Plateau and weight creeping back up

I’ve been on Mounjaro since the end of August. I started at 14 stone 9, and my lowest weight, which I reached at the end of November, was 12 stone 7. The highest dose I went to was 7.5, which made me feel dreadful.

I decided to stay on 5mg which has served me well since, but I’m now noticing my weight creeping up and last time I weighed I was 12 stone 11. I can definitely hear food noise, and I can also shovel more into my mouth than I could before.

Has anyone experienced this? I’m so frustrated because I’m going away a week on Sunday and after spending the last 9 months or so feeling fab, suddenly I feel like crap again. Great timing.

Has this happened to anyone else? Would you recommend going back up to 7.5?

Thank you.

I've not been in your situation as only just starting to maintain but in your shoes I'd probably do something in between like 6/6.5mg by counting clicks.

I know when I maintain that undoubtedly some weeks I might need slightly higher dose than others due to my hormones which really seems to affect things

I"m on 10mg and have lost 5 stone since Jan.

When my weight stalls only moving up in dose gets it going again.

I would think your body has become used to 5mg..do you valorie count are you in a deficit?

if I’m really honest, no. I think the suppression always saw me through but I have very minimal suppression now and I suppose I’m just eating ‘normally’. I think I’ll get on with this 5mg and then go up to the dreaded 7.5 for the next month.

Every time I step up dose it wipes me out the first week I'd say by week 2 and defo by 3 it passes.

If you can deal with feeling poorly gor a week or two try and move up. I think your weight will start shifting again x

Ps...nutracheck is a very good calorie app.

I avoid nothing but just make it all fit into my allowance for the day!

Littlelambseativy · 22/07/2025 21:58

Thank you. I really didn’t get on with 7.5 but 5 isn’t really doing anything any more. Although I accept I’ve probably taken my eye off the ball as well, the suppression is non-existent.

Hey

when you say eating normally, what does this mean? Just problem solving here so maybe just one day put in everything you eat into nutricheck or MyFitnessPal to see what eating normally means to you. It will give you calories and split on protein/carbs/fat. Work out your new TDEE for current activity levels. It may be you can play around with diet or up exercise if not in deficit. If you are in deficit, it could be hormonal changes that we all get from time to time so continue eating in deficit amd ride it out as hopefully with drop back down. There will be something so start with ins and outs then start looking at other things to work out why. Depending on the time span between the two weigh ins it may be water weight, dehydration/hot weather related or food related and not real weight gain. As may be with less suppression you need to calorie count for a week to find your new normal way of eating at new weight? And of course you can up the dose if can cope with SE? Good luck. You will find a way!

The side effects don't last that long. I felt poorly on 7.5 but it passed and I was fine from then up to 15mg. It seems obvious that if you are only still at 5mg the effectiveness will be minimal after a while as that's a low dose.

Sorry you’re experiencing this. I’m a slow loser - hypothyroid and on Sertraline. I lose about half a pound a week and have stalls! I’m on 7.5 mg currently. I’ve had to go up the doses v slowly due to nausea and indigestion. So, for example I’d use the first 7.5 mg pen to titrate up using clicks over 5 weeks (using the bonus dose). So, I went up 0.5 per week. Then go to the full 7.5mg for the second pen. That works for me - side effects were manageable. Lots of water helped as well.

I also find the nutritional advice on Zoe and the Zoe podcasts are fab - transformative in terms of nutrition for me.

Good luck - you’ll get there. All it needs is for you to go up a dose and you’ll soon be on your way again.

Thanks for all the replies, I think you’re all correct, back to basics I go! I don’t actually want to lose more than about another stone, but I’m definitely eating more all of a sudden. I assumed I’d be able to stay at 5 as a maintenance dose, but I need to watch my calorie intake. I’ll calorie count now before my hols and order a 7.5 I think. Stop resting on my laurels!
