Where to buy needles for injections if they aren't supplied with the pen?

I've just had my 3rd dose of Mounjaro 2.5mg. After my final dose next week I'll be changing to a different pharmacy, as the price doubles after the first month with my current pharmacy (Numan). I was sent 5 needles, several wipes and a sharps bin along with the pen from Numan. I am wondering, where do you get the needles from if they aren't included with the pen? I also might need another sharps bin eventually when my current one is full.

You buy them online, from a medical supplier, but they will be supplied, the needles definitely, you may have to purchase a sharps bin, eventually but they hold a fair bit.

I'd imagine that all suppliers provide a bin and needles. I haven't come across one who hasn't.

You can buy sharp bins easily, most suppliers will give/sell you one or even off amazon. My first sharps bin was a compact 0.25L one and lasted a year (just needles in it) so no immediate worry.

most providers also supply pen needles, but if you want spares, just google the brand, length of needle you have and you can buy a box of 100 from wherever you find cheapest, including amazon (pen needles ok from amazon, but not syringes)

The only supplier I have found who don’t include needles is The Family Chemist and they make it very clear and ask if you want to add them to your order about 10 times during the process!! Everywhere else has included needles and wipes.

You can always order another sharps bin for whichever pharmacy you buy the MJ from but I’m 13 months in and haven’t needed a second one (if we ignore the baby sized one that Voy sent with my very first order!).

Surprised wipes are being supplied. Not supposed to wipe the skin before a sub cut injection.

They are for the pen aren’t they?

I’ve used three providers and all of them sent needles and all of them offered a sharps bin.

I have read a post on here where someone needed a needle in a short time frame and she got one in Boots.

The wipes are for the pen!

@Bananachimpwhat? Why does the pen need wiping. I’m on Wegovy so don’t know if it’s different. The needles are in the box with the pen.

On Mounjaro the pen has a small red seal that you push the needle through when you attach it. You’re meant to wipe the seal first to reduce the risk of any bacteria being pushed through the seal with the needle. It’s a pretty small risk tbh if you keep the pen properly, but why not.

Theres no harm in wiping the skin before injecting, although it’s been shown to not really have any impact on infection rates.

A box of 100 needles was around £28 on Amazon when I looked. I found the same box from various online pharmacies for around £4 plus a couple of quid p&p. Just Google "kwikpen needles 4mm"

All prescribers should send you the needles you require for each pen. If they don’t I’d contact them.

Plus I’ve been on Mounjaro for over a year and not filled a sharps bin yet. But you can usually request a bin when you order.

I am glad I got extra because twice now I've primed and nothing came out, so I put on a new needle. I got them from ukmedi.
