Couldn't accept today's delivery. Will it be OK tomorrow?

Sent from Simple Online Pharmacy via DPD.

I was on the train out for the day when I get the delivery notice. Rescheduled for tomorrow but wondering what DPD do with it / how they store it etc.

Sure I'm not the only one but couldn't find an answer online.

It will just be stored in their depot until it’s put back on the van. So normal room temperature. It all depends how it was packaged.

This is exactly why I will only pick up from my local pharmacy whereby it’s absolutely stored at the correct temperature.

I know this doesn’t help you but with current temperatures it’s something to consider during the summer months.

MissSophiaGrace · 13/07/2025 00:45

I cancelled an order last week for the same reason - I couldn't guarantee that I would be at home to take delivery.

In your position, I would be wary of using it due to the current temperatures. DPD will simply store it with all of the other parcels at the depot. The ice pack will have melted and who knows what temperature it will be inside the delivery van tomorrow.

I can only suggest that you contact your supplier and ask for advice.

I'd take the delivery and check the temperature. Mine comes packed with sufficient cold packs and insulation for 3 days. Don't worry about it until you have to. It'd be really obvious if it arrived warm.

Thank you for the replies.

I've managed to find the type of packaging they use and when I Google it says it keeps small items cool for 72h so fingers crossed.

I'll definitely be checking it properly when I receive it.

@Crunchymum
The packaging that Simple Online Pharmacy use
is 48hrs from dispatch. I had them send a replacement pen out when there was a delay with DPD a couple of months ago.

This was their reply email when I first asked…

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with your concerns.

We understand your concerns and want to reassure you that your medication is kept in controlled temperature conditions during delivery as it is packaged with ice packs. Please be assured that our temperature mapping exercises have found that your medication is still kept within the required temperature even if these have melted.

The packaging with ice packs ensures that your medication is kept cool at fridge temperatures for at least 48 hours.

Crunchymum · 13/07/2025 08:32

Eeek the countdown is on then.

They despatched Friday afternoon, delivery was meant to be yesterday between 11-12 (but I wasn't here all day) so here's hoping it comes early today.

It's my only real criticism of Simple Online Pharmacy but having no say in the delivery date is annoying. Usually I can tweak things / WFH but yesterday I was already on the train when I recieved the delivery notification!!

Well I think I have a problem!!

Pen has arrived and it's not cold. Ice packs are barely cold to touch.

I've sent an email so fingers crossed they reply in time as I need to use this new pen this week (they made me wait 4 days to get the price match code as I usually order earlier!)

Have had a few issues with this order actually so maybe it's time to move elsewhere 🤔

I use oushk you can choose your delivery day

mindyourhead78 · 13/07/2025 11:50

As long as your pen is clear and not cloudy or discoloured they say it's safe to use

TheChosenTwo · 13/07/2025 11:53

I use them for the same reason @mindyourhead78 .
I don’t store mine in the fridge anyway, check - if the liquid is cloudy contact your provider and send a photo, request a replacement.

chicola · 13/07/2025 11:59

It’ll be fine. I expect the ice will have melted but it should still be cool.

Time4changeagain · 13/07/2025 12:22

@Crunchymum It will probably be fine if you are starting the pen straight away

I don't inject until later in the week unfortunately.

But is the liquid clear or cloudy @Crunchymum ? If clear your provider will tell you it’s safe to use, if not then discard.

Crunchymum · 13/07/2025 12:42

Just opened it up and it's clear so that's something I guess.

Thank you.

CatsorDogsrule · 13/07/2025 12:56

It was received within 48 hours of despatch and the ice packs were still cool to the touch, so it won't have got hot, which is the worry. I wouldn't be concerned at all.

SilenceInside · 13/07/2025 13:12

It’s fine to use within 30 days as long as it wasn’t 30 degrees or higher. Which is unlikely as it did have the ice packs whilst in transit.
