Mounjaro out of fridge

TheGreyBee · 14/09/2025 22:58

Hello

my Mounjaro was delivered when we were on holiday and has been unrefrigerated for 4 days. If I put it in fridge now is it still safe for me to use 5th dose?

all information online says it’s not but I’m looking for advise as we know the companies who sell this don’t want us using the ‘golden dose’

thanks to anyone who replies with advice. xx

I can’t work out why it’s safe for thirty days from first use out of the fridge but being out of the fridge to start with would do it any harm if used within 60 days or so. I’d use it as long as it stayed clear and you use could infection control protocols.

By unrefrigerated do you mean it was at room temp for those 4 days, or does some of that time include being in the icepacks and packaging used for delivery? If so, then it's only been at room temp for a couple of days at most. If you have already done the first dose from it, then you can fit 4 more doses in within the 30 day limit, regardless of whether you keep it in the fridge or not.

I'd probably just refrigerate this and crack on as usual, making sure liquid was clear before each dose. Thankfully it's not been particularly warm. But then I am using the same pen for around 9-10 weeks anyway, so I am not the best arbiter of safety!

Thanks for your reply 🙏

Yes it was still in box it was delivered in so ice packs would keep it cold for at least 48 hours. Thanks 🙏

It was delivered on a Saturday and we are not home until late Tuesday night.

But guess it’s safe 9-10 weeks if kept in fridge?

No one can or should tell you that it's safe to use beyond the manufacturer guidelines of 30 days in use. That's because no one can say definitely that there is no risk. It's up to you if you want to decide to go past the manufacturer guidelines and take the additional risks of the medication being less effective and being contaminated with bacteria. The risks are likely to be small, if you are scrupulously hygienic and you keep it at a stable temp in the fridge. But no one can say that is is certainly safe.

JustPinkFinch · 14/09/2025 23:28

As @SilenceInside says, nothing outside what the manufacturer states can be confirmed as safe. If you're going to worry, just toss the pen after 4 doses.

Focusispower · 15/09/2025 05:50

Is It safety that requires it to be refrigerated or is it effectiveness? I think it’s fine personally and would not be overly worrried.

Yes unrefrigerated for 4 days

If it was unrefrigerated for a few days before being opened then you can try the tool on the Lilly website. I tried it for an example of 3 days at 25 degC, ie pretty warm, and the tool said it was perfectly fine to put back in the fridge and sell to a customer as if nothing had happened.
Try the tool yourself. It is likely for the time you're talking about (the first part of that 4 days will have still been at cold temp in the packaging) that they would consider it ok to be sold. On that basis I would personally say treat it as if nothing had happened and do whatever you would choose normally to do. But try the tool for a few cases at different temps and see what it says.
(And Saturday to Tuesday is three days)

Thank you HappyWineDay

I found that link on another post and when I put in my details it said it’s perfectly safe to administer as normally would - time I out of fridge and temperature won’t affect the time life or quality, so I have got my fifth dose after all.

Thank goodness. 😅
