Did anyone else get strong suppression after their first 2.5mg Mounjaro injection?

I had my first Mounjaro injection today at 10am. I haven't thought about food at all since I injected it. I haven't felt hungry either. Not had any side effects (yet). I'm happy with it so far. Is it normal to have such strong suppression even though I'm on the lowest dose? Did anyone else see a major difference in their appetite straight away?

Yes, I did. It worked straight away for me, which I am very greatful for. Been on it since end of September and lost 5 stone. Highest I made it to was 10mg and that was only for a month and I came back down us the higher dose didn't suit me. Currently on 7.5mg and roughly 7 to 10 pounds from goal weight of bmi 22. Don't be tempted to move up the doses too soon, stay low until you feel it is not working any more. Concentrate on eating a healthy balanced diet, at least 2 litres of water a day, if not more, and exercising to the extent that is appropriate to your fitness level. You should then get less loose skin and also be more likely to keep the weight off after. Good luck 😀

Yes I’m still on 2.5 just done my 12th today :)

ForLoveNotMoney · 14/07/2025 20:26

I did. I lost 3 stone on 2.5mg. Tried to go up to 5mg and felt awful so stuck to 2.5mg. Fingers crossed it works like this for you too.

TheChosenTwo · 14/07/2025 20:28

Yes pretty much instantly. I took it on a Saturday night and Sunday brunch I managed about 2 mouthfuls forced down. I had to make such a conscious effort to eat but you have got to get something inside you!

I think most people experience this.

but just be aware that sensation doesn’t last - the strongest side effects I had were on 2.5mg & 5mg. I don’t get appetite suppression at all now, and I went up to 15mg, lost the weight & sometimes take MJ for maintenance. Your body gets used to it and you can tolerate more food.

I had my first this morning too and hardly managed anything, had loads of water though. Right now I have a slight burning feeling in my tummy. Hope it passes by the morning.

RatherTardy · 14/07/2025 21:02

Yes.
I was very pleased.

magicpant · 15/07/2025 07:53

Yes it worked straight away. It took about 8 weeks for it to settle into a good dose for me tbh. I hated the feeling of suppression and having to force myself to eat. I was barely managing to get 800 calories in for about 4 weeks then it started to become easier. 8 months later, 6 stone down, still on 2.5mg with a good appetite vs control balance.

Incognitoburrito88 · 15/07/2025 08:04

Yes. I took my first dose at 6am and didn’t eat until 2pm that day! I’m on wk 15 now and have titrated up to 3.75mg. I don’t struggle to get my daily calories in - haven’t ever I don’t think… but I couldn’t manage a full meal in a restaurant on Saturday night. I think it’s important to have at least a loose meal plan and to try and make sure you get a minimum number of calories in (I try not to go under 1000). If you follow your ‘hunger’ you may end up underrating as the signals might not be there. Good luck with your journey.

2.5mg which I’m still on after 4 weeks gave me suppression from the day after jab. Week 5 now and I’m still struggling to meet my calorie goal. I just don’t want to eat and feel full after a few mouthfuls. Drinking plenty and having protein shakes when I can but I’m going to contact my provider as I don’t want to continue feeling like this x

PurpleChrayn · 15/07/2025 17:24

Yep! I’m doing another month on 2.5mg before going up to 5. The effects were instantaneous for me.

WeepingInASunlitRoom · 15/07/2025 17:38

Yes, I found the first couple of weeks hard due to the intense and immediate suppression and I was very tired - probably as it was difficult to eat enough. A year later I am still only injecting 3.75mg (I managed a few months on 5mg but side effects were too bad) and my hunger and appetite levels feel very normal. I'm not uncomfortably suppressed, I am hungry for meals and eat sensible portions. I hated the feeling of full suppression but that didn't last long. Oh and I've lost five stone!

spottydinosaur · 15/07/2025 19:21

First dose last month on a Sunday night and barely ate until
wednesday afternoon & was ravenous for the rest of the week. Put on 100g too.

WhineAndWine1 · 15/07/2025 19:23

Yeah I have had string suppression on each one. Looking back I wish I stayed on a lose does for longer

PearlsPearl · 16/07/2025 11:01

Yep it was pretty instant for me, I vaguely wondered if it was in my head but I know it wasn't because if I'd eaten that little pre-mj I'd have had a headache, stomach ache etc.. I could never physically tolerate feeling hungry. Whereas on the mj my body doesn't notice hunger at all anymore which I love.

I'm on week 8 and don't really know what 'suppression' is or meant to feel like but for me, I'm never really hungry, I just eat at meal times and a lot less than it used to be. I can't eat the portions I used to without feeling uncomfortably full, so maybe that's the suppression? I never eat breakfast or snacks anymore and I don't obsessively think about food like I used to.

SusanSometimes · 16/07/2025 15:33

Yes, I had suppression almost immediately after taking my first 2.5mg dose. I stayed on it for two months.

CoastalCalm · 16/07/2025 16:21

Yes but second time around it took til 7.5 to feel it

SweetChilliGirl · 17/07/2025 06:26

Yes, I did. I took 9 doses of 2.5mg, then 3 of 3mg and so far, 1 of 3.5mg. I've lost two stone and hope to lose another 1 to 1 and and 1/2

BlackCatGreyWhiskers · 17/07/2025 06:29

Yes - it was instant and very strong. I took two jabs and gave up. I went back on it 6 months later and the suspension wasn’t as intense at all.

ThinkingaboutMJ · 17/07/2025 06:33

Yes I had suppression and the full feeling when eating from the start. I have lost over a stone and a half in 8 weeks and I'm staying on 2.5, I don't think higher suppression would be good, I have to consciously decide to eat I rarely feel hungry and I've no symptoms at the moment so best to stay on the lowest dose.
