I have a feeling my journey has to end

I have been on mj since March, I have managed to lose three stone, 20kg which I'm so over the moon with

I have an under active thyroid and I am coeliac (only diagnosed late last year) so loosing weight was always a challenge for me

After reaching for the pepto bismol, I realised I have had this bottle open for 4 days due to non stop sickness
I don't want to directly blame mj for anyone that is due to start but there are 6 other people in my household so its not a bug, I don't currently work so I haven't mixed with anyone outside of my house

But I can't go on like this, I have thrown up everything I've ate or drank in the last four days, I'm starving and thirsty

Going to contact my provider but I fear they will say to stop the treatment. The only other thing I can think of is changing my injection site as I've always used my belly

Any other advice please?

Go down a dose? You can also delay your next dose for a few days as well as reduce it.

If you haven't been drinking properly you are at risk of consequences from dehydration - do you have any dioralyte or similar to take?

2025mj · 05/07/2025 07:36

I have been on 7.5 for three weeks now so its weird its only just affecting me
I don't have anything like that but I will get some
I don't know how to stop the sickness, I'm having small sips of water but it just comes back up, sipping on an ice cube it comes back up
Even swallowing my own saliva its coming back up 😔

@2025mj at the third week your at the highest level of medication in your system ( according to the Shotsy app) so makes sense with timing of side effects. Not pleasant but maybe ride it out and go down a dose for next dose or pen!

stayathomer · 05/07/2025 07:46

Could it not be a bug though? Even if others don’t have it? If it’s only the past four days it seems random

Merluzzo · 05/07/2025 07:48

I would try going down a dose like PPs have said. I was sick as a dog for 3 weeks when I went up to 5mg so moved down to 3.75 and I’ve been doing okay since then.

It would be such a shame to stop after you’ve done so well, 3 stone is incredible. Do you have much more weight to lose?

SilenceInside · 05/07/2025 07:51

If you haven’t been able to keep any water down for 24 hrs or more you need to get some medical advice as dehydration can become serious.

TheBig50 · 05/07/2025 07:52

That sounds awful. I was vomiting on 7.5, from nowhere, no warning - usually liquids - stomach can't take any more, let's projectile everywhere.
I changed providers and went up to 10 (because I thought I had to??) and am on week 7 of 10.
It's been bliss! Until Wednesday when it happened again. No warning, sip of squash, everything out!

I'm lucky enough to be able to go to bed when I want and rest. I didn't have anything until my stomach actually rumbled (remember that?!). For 2 days I just had what you'd normally have with sickness... A nibble on some dry toast, a nibble on a biscuit. Anything dry.

The only correlation I noticed was that it was always on day 3 when the medication is reaching it's peak (both with 7.5 and 10). I'm going to be extra careful on those days.
Also I was drinking a lot of liquid, I think too much and it wasn't being digested, just glugging around.

Lay off the pepto if you can as it reduces stomach acid, so in turn digestion. I'd taken an omeprazole this last time as I knew I didn't feel right. I think that was a big mistake.

Aw, sorry can't be more help, I hope you feel better soon!

2025mj · 05/07/2025 08:09

I managed to keep a frube down yesterday (basically kids yoghurt)
It could be a bug but usually everyone would have been struck down by now

I don't want to stop as I already have another 7.5 pen waiting
But I'm struggling to parent my children like this, I'm also really worried about my teeth with being constantly sick

Not taking the full amount and changing sites might be the help I need

Isn’t this how people lose weight?

I had the gastric sleeve years ago and I lost weight because I physically couldn’t eat. It hurt. Any time I managed to eat something I would get diarrhoea. I then lost my gall bladder and lost even more weight. I legit looked like a meth addict. I would bruise just from lying down because I had no body fat.

There is a dark side to rapid weight loss.

SilenceInside · 05/07/2025 08:22

@Muffinmamno this isn’t how people lose weight. This is an issue that needs addressing and isn’t something that needs to be tolerated.

No, absolutely not. I've also lost 3 stone on Mounjaro and never had a moment's sickness, I've lost it through eating plenty of good, whole foods with plenty of protein, fibre and fats.
This is not a normal level of side effect, and certainly nothing that is 'needed' in order to lose weight on Mounjaro.

2025mj · 05/07/2025 09:16

No its definitely not normal, and I feel dreadful
Ive never had this sort of reaction before
I managed to have cereal this morning so thats something

20kg is a crazy amount of weight
I was 6st overweight and it took me 9 or 10 months

i am not sure why you moved up a dose given how incredibly effective the lower dose was.

Separately those side effects would be too extreme for me you are basically starving which is not good for your health.

The lower dose wasn't effective
My weightloss has stalled for three weeks
I haven't starved myself at all I'm not sure where you are getting that idea from

I am sorry you are not feeling well, and I hope you are on the mend!

But 20kg since March is very rapid weight loss. I'd almost say your lower doses were very effective? I would have stuck around on the lower doses a bit longer - it is normal for weight loss to slow for a few weeks before picking up again.

If you don't want your journey to end, wait until you are completely better and drop down a dose? Speak to your provider first.

Unless you started in march 24…I get that idea from information you supplied

assuming you started 5th March it’s 4 months
1kg is 7700 cal deficit
20kg is 154,000 cal deficit

you stalled for 3 weeks so in 13 weeks approx you had a 154k cal deficit
which is a 1,692 deficit per day…
even assuming you lost it over 16 weeks it’s 1,375 cal deficit.

assuming you need 2000 per day you are eating 300-600 cals per day on info supplied…

I would lent say 3 weeks flat after so much weight loss is a plateau…
I’d stick at 5mg and clean up your nutrition.
the side effects aren’t worth it

2025mj · 05/07/2025 12:02

I've logged all my food since I started and most days I'm having 1,200 a day. Not that its any of your business

Try cutting out dairy for a couple of weeks. My daughter has coeliac disease and dairy can sometimes cause her bloating and stomach pain.

PermanentTemporary · 05/07/2025 21:45

Please talk to the doctor at your provider.

When this happened to me they advised me to stop injecting for 2 weeks and then restart on a lower dose. But get the prescribers advice.

lemoncrisp · 05/07/2025 22:33

Injection site makes a difference. I inject my thighs but on one occasion did my stomach .....never again!!! Nausea/vomiting was dreadful. Still get a bit of nausea most weeks for a day or so but it's manageable.
I started in Feb, lost 2 stone so far and nearly down to my target weight of 9 stone 7.

TourangaLeila · 05/07/2025 22:41

@2025mj your doctor or MJ prescriber can support with anti sickness medication. Please don't suffer in silence.

Mind blown
I have actually noticed my sickness is worse after milk or yoghurt

I’m so sorry that you’re feeling so unwell.

It’s not weird that you are now experiencing these side effects. The drug is at the highest level that it has ever been in your body.

Stop the pepto-bismol. Replace with electrolytes such as dioralyte. It is vital that you rehydrate and if you physically cannot keep anything down at all then you may need to be rehydrated via IV.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 06/07/2025 11:43

Do you understand now that after your third injection of 7.5mg you will have the highest amount of the drug in your system that you’ve ever had? So it’s not weird that side effects kick in at this point.

Call 111 if you continue not to be able to keep water down. And when things have settled go down to a lower dose. You could count the clicks and try 6mg for example. Your provider won’t be able to advise you to do this as it is not the official Eli Lily schedule, but many people are finding they need to take it slower than the official jumps in dose.

I have been on 7.5 for three weeks now so its weird its only just affecting me
I don't have anything like that but I will get some

It’s not as weird as you think. The medication builds up in your system over the weeks so your third week of 7.5mg won’t just mean you only have that dose in your system.

It was my 3rd week of trying 5mg that put me in A&E as I felt so ill. Nothing wrong other than the jump from 2.5 to 5 was too high too quickly for my system so I dropped back down to 2.5for a month then crept up in 1ml stages. A year later and I’m still only on 6.5mg -7mgs dose and loosing weight slowly. Id say don’t give up. Go back to 2.5 for a month then creep up the doses very slowly.
