Did you go up in dose every month?

Curious as to how others have managed going up in Mounjaro doses or whether you’ve stayed on the same dose?

I did 1 month on 2.5mg and I’ll soon be ending my second month on 5mg. I’m contemplating whether to go up to 7.5mg or not. I’d say on 5mg I’m mostly ok but it definitely wears off by around day 4 and I find myself thinking about food more. It’s still manageable and I can say no but wondering if this is a sign that it’s time to push it up a dose.

My losses have been about average - 12lbs over 8 weeks but some weeks I gain 1/2lb (despite being in calorie deficit, eating 1200 cals a day).

Anyway, how have you managed it and also, if you did increase, what made you think it was time?

I didn’t, no. It is now recommended to stay on a dose until it is no longer working for you.

I did 4 weeks on 2.5 and then found the food noise came back so went to 5. I stayed on 5mg for 20 weeks and again, only moved up because of food noise. I have only ever moved for that reason as I am a wimp and cannot bear that internal battle! 😂

9 weeks on 7.5 and am now in my 23rd week on 10mg. I am at goal so am planning on moving down at the end of this pen.

I think in your situation, with food noise kicking back in around day 4, I would probably move up.

KnewYearKnewMe · 11/07/2025 20:28

I’ve been on it for 9 months and am still at 7.5mg - lost 4.5 stone now.

I’ll be heading up toward 10mg soon as I’ve plateaued on 7.5 for while (which has been fine). I’ll do that by going up to 8.5/9mg first to limit the risk of bad side effects.

magicpant · 11/07/2025 20:30

No i didn’t. I have done 8 months on 2.5mg so far

CurlsandCurves · 11/07/2025 20:32

I found this useful.

Did you go up in dose every month?
ShrankLastWinter · 11/07/2025 20:33

I’m still on 7.5mg after 7 months, but I split the dose so inject half twice a week to have more even effects.

holjam · 11/07/2025 21:03

I did first month on 2.5 and then went to 5. Now on my second pen of 5 and I’m planning to stay on this until I stall/not losing anymore.

PurpleCoo · 11/07/2025 21:04

I have taken 22 injections and still on 5mg. I did 6 weeks on 2.5mg, then over 4 weeks increased gradually to 3.75mg, where I did 5 weeks I think. Just took my 8th dose of 5mg today.

When I stop losing for several weeks, or find my appetite has increased to the point where I can't stick to calories regularly (we all have the odd hungry day and eat extra that's fine), I'll go up to 6.25mg until that dose stops working

Mumjaro · 11/07/2025 21:07

I've just ordered my second pen and told myself I'd stay on 2.5 and do more exercise - I can't bear to go up as the reflux is absolutely insane (hernia). Hoping if I can lose weight hernia will improve and then I can titrate up. In Week 3 now and not seeing as much suppression as before ALREADY, so that's a worry! Friend is doing 3.75 I think somehow! Only lost 3lb so far in the first 2 weeks! :(

holjam · 07/08/2025 20:38

I’ve done first month on 2.5 then moved to 5mg. I’m on my 3rd 5mg pen now but struggling massively with hunger this week and still have 3 more doses to take. I’ve hit a bit of a stall too as gaining and losing the same pound for the past 2 weeks. I’m moving to 7.5mg on my next order.

Branleuse · 07/08/2025 20:42

I haven't. I am 3 months in and still on 5mg.

Scarlettpixie · 07/08/2025 21:16

I have done 2 pens on each dose and just about to start my 3rd pen of 12.5.

JabbaJibba · 07/08/2025 23:16

Week 22 and still on 2.5 and have lost 52lb

Deadringer · 08/08/2025 00:27

I did 4 months at 5mg but the last week or so I feel that it's wearing off a bit so I am going to move up to 7.5 now.

usedtobeaylis · 08/08/2025 00:28

I stayed on 5mg for a little bit longer and then stayed on 7.5mg for 12 weeks. I've only just gone up by the tiniest amount to 8mg. I like to still feel hunger and to have a bit of willpower but I was struggling a bit more at the end of the week - but didn't want to jump up to 10mg as I fear the full appetite suppression. I just try and do what feels right.

I order a pen up though as when I was still on 5mg but getting ready to go up I had to wait. I just ordered the 12.5mg despite the fact I was still taking 7.5mg - always space to them move if if needed without having to wait til the next pen.

Sampler · 08/08/2025 06:50

I’ve stayed on max 3.75mg coming up to a year now after being on 2.5mg to start with and I have lost 3.5 stone and am close to goal. I had a BMI of 30 to start with.
I can live my life around the med fairly easily now and there are periods of feeling hungry but I find it balances out, I don’t panic as the suppression comes in waves and some days I’m fine. I’ve learned throughout this year not to panic if I feel hunger anymore.

Giraffepaint · 08/08/2025 07:10

I am on week 38, have lost 52lbs or 23kg. I am half way to healthy BMI.

I took 2.5mg for 10 weeks and have slowly titrated up to 4mg .
Minimal side effects. Weight loss might be slower than others but it’s not a race and I am mindful that the slower I lose, the less chance of loose skin.

However, it’s not about me, it’s about you….
listen to your body - if by day 4 suppression is low and food noise has returned, you either need to up the dose or have strong willpower.

Marylou2 · 08/08/2025 07:18

I did a month of 2.5mg and 2 months of 3.75mg. Moved up to 5mg for 3 months and still there. I have 5lbs left to go until my target weight. My suppression is still great on 5mg so will do another month and then try 2.5mg for maintenance. I think your body definitely tells you what's needed and I'd rather go slowly than move up and experience side effects or struggle to eat at all.

Dutchhouse14 · 08/08/2025 07:38

I had 2.5mg for one month, moved to 5mg second month and stuck to 5mg third month, trying to decide whether to go up to 7.5mg for next pen - 4th month) but I've started to have diarrhea and sulphur burps on days 2-4 so not sure if I really want to risk 7.5 but weight loss is very slow, about 1-2lb a week, and it will fluctuate during week, cycle of gaining and lose same 1lb or 2 over the week but is generally going down. Surpession is OK but definitely wanes by day 5. I'm menopausal and 5"1 so tbf losing weight is bloomin brutal as barely need any calories even to stay the same weight:(

HappyWineDay · 08/08/2025 08:53

It seems I'm an outlier but I did a month on 2.5mg, moved to 5mg for pen 2 and am just about to start 7.5mg for pen 3.
The current Eli Lilly patient sheet says stay on 2.5 for four weeks as a starting dose then move to 5mg as a maintenance dose. After 4 weeks on 5, decide with your healthcare practitioner whether to move up or not.
I spoke with my practitioner and we agreed 7.5mg was appropriate for me.

HappyWineDay · 08/08/2025 09:01

Slobbert · 08/08/2025 00:07

It is now recommended to stay on a dose until it is no longer working for you.

Who is recommending this, why and since when?

The Ely Lilly patient leaflet says four weeks on 2.5mg, then four weeks on 5mg. Then consult your healthcare practitioner before moving to 7.5mg.
It goes on to say stay on each subsequent dose for at least four weeks, and staying on this, moving up if your practitioner recommends it as being needed.
So they don't say to move up each month until you reach the maximum dose. Mind you, they don't say to try intermediate increments of your own either.

LittleNoosh · 08/08/2025 09:24

I have moved up each month. I’m just one of those people it doesn’t affect as strongly.

2.5ml had strong side effects for three days after each jab. Had small suppression of food noise and feeling fuller.

so went up to 5ml after 4 weeks.

5ml had strong side effects few days after first few jabs but lessoned go just nausea for day or two after jabs three and four. Again mild suppression effects and didn’t touch the week before my period.

So went up to 7.5ml after four weeks.

Had mild nausea day after first two jabs but nothing else and no noticeable improvement in suppression especially in week before period.

Honestly though, after the first week I felt like I might as well have been injecting water, it was so weird the lack of suppression or side effects.

Moved up to 10ml last week. Initial signs are a bit more hopeful as was the week before my period and I felt like there was a bit of suppression taking place (hurrah).

And on the positive side no side effects whatsoever.

I might not be normal but what I’m trying to show is not to fear going up a dose if you feel you need to. You can always step back and reduce your dose from the 7.5ml pen if you change your mind. And I had far worse side effects on the lower doses in early months than I get on higher dose later on.

It’s not a given side effects will continue or worsen with doses.

Fatmumslim01 · 08/08/2025 09:28

I did 5 weeks on 2.5, 2 weeks on 3.75, 11 weeks on 5mg, 1 week on 5.83, 1 week on 6.25 and am about to start my second week on 7.5. in 20 weeks I've lost 29 pound and BMI gone from 40 to 34 🙂

ViolaPlains · 08/08/2025 11:37

I started in May 24 and went up monthly. If I was to do it again I’d stay on doses as long as I could.

Thanks @HappyWineDay

The EL PL also doesnt say 'stay on the same dose until it no longer works for you' - which is what the PP claimed is what 'they' are now recommending.
