No change in measurements despite 2stone loss

I’m a slow loser but consistent and have lost just over 2st in 5 months.

I took measurements 2months in and I did so again today so almost 3 months apart and there is zero difference except 2cm off my bum. I’m a size 16/18 and 5’5” ish. I don’t really understand where the weight is going from then(actually it’s probably my boobs)

I’m a bit disheartened as I thought leaving it a good length of time between measurements would allow me to see a bigger difference and feel the satisfaction of loss. Some measurements have actually gone up.

I know not to compare myself to others but it gets me down when the scales say I’m losing but the measuring tape and clothes don’t and others claim to have lost loads and dropped dress sizes in no time at all.

Took me 3 stone off to see a real difference and I still have a huge stomach :(

InfoSecInTheCity · 13/08/2025 20:40

How sure are you that you were accurate in your measurements? I take mine every now and then but I’m pretty certain I don’t have the tape measure in exactly the same place each time for my waist or hips or other my boobs, I try but it could easily be 1cm higher or lower on each take.

Theres an app called MeThreeSixty that does a full body image and then gives you every measurement, bit of a pain to do by yourself as involves propping the phone up and getting into just the right position but if you’ve got someone who can help it’s really good and would be a useful way to keep track. Bit disturbing seeing your body shape as a shadow/outline though at first I looked like the alien guys from Bill and Ted, skinny arms and legs big bulbous belly. It’s evened out a lot now thank god.

I know exactly how you feel. The first couple of stone I lost didn't seem to make much difference in how I looked, or my dress size.
There was a discussion about this on MN and someone posted about the paper towel theory, and it does make sense.
Eventually, once I got to about a 3 stone loss it started to show and I have now lost nearly 5 stone and dropped from an 18/20 to a size 14.
Now that I am slimmer I really notice even just a few pounds off.
Have a look at the Paper towel/kitchen roll theory.....

PAPER TOWEL THEORY

I recently read this weight loss analogy that I found so intriguing and motivating I thought I should share. I hope you find this helpful in your weight loss journey!

Thanks
I was accurate with my measurements as my friend helped me and we double checked to be sure.

I’m jist a bit gutted that there’s not so much as a cm difference in my waist. Pre perimenopause I never had a belly or a large waistline even when pregnant and I hoped this medicine would help.

I lost 2 stone, not jabs, and still have a stone and a half to go. It’s not made a huge difference though I feel much better….but highly recommend doing some weights to tone up. I’m 56 and it’s made a difference…

JustPinkFinch · 19/08/2025 08:06

I lost 2 inches off my waist really quickly at the start, but now it's slowed right down. Weight seems to be coming off my legs, arms, back, bum, face....but my belly fat is clinging on for dear life. It's clearly set out its stall and will be the last to go. Also in peri.

Gettingfitorbust · 19/08/2025 08:12

Do you do any exercise? I’ve haven’t lost anything like you, but my shape has changed as I have become more toned.

LastKnownSurvivor · 19/08/2025 08:24

Do you have any clothes in your wardrobe that you are too big for at the moment? Trying on an outfit (either dress or top and bottoms) that's too small once a week can be motivating because you will feel it getting looser and closer to fitting in the non-obvious places, e.g. upper arms even if there's no tape-measure reduction that week in your waist and hips.

5andals · 19/08/2025 09:31

2st is a massive amount of weight to loose, it will be benefitting you one way or the other, so don't be disheartened.
One thought as well, it could be the fat around your internal organs that had been lost first..I'm no scientist but no one ever talks about that.

onlymethen · 19/08/2025 09:42

It will be your visceral fat, the really bad fat around your organs. It goes first and makes very little difference to your actual size, but once it’s gone you will start to see a difference. Keep going and the next few months will really start to show your weight loss. Good luck.

User37482 · 19/08/2025 09:49

I would assume it’s visceral fat too, well done OP, thats a good chunk of weight. Also there may be areas you aren’t measuring like arms around your back etc.

I’ve lost over 2 stone but my shape and before/now photos are near identical to when I started.

Thank you! I hadn’t considered that. I read today Prednisolone is really bad for visceral fat and it would make sense as that’s what has made me fat in the first place!
