Unexpected (positive) side effect of Mounjaro

Not sure if this has affected anyone else but thought it worth posting.

As soon as I had the very first covid jab (and I was one of the early ones!) the Tinnitus started. It drove me mad for the first few months but I have learned to live with it. I did a red card report through the GP and have seen various people about it over the years. Coping strategies including falling asleep with the tv on to drown it out.

So, imagine my shock when 4 weeks ago I had my first Mounjaro jab and within a couple of hours the noise STOPPED. completely gone, nothing. It sent me into a bit of panic but as the week wore on it started to drift back. I thought it was a one off with the first jab but no, the mounjaro clearly works on something in my brain which was affected by the Covid jab. I have reported it to my doctor (jabs are through the pharmacy/GP ) . Has this happened to anyone else with tinnitus or balance issues?

WOW! No experience of this but wow, this is one of the most incredible and clear signs of the power of this medication!

Does your gp have any idea why it’s doing this? I am fascinated! I wonder if it was some sort of inflammation in the ear canal somewhere and the mounjaro has reduced it? Not sure how tinnitus is caused tbh!

It must be incredible and very very weird to have the silence back!!

Wow, that is amazing! I suffer a bit myself so I'll keep listening to see if there's any change!

afaloren · 30/07/2025 10:24

That’s amazing I wish it would happen to me! I’ve had tinnitus for over ten years.

ImTheLittleRedHen · 30/07/2025 11:46

That’s very interesting, has it only helped people who tinnitus started from the covid jab? Or tinnitus in general?

littlefireseverywhere · 30/07/2025 11:49

That’s amazing, I’ve seen so many benefits to the drug as well as weightloss. My joints don’t ache, I’m less anxious, I’ve stopped biting my nails. And lost 4 stone, lots to go though.

StrikeForever · 30/07/2025 12:06

That’s great. It must be wonderful for you. It has all sorts of benefits. Due to it reducing inflammation in the body, I have only taken 3 doses of pain killers for my Arthritis since I started taking it in April. Before that I was needing a couple of doses a day! Also, my notoriously brittle nails have become strong and grown nicely 🤷‍♀️

I do believe that every health condition has a cure - it's just the drs don't have the time/want to find the cure - they just give medication/advice to stop the symptoms (which give you more/worse side effects)

I was diagnosed with tinnitus 15ish years ago - was told I'd have to live with it for the rest of my life. Something another consultant said to me made me look into my symptoms more and I worked out that tinnitus (along with other symptoms that were not related) was a symptom of something else I was experiencing. It was an easy fix and I've never had tinnitus since.

So yes, I do believe that this can happen - the jab has altered something in your body (maybe you were lacking something that the jab gave you or whatever the reason), that was giving you the symptom of tinnitus.

MandSJaffaCakesRule · 30/07/2025 12:21

I have definitely had huge reduction in anxiety since I started mounjaro. I suspect I am neuro diverse, huge over thinker. Had lots of stressful situations which I would have found v difficult to cope with but just seemed to have powered through with an unprecedented level of calm.

fudgedups · 30/07/2025 12:38

The calming effect is real. I feel so calm and at peace since starting MJ

WeAllHaveWings · 30/07/2025 12:40

I wish!

I've had tinnitus for 12 years - constant noise day and night. Been on Mounjaro for 1 year.

Would love to hear silence again!

Pleased for you (but extremely jealous too!)

@MB34 what was your easy fix?

Fetaface · 30/07/2025 12:52

Not had tinnitus but I can now smell and taste 5 years after losing it with covid since starting the jabs.

MILLYmo0se · 30/07/2025 13:18

I'm beginning to wonder if the jabs affect the mast cells/histamine..... That would link in with symptoms caused by covid too

tattychicken · 30/07/2025 13:33

Not me but a friend has reported a lack of desire to drink alcohol. Always been a decent wine guzzler and now hasn't drunk since January.

mummymeister · 30/07/2025 14:56

thanks everyone for taking the time to message on this. I am thinking that because it was the covid jab that started the tinnitus that mounjaro in some way must have an effect on the symptoms that that caused. My gp is intrigued and I do wonder if I am the only one. It was horrible and a shock when it started because it is really persistent and loud - we have to have the tv up several notches for me to be able to hear it. I am currently staying on 2.5 and wonder what will happen if/when I go up to 5.

Alas, my tinnitus is just as bad whilst on Mounjaro, and in fact I think it’s a little worse - I was even googling the other day whether Mounjaro worsens tinnitus!

Falseknock · 30/07/2025 19:31

I don't get sugar cravings anymore which is a good thing.
Edit I stopped comfort eating because I physically cannot stuff my gut. I've learned to develop other coping mechanisms.

Smallsalt · 01/08/2025 08:50

My autoimmune arthritis is so reduced that I have dropped all pain killers. My previously fluid filled knees now look like normal knees.
I also couldn't wear a watch or earrings as my skin broke out horribly. This has completely stopped.

Highish but not high enough to be medicated blood pressure is now in the very healthy indeed zone.

These effects were all from first jab, so not due to weight loss.

Kendodd · 01/08/2025 09:04

This thing does seem to be a wonder drug.
I've heard it can even reduce gambling and shopping addiction.

Yes it helps stop obsessive thoughts and it affects the reward system in the brain.
