How to dose 2.5mg from a 5mg pen?

I know there are lots of posts about how to extract a different dose from a pen but could someone tell me how to take a 2.5mg dose from a 5mg pen? It’s only my second pen but I’ve decided I don’t want to increase to 5mg (which was what was recommended by the provider). I’ve got a 2.5mg on order but no sign of it arriving.

Do I just prime the pen as normal then do a reduced number of clicks? How many clicks would it be?

And ignore things like making sure the ‘0’ is in the window for future doses and just focus on the number of clicks?

I didn’t plan to do this and am feeling very nervous about it so any advice would be welcome.

Prime as normal. Then instead of turning the pen all the way to the 1 position, which would be 60 clicks, you only turn it for 30 clicks. Then you inject as normal so that the dial goes back down to 0.

A full dose is 60 clicks of the pen, so 2.5mg (half a dose) is 30 clicks.
Prime the pen as normal (2 clicks and press the plunger, check some liquid comes out of the needle), the 0 will show in the window after priming.
Turn 30 clicks, inject as normal.

Wait until you decide in a couple of weeks that the 2.5 isn't that effective anymore, but you're still not quite ready for 5 ...
You can stage upwards to 3.75 (45 clicks) still using the same pen 🙂

glad it worked. Extra tip - if you plan to do this for whole pen, count the clicks really slowly and carefully the first time, then use a sharpie to make a dot in the window to line up next time without having to count. There are also barely noticeable dips in the plunger next to the scale that line up with certain sub doses.

Thank you. I decided I was too worried about side effects if I moved up to 5 too quickly so this sounds like a great idea.
