28/09/2025 08:59

For those using oushk do you have to do a face to face (online), or similar, once a month when you place your order? I have reached my weight and think I need to at least consider changing providers (I’m with MedExpress - they haven’t mentioned my weight but they are so wishy washy about their long term maintenance policy…). I am happy do a phone consult or similar to start but I’m put off by the idea of having to talk to someone each time I order. I seem to remember this was necessary with oushk?

@WTDress which provider are you with? Have they mentioned your current weight at all, or are they advising on titration?

WTDress · 28/09/2025 09:37

Oushk and no. I haven’t ordered from them for a while, I had a stockpile of 3 10mg pens which I’m using to titrate (I know, I know).

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 28/09/2025 09:43

Pharmulous is another option.

Your pharmacy may have it’s own guidelines but there are not any official ones saying you have to be on 5mg. My bmi is 21.7 and I am actually on 5 having worked my way down from 10mg but Dr Mel was totally open to me staying on 10 if that had been what was working for me.

KrankyKumquat · 28/09/2025 10:40

@Mnjmnj
All new customers at oushk have to have a video consult and everyone has to do a video weight verification every 6 months which takes about a minute if you're well organised. Every order, you have to complete a 'consultation' but this is an on-line form to update weight, SEs, medications, etc, which takes a couple of minutes.

Mnjmnj · 28/09/2025 10:51

Thanks @WTDress @KrankyKumquat
I fill in the details each month with ME, it’s more the thought of doing a call each month. 6 months is doable though.
