Can I just stop Mounjaro without tapering?

I am on 7.5mg. I want to stop now as I am experiencing a lot of hair loss and stomach issues. I have one more 7.5 pen which I can use to decrease to 5mg for a few weeks. Will that be enough or do I need to taper to 2.5mg?

You can just stop if you like. I think most people go down the doses to try to adapt to feeling hungry again to help them keep the weight off but there's no medical need to do this.

You don’t need to decrease doses at all, you can just stop. There is no issue with doing that, as the levels in your body will just slowly fall until it’s all out of your system. People tend to step down doses when they’re trying to find a maintenance dose where they can keep their weight stable. You don’t need to do that if you want to come off it altogether.

This is just my own experience, but I was on MJ last year and stopped cold turkey due to a bereavement which upended my life and meant it wasn't a priority. I gained half the weight I'd lost back quite quickly (probably also due in part to the fact I was grieving and not watching what I was eating). When I begin maintenance after my current pen I will be tapering down instead so I can hopefully do a more mindful maintain.

That being said, if you're on 7.5 now and can go down to 5 you basically are tapering down.

Thank you

It takes up to 30 days for Mj to leave your system. Most still seem to prefer a taper to get used to feeling properly hungry again. Also be aware hormones like leptin and ghrelin kick in to try to get you to eat (set point theory).

Is that a chatgtp answer?

I stopped on the 7.5 cold turkey. No issues. Obviously hungry again but not too bad. Good luck.

@witte Yep, textbook ChatGPT.

I just stopped. Was only on 5 mg though. Weight has crept up slightly so I’m now trying intermittent fasting
