Sorry for posting a Daily Fail link, but saw this on Reddit and...well, honestly. Apparently WLI users are the reason the pension age is going up 🙄

I needed a bit of light relief after all the kerfuffle about price rises, and this certainly provides it. I wonder who this ‘government source’ who is worried that people will stop dying of obesity related problems is (or even exists).

SilenceInside · 17/08/2025 11:51

They haven’t considered that healthier people will be able to work more and probably want to work into older age longer too. So you may see more people move from being out of work to being in work, or those working part time working for more hours. And probably taking less sick leave too. And saving the NHS money too due to being healthier.

But the DM isn’t about a reasoned argument and is just about getting the clicks, and blaming WLI is one of their current favourites.

More fodder for the fatphobic to post on AIBU, I suppose.

I can see their point, even if this article is just scaremongering. A healthier workforce will be able to work for longer, so the government will want us to work longer to pay out less state pension. Overall less people with obesity related illnesses is always going to be a good thing.

".............some people in the Treasury are worried about the impact on the pension crisis. Obesity is a big killer."

Jeez, do you think they have having a think tank of other ways to kill us off when we are no longer useful instead? 🙈
