As the title indicates I have a brand new 10mg pen untouched in the fridge that i was due to start November last year- but didnt due to illness.
after illness I started afresh on 2.5mg and worked my way back up slowly - am about ready to start the 10mg dose. Now on checking my pen the expiry date is 08/25
Would You?
I know strictly speaking i should discard but there is a little voice in my head going its new its sealed, its bloody expensive use it.
somebody give my head a wobble as i just dont know what to do?

Given thats it's still August 2025 I would use it

IsItSnowing · 28/08/2025 08:59

Medicines rarely become ineffective after their expiry date. There was a big study by the US military a few years ago which showed they were all (except antibiotics) effective for years after the official expiry date.
Anyway, yours isn’t actually expired yet. Personally I’d use it.

TallulahBetty · 28/08/2025 09:01

It hasn't expired. It is still August.

Mysticmaiden · 28/08/2025 09:06

I would if it had been kept in fridge as it hasnt expired yet, but it's your body and your choice.

CatsorDogsrule · 28/08/2025 09:07

I'd also use it. It hasn't yet expired. I'd advise you to keep in the fridge once opened too, although the risk from a couple of weeks out of date is likely negligible.

Thebigonesgetaway · 28/08/2025 09:13

Yeah especially as you kept in fridge, and it expires this month, so a few weeks extra I’d risk

KillerMounjaro · 28/08/2025 09:13

I wouldn’t even give it a second thought if the date is 08/25.
Today it is still in date obviously. What could possibly happen on Sunday that makes it suddenly dangerous to use, but completely fine the day before?

It it was 6 months out of date it may be different, but logically surely it’s no issue.

Finteq · 28/08/2025 09:14

Yeah I'd use it.

It doesn't turn to poison after the expiry date.

Just may mean not as effective

Finteq · 28/08/2025 09:15

I take Paracetamol and other capsules etc a few months after expiry also creams and ointments that have been kept in fridge.

BackToWegovy · 28/08/2025 09:22

An issue might be getting hold of your next pen with the prescription date for 10mg being so long ago. Maybe a more human pharmacy will be happy with your explanation but some probably won’t be.

WorriedRelative · 28/08/2025 09:26

It is still in date until the end of August, expiry dates always refer to the end of the month.

So definitely take a dose from it.

Personally I would use the whole thing as usual, a few weeks over won't matter as long as the liquid remains clear.

This time last year they extended the expiry on a batch of pens.

chatgptsbestmate · 28/08/2025 09:28

But it hasn't expired. I'm confused by your question
