Can I get 5 doses out of 5mg pen if do clicks?

Can I get 5 doses out of 5 mg pen if I do right number of clicks? Dont think I could cope with golden dose procedure.

I have a 5mg pen. Have done two 3.75 mg doses. Due my third dose today. Was thinking of doing 4 mg today as 3.75mg ok but food noise/suppression coming back. Terrified of 5mg.

Was thinking of doing three more doses of 4 mg.

So pen use would be.

Day 0 = 3.75 mg
Day 7 = 3.75 mg
Day 14 = 4 mg
Day 21 = 4 mg
Day 28 = 4 mg = 19.5 mg from 20 mg pen

Any thoughts?

No it won’t work because the pen locks up after 4 doses, regardless of how much is left or how many clicks you did.

I thought it would be ok as people were microdosing

The pen locks after 240 clicks (plus a few for priming) it’s not to do with the number of doses. You will have done 45 clicks times 2, plus three lots of 48 clicks, which equals 234 clicks. So that is less than the 240 available and so will work fine without needing to use separate syringes to extract medication.

It’ll be fine for now but why are you so scared of 5mg? Have you reacted to it before? I’m not sure this would work when the new pens without the extra dose comes in but I’ve been up for a lot of the night so my maths might be off!

If the OP already has her pen in use then it will have enough medication to use for a 5th dose. The apparent new pen design isn’t around as yet.

I also don’t get the terror about moving to 5mg, especially if 3.75 has been fine and you’re finding the effects are wearing off earlier in the week.

Thanks. I am scared of nausea and/or vomiting. It would be the end of MJ for me. I am hoping going up slowly will possibly stop 5mg side effects... My plan would be next pen 2 x 4.5 mg then 2 x 5 mg...

As some one has mentioned the pen clicks out.
I bought a second 5mg pen when I should have moved up to 7.5mg.
I gave myself a 5mg
5mg + 2.5mg (another half clicks)
Then I could only give myself 5mg click
Before the pen locked on me so I lost a dose doing this.
No idea how people are getting around the pen locking. I tried to get passed the locks but it didn't work.
I've never used the golden dose - no idea how you can.

You had three and a half doses from that pen, so you should have been able to give yourself a final half dose from it, 30 clicks, 2.5mg. Are you sure you couldn’t do that, that’s how they work? Many people are successfully using them to microdose with no locking pen issues

I have been using 5 doses of 3.75mg for over a year and pen has never locked for the 5 doses. After the 5th doses there are still clicks remaining. I counted the full pen a couple of times and the pen allows around 257-8 clicks before it locks, nothing to do with number of doses.

I regularly gave 5 jabs from each pen, all at a slightly lower dose.

It locks after about 250 clicks (4 x 60 plus about 10 for priming), regardless of the number of injections. So yes OP, your plan should be fine. 3.75mg is 45 clicks from a 5mg pen and 4mg is 48, so you should need 234 clicks plus priming in total.

Yes it’s fine. 5mg gave me the raging shits, so I lost all of my 5.5 stone on 2.5 and 3.75. I’ve used a pen for eight weeks when I titrated down with no issues (5mg pen but I was taking 2.5 from it before I stopped entirely).

And absolutely nothing wrong with going up slowly, it’s not a race.

The golden dose part is easy. Sterile syringe inserted into the red cushion part, draw out what you want, inject as usual. Only thing with injecting is that you need to insert the needle at an angle and not put it all the way in

There is too much fear of 5mg. If you've had no side effects you will be fine. I've made it all the way to 15mg and had no GI side effects like sulphur burps, constipation or vomiting etc im sure its all to do with what and how much people eat. Best to avoid heavy carbs and fatty food and eat little and often with plenty of water.

You actually will have over 25mg in pen as there is enough for 5 doses in a 5mg pen.
So when you say you couldn't do the golden dose procedure, do you mean using syringes?

You can try the hard twist method, which I've done many times before, easier to use pliers or sheer brute force to move the top of the pen forward, as you would normally rotate it to get to the 1 position. At some point it will lock but keep moving past this, then it will unlock to allow you to rotate it to 1. The only issue is sometimes the plunger inside detaches so when you press down it doesn't move down which is when you have to use a syringe into the red rubber bung to extract the dose. I just use a syringe as I like to remove it all and bought a batch of 10 so easier to do. It doesn't hurt at all, in fact it hurts less than the standard 4mm needles!

What side effects have you had to date?

I know everyone is different but my understanding is that the 2.5 dose was to introduce your body to the medication. I have gone up a dose each month peaking at 10mg and now on 7.5 working back down to maintenance.

Side effects for me were noticeable at 2.5 - felt
bloated, cold, tired, burping and farting! These then resolved so I could class them as ‘mild and transient’.

Not encouraging you to move up doses if you don’t need to but just sharing that all of my SE were on 2.5 until my body adapted.

I had 2 days of mild nausea on 2.5 mg. Since then no side effects.

I have just heard so many grim stories about 5mg and I know I am an absolute baby about nausea and vomiting as had 9 months of it during last pregnancy.

@CloudyYellow if you have only taken 3.75mg twice it will still be building in your body each week, you need to give each dose 4 weeks to level off before you see it's true effect (your last peak after injection would have been the red line in picture, and it will be slightly higher next injection). I personally would be tempted to do 3.75mg for another week and see how you get on while focusing on the basics of protein at every meal and good hydration.

Do what suits you at the speed that suits you, but be aware suppression does not continue with Mounjaro for everyone beyond the first month or two and they continue and successfully lose with the reduced food noise only. I have not had suppression (on 3.75mg too!) for a year now, but continue to lose.

I have just done 48 clicks for 4 mg. Will do same next week then try to get 4.5 mg for 5th dose. Will then try 5 mg.

Sounds like a plan though you may need to buy some needles to get your 5th dose out.

Most people are fine moving up to 5 though. I found I was a bit bloated and not interested in alcohol but then I went up on boxing day so it was sort of to be expected (given a few days of over eating compared to what I had been doing).

I am now on 12.5 (3rd pen) and while I have had occasional bouts of nausea (caused by overeating, eating late or having cake which I only do rarely), I have never been sick if that is any comfort to you.

This sounds so easy.

I tried to do it today, my needle bent and I thought I had drawn up the requisite amount but I had actually only managed to get 0.2 rather than 0.6. It was full of air and bubbles, and given the bent state of my syringe needle, I gave up. I am clearly an incompetent.

I don’t think you are incompetent at all… sorry it didn’t work for you. If you get chance, try and watch some videos on YouTube where they’ll show what’s needed to be done, including giving the syringe a good flicking to get any air bubbles out

@Mysticmaiden how exactly are you so sure side effects are to do with what people eat and how much?! How judgemental.

I was incredibly unwell recently after increasing my dose. I was eating around 1000 calories a day, focused on protein and low/no sugar. No carbs or fatty food 🙄 And still got completely wiped out by the dose increase.

Cant stand sweeping, incorrect statements.

@OP good luck, don’t rush up the doses and do use your golden dose with a sterile needle!
