Frustrating attitudes to WLI

I’ve just seen a post on social media by a friend understandably pleased that she’s been away on holiday for 2 weeks and didn’t gain weight, ate sensibly and exercised.
All good but she then goes onto comment that she gets that jabs work for some but you can do it naturally with a bit of hard work and the right mindset.

I have 2 frustrations with this -
The jabs aren’t magic and it’s well documented that you still have to eat healthily and preferably work out for the best results.
And this particular person has no such reservations about regular use of Botox and fillers; I imagine she’d be upset if anyone suggested she wasn’t aging ‘naturally’.

I’ve been on MJ since November and have lost 3lb shy of 4 stone.
For me, the lack of food noise has been life changing beyond belief.
But it’s this type of BS that means I don’t tell people I’m on it.

Very frustrating attitudes.
Anyway, onwards I go 😊

Honestly I just laugh nowadays, when I first started on MJ I was livid constantly by the digs as they were constant and brutal on social media, but now I just don't care. I've lost 2.5 stone, I'm happy and I didn't want to do it the 'hard' way - why would anyone? Still have to put the work in but MJ helped in a way nothing else has over the last decade.

Ignore and enjoy your weight loss - congratulations btw, that's an amazing loss!

It's ok - she's not really talking to you. She's talking to herself. People usually are.

You don't need to take on her values. You don't share her values around thinness or health being a moral achievement (or I hope you don't because that's vapid as fuck!) and you don't need to share them. Let her crack on. It doesn't hurt you. Maybe one day she'll work through all this, or maybe not. Lots of people are mixed up about this stuff - there's no shame in being a bit mixed up about it.

You just don't need to take any of this on.

I conclude it’s people who lack critical thinking and can’t see past the end of their own noses that have negative views about things they know nothing about. Not worth giving it the time of day, frustrating all the same.

Doe she know you're on WLIs?

Hi, No she doesn’t.
It was a general comment. I don’t usually take notice of this kind of stuff but it’s the double standards with the facial jabs that have irritated me. This chat group feels like a safe place to air a bit of grumble.

Is she obese or significantly overweight?

She seems to have fallen into the same thought processes as a lot of people, that WLI are available to everyone as a cosmetic tool for any reason, rather than a prescription-only medication for treating obesity and/or weight related health problems. Probably her thought processes have been exacerbated by how WLI are widely advertised (probably against the rules) by many online pharmacies and associated influencers.

Rather than be frustrated, I’d be a bit disappointed (if she was a good friend) that she wasn’t able to think around it a bit and realise the cliched tropes she is repeating. I would lose a bit of respect for her, but it’s not worth allowing it to get to you.

You're my mj twin! Same time frame, similar amount lost! Before mj I could lose weight for a while but the food noise would dial up and up until I'd put it all back on and more. My body would scream against it. Good luck to your friend but I couldn't keep it up long term. I'm with a provider that supports long term maintenance doses and know I'll need this to keep the weight off. Mounjaro has opened the opportunity to be a healthy weight for the rest of my life. I'd given up hope of that at 46 and facing the menopause. It's incredible and my body is so much happier for it.

Hi, no she looks like she’s a healthy weight.
You’re absolutely right - it is disappointing but not worth dwelling on.

People are twats and opinions are like arseholes- everyone has one!

Just ignore. I’ve found as I get older I ignore more and more people and my life is better for it 😂

Congratulations MJ twin!! 🥳
I’m so pleased for you; I totally get the dialling up of the food noise after a while.
Thankfully, I am also with a provider who supports maintenance (although maybe another stone to get to that point).
Good luck on your ongoing improved health x

People have opinions on things right or wrong, informed and uninformed. Many polarised opinions are formed from superficial media headlines only - whether it is Apple, EVs, football, Brexit, IKEA, fashion, gender politics etc etc etc.

You take it personally and get more frustrated because you are using WLIs and it is emotive for us, it is not emotive for them - it is no different to them favouring android and hating apple. At the end of the day it is just someone's opinion on something. I tend to ignore it.
