What day, what time do you take your WLI, and do you eat before or after?

I’m about to start Mounjaro, and trying to work out when/how to take it, manage side effects now and in future so asking for your takes.

My thoughts were Tuesday mid morning after an early breakfast and back from dropping my son at school (I WFH). I already have bad insomnia so taking it at night didn’t seem a great plan.

What do you typically eat before/after injecting?
Thanks

I don't think at all about what I eat before or after, other than generally following a healthy diet. It's not fast acting for nearly everyone, and even if you did immediately feel the effects, you won't notice any difference with what you've eaten. Unless you've had a ginormous fatty carby meal perhaps.

I inject on a Friday morning, when I'm WFH and after the kids are at school. I know I will have 5 minutes uninterrupted to sort out the injection. It also means that for me I get the most effects (appetite suppression, feeling fuller quicker and for longer) over the weekend, which I prefer.

Missymarple · 12/08/2025 12:26

I aim for about 7pm on Wednesday, that's about an hour after I've eaten so I don't eat again until the next morning. If it's going to upset my stomach, it tends to do it on day 1 or 2 so by the weekend I feel fine if I inject on the Wednesday.

I do it Monday morning before breakfast. Largely because I’m with SheMed, so have to do a video weigh in, and I’d rather not weigh after eating. I chose Monday as I camp a lot of weekends over summer so any side effects (which, thankfully, have been very few) should’ve worn off by the weekend and won’t spoil my time away.

WeAllHaveWings · 12/08/2025 12:38

I take mine sometime on Saturday, could be anytime from morning to evening (and sometimes Sunday if I'm busy Saturday!)

I don't time around food or sleep as it doesn't impact either immediately (for me anyway).

PearlsPearl · 12/08/2025 13:01

I take mine just before bed on Sunday nights. It wears off by the weekend so I like to be able to eat a bit more on Sat and Sun so it works for me.

Twice I’ve done it and not gone straight to sleep and both times felt sick. If I take it just before bed I’m absolutely fine. That’s the only times I’ve felt sick ever though, just those 2 occasions.

I eat the same every day. I don’t do anything different for jab day! I can just eat a bit more on day 6/7. And I have a dessert every Sunday as a treat.

When I first started I had exactly the same thought as you @Pumpernickelbrakes , so I injected first thing in the morning and didnt eat for a couple of hours, just incase. Over the months I have injected before/after breakfast, in the afternoons and once in the evening just before eating, ie whenever suits me.
In all cases I find that the effects really kick in about 24 hours later.
As PP's said, whenever you inject the advice is to stick to a healthy protein/vege diet, & avoid high fat/high carb meals. I also find that fizzy drinks really make me nauseous (and too much wine, but that was a one off, and lesson learnt!)
Good luck.

YourNeedyLurker · 12/08/2025 13:20

I take mine after my late shift on a Monday, so just before midnight as I started that way as I don’t have to be in the office until Saturday (NHS).

i eat pretty much the same as I do all week, follow mainly low carb with occasional berries and bananas. I have no real interest in food now so just eat to stay fuelled.

chowmeinz · 12/08/2025 13:22

Tuesday morning - I never eat until around 10am but I do my injection when I get up around 7am. I have no reason for doing it on a Tuesday other then my first pen was delivered on a Monday afternoon

Yellowsubmarine55 · 12/08/2025 13:33

I do 9.30 ish on a Tuesday morning, after I'm back from school run and have started work.

I have breakfast around 8.

Tuesday and Wednesday are the days when I have most suppression etc but by the weekend I can eat more easily and that works for family life and social stuff.

ChangingWeight · 12/08/2025 13:38

Any day, any time & I eat whenever. When you’ve been on it for a while, it just becomes a normal part of your lifestyle.

qotsa · 12/08/2025 14:33

Mines never made a difference when I’ve taken it. Morning. Afternoon. Before or after food. Never really had any side effects.

PurpleCoo · 12/08/2025 15:50

Friday lunchtime/early afternoon for me. It's my NWD and I do it after gym class/swim but before the cleaner arrives 😂

If it's a travel week, it might be later in the day if I am out all day hiking.

I started on a Friday lunchtime initially so if I got side effects the worst would be at the weekend, but I never got any.

Incognitoburrito88 · 12/08/2025 15:53

Friday morning as I don’t work Fridays. I wake up, weigh in, do my injection then get the kids up for school and get on with my day. I don’t I tend to have breakfast mid / late morning but that’s just my normal Friday routine nothing to do with the injection.

Ineedanewsofa · 12/08/2025 16:04

Friday morning between 7.30 and 8am. Chose that because it’s my WFH day so if I did experience side effects I’d be home and near a loo! Also because weekends were when I was likely to overindulge in both food and wine. Eat the same as any other day, following high protein/high fibre/low carb as per pp, tracking everything in my fitness pal to stick to a calorie deficit.
No side effects so far and 8kg down in 4 1/2 weeks

WorriedRelative · 12/08/2025 16:14

It is very personal as people react differently.

I don't like to jab on an empty stomach, it can give me a headache, and eating soon after can make me feel uncomfortable stuffed or give me a bit of heartburn. So I jab after a light lunch, doesn't have to be straight after though.

I do it on a work from home day, originally in case of side effects, but more for convenience now.

I'm not strict about time of day, if I am out or travelling it might vary significantly. I have jabbed at like 3am having got up early for a flight and also late at night before bed if I have been busy.

I also occasionally jab a day early or late if I have commitments.

I jab early in the week, so max suppression doesn't ruin any weekend plans.

Nevertrustacop · 12/08/2025 16:22

It takes around 70 hours for mounjaro to be at it's highest in your system. It has very little impact in first few hours.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 12/08/2025 17:54

Wednesday around 5.30 pm and usually before because I do Body Pump at 6 but sometimes after depending on life!

Xmasfairy86 · 12/08/2025 19:45

Late Saturday night. Try and remain eating the same, no overly fatty foods as this can upset my stomach - was the same pre MJ so not a SE that I’m aware of for me.

in my head I ‘sleep it off’ but I know that’s not the case, but I started that way so have just continued

DBatteryBand · 12/08/2025 20:18

I inject on Saturday morning. I started doing it then because I don't work on Mondays, so hoped SEs would be more manageable without having to worry about getting to work. Happily, so far (started in May) I have had few SE - some nausea but nothing outrageous. I usually take a coffee back to get with me then just have normal breakfast (Greek yoghurt and berries or scrambled egg). I do find if I drink more than a few glasses of wine on Sunday night then I wake up around 4am on Monday feeling really, really sick. Of course this is easy to manage - I stopped having glasses of wine on Sunday evenings. It doesn't happen on Friday or Saturday night, when I might also have a glass of wine. Must be to do with levels of MJ at that time.

MrsMiagi · 13/08/2025 07:03

Wednesday morning before breakfast. Supression kicks in over Thurs/Fri, eases a little over the weekend but lasts enough to get me through until the following Wednesday.
Had to do a Wednesday evening recently and it felt so sick the next day! Wednesday morning is the perfect day and time for me.
