Count clicks v only half plunging on Mounjaro Kwik pens

Hi

I've been reading how the pens now won't work with a hard twist after the 4th use so you can't stretch out a mounjaro pen or access the partial 'extra' dose.

Would counting the 30 on first use and Sharpie marking where that is, then continuing up to the 1, than only plunging in until the Sharpie mark work?

Or am I missing something obvious. Not keen on using a syringe to pull it out but if that's the only way to do will consider getting all the correct equipment for it.

I buy a small pack of sterile diabetic needles with measures from Amazon instead and use one to draw out the golden dose. It’s very straight forward and there are plenty of ‘how to’ videos available on you tube.

I’m trying to understand what you’re suggesting. Are you proposing administering two doses from one full 60-click turn?

You would still need to prime the pen before each dose, so the second dose would not be full.

It locks after the total number of clicks are used. For example, 4 x 60 clicks full dose or 8 x 30 clicks half dose etc etc. It’s not the amount of times that you use the pen that makes the pen lock.

Sorry but this is wrong. I know because I part dose and have to draw out my other doses with insulin needles. Four plunges ad the pen will not work.

I disagree. It locks after the total number of clicks are used so If you only part dose to 30 clicks you could get at least 8 plunges out of a full pen.

Yes, I’ve done more than 4 partial doses and it’s the number of clicks that locks the pen, not the number of injections.

Is it true that you can't hard twist the pen to get the 5th dose now? I did this last year when I was on mounjaro and have just restarted. I'd hoped to do this again.

@Rorpethy Sometimes it works but most of the time the mechanism inside breaks so best to have the insulin syringe on standby 🫤

You would have had the old style pens. The new mechanisms started to appear towards the end of 2024 and have taken a while to trickle through.

That's not true. I micro dose and use the pen many more than 5 times. It locks after 4x 60 clicks

My long dated pens work off clicks not plunges.
