Worried about side effects, when should I start mounjaro?

I've made the decision to start mounjaro. I'm 42, perimenopausal and really struggling to lose weight. I've put on 4 stone in about 4 years. The weight just crept up after my marriage breakdown and I hate the way I look now. I've got terrible back pains, my feet always hurt, I can't run around after my children and I'm hoping this might help me to get back on top of my eating.

My worry is the side effects. I've read that a lot of people get sickness & diarrhoea to begin with and I'm worried about being at work! My desk is miles away from the loos and I can't take any time off easily. How soon after the first injection did people get side effects. If I injected on a Friday after work would I be ok by the Monday or should I wait until I can take some holiday from work before starting?

I didn’t get any side effects until week 5. And then it was manageable and short lived.

As it happens, your idea of injecting Friday evening would likely mean that the medication is at its peak on a Monday morning. So if you did get gastric side effects it might be on a Monday. So perhaps inject on a Thursday for the peak to be at the end of the week? The medication takes between 8 and 72 hours to peak in your system.

I’ve jabbed 41 times and not had any side effects, apart from being cold, which went away when the weather got warmer.

Please be careful about what you read online, there’s a lot of scaremongering about. There are a large proportion of us that haven’t had any side effects at all.

You could inject on a Friday evening so that you sleep through the worst of it and have the weekend to recover before going back to work on Monday.

If you do have side effects, they usually diminish over time. Eat clean, drink loads of water. Read the leaflet, follow the guidance.

I’m 7st 9lbs down now, best thing I’ve ever done in my life. Good luck to you.

Thank you, that's really useful to know how long it takes to peak after injection

Are you me?

I have also jabbed 41 times and never had any side effects except being cold 😂

Thats really reassuring to hear that lots of people haven't had side effects.

Wow that's an amazing loss, are you close to your goal weight? I'm hoping to lose around 5 stone in total, I feel as though I don't recognise myself in the mirror anymore and need to do something to make a change.

I’ve been on it 10 weeks and lost 2 stone 4lb - no side effects what so ever! I feel great and feel like I’ve got bags of energy!

That's an amazing loss in that time scale.

I'm really quite excited about starting as I hope it will be life changing if I can manage to lose the weight. I just feel a bit nervous after reading lots of stories about side effects

I’ve been jabbing 13 month and my side effects have also been minimal. Definitely felt really cold through the winter! I’ve had a slight headache two days after the jab a few times too but that’s all

There are probably more reports of people getting side effects than reports of people who don't - after all, if everything is ok, there is nothing much to say. I've been using MJ since last September and the only side effects I have had are a bit of constipation - easily dealt with, and feeling colder than usual, though that could be because I have less 'padding' rather than the drug itself. Good luck.

Yes I think that's likely to be the case, if they don't have any major side effects they don't have anything to report.

I'm taking some leave from work in two weeks so I think I'll start taking it as soon as I'm home from work on the Friday just in case

I've taken the plunge and have today placed my order for my first dose. I've gone with asda for now as I wanted to be able to collect from a pharmacy rather than having it delivered as I'm staying with family for a bit and I don't want them to know.

I've uploaded all of my photos and now just have to wait for it all to be reviewed by their Dr's. How long does that normally take? I'm excited but very nervous
