No weight loss on Mounjaro?

Dinkymummy · 03/07/2025 18:53

Hi all. I am week 6 and on dose 5mg. I have had very few side effects but also no weight loss at all. Has anyone else experienced this?

The 5mg has definitely diminished my appetite but I have just maintained my weight rather than lost. I have 7st to lose to reach my BMI. Will moving up a dose help?

I would be grateful of your experiences and reassurance that I’m not a lost cause!

Are you tracking calories? As you won't lose weight if you're not monitoring what you're eating. That should be your starting point.

Sugardown · 03/07/2025 18:59

so you’ve had a diminished appetite. But you don’t say whether that’s actually translated in to you eating less?

Lilyflame · 03/07/2025 19:01

That’s unusual
how many calories are you aiming for?
moving up dose won’t help if there’s no actual calorie deficit

Dinkymummy · 03/07/2025 19:04

I have been using my fitness pal to track calories and if anything some days I am struggling to eat much at all. I’m aiming for 1200.

Also haven’t had any appetite for junk food either. Craving apples instead. Clearly I am doing something wrong though.

Are you measuring and weighing everything scrupulously when entering it into MyFitnessPal? It’s also worth checking the stats are accurate for the ingredients you’ve used on MFP as well.

16wimb · 03/07/2025 19:08

6 weeks at 1200 calories and no weight loss would have me at the GP. The MJ won’t prevent weight loss, so something else must be

Lookwhoseinsideagain · 03/07/2025 19:08

Are you actually weighing and measuring things to track them? Packaging isn't always accurate, and on higher calorie items a 10g variance in weight can make a big difference.

Are you also making sure you're tracking everything (even that left over sandwich crust on the kid's plate, the pinch of cheese you steal while grating it etc!).

If you are doing the above, how active are you, and can you increase that level?

Motnight · 03/07/2025 19:10

What's your calorie intake?

Shmoigel · 03/07/2025 19:11

You need lots of protein. That’s where the weight loss happens!

JustPinkFinch · 03/07/2025 19:18

I'd say this is a logging issue and you are eating/drinking more than you think you are. Which is very easily done to be fair.

Personally aswell, if I don't exercise (brisk walking is fine) for at least an hour daily, my scales don't shift.

Sugardown · 03/07/2025 19:20

Take us through what you were eating pre MJ and now on an average day?

what’s your movement like?

ThumbTowers · 03/07/2025 19:32

My weight loss has been very slow on mounjaro. It's disheartening when the posts are all about 5 stone lost in 3 months and other such dramatic weight loss stories. I have been on MJ for about 12 weeks and lost 10 pounds. So it has been very slow compared to others. And I have a LOT to lose. To lose nothing at all is unusual but not unheard of, I don't think. I think you need to continue up the doses for a bit before you decide that it's not working.

Don’t be disheartened. 1lb a week is healthy, sustainable weight loss. I lost more at first and that worried me as I don’t want to lose muscle.

Dinkymummy · 03/07/2025 21:43

Thanks for your replies all. I am going to try and be extra vigilant with calorie intake. Exercise is a challenge because I have mobility issues, hence giving MJ a go. I will update!

I'm on week 5 and have only lost 2kg. I know that's not the same as you as I have at least lost something. But that's with feeling sick all the time and being in calerie deficit. Between 10k-15k steps a day min so not inactive, I'm on my feet most of the day.

I've started having a meal replacement shake for lunch. This is because I wondered if I wasn't eating enough as I didn't want anything during the day. It also then adds in some of the nutrients I was missing.

One thing I've found is that drinking lots of water and having electrolytes has made me feel much more energetic and healthy.

Im about to go up to 5mg.

Have you literally lost nothing in 6 weeks?

Scarlettpixie · 04/07/2025 21:04

Try being vigilant with your calories, and weigh and measure everything that goes in your mouth. Measure milk in drinks and look at calories in drinks as some people just track meals and there can be a lot of hidden calories in drinks. Lots of us loose without exercise. A calorie deficit of 500 or more below maintenance calories should see results. Some people need to move up the doses because low dose MJ has no effect - as in they continue to have a big appetite and food noise but if you are only able to eat 1200 calories you should loose weight over a period of time. I don't loose every week but over time, I keep getting a lower number on the scales and am happy with that. I have been on it 8 months and lost 3 stone 2lb. Good luck.

Slimagain · 05/07/2025 14:17

I lost 5.5st on MJ over 8 months but bugger all in the first 8 weeks until I got to 7.5mg maybe a couple of kg at most.. turns out I am hugely insulin resistant from years of yo-yo dieting.. had my most significant losses at 10/12.5/15mg where I stayed for 3 months before titrating downwards for maintenance. Am maintaining on 7.5. At my happy place of 62kg at 5’7” so BMI 22.5 from 34.8 ..

Rockdaylia44 · 05/07/2025 17:51

I was on Mounjaro nearly 5 months, exercises, went to 7.5 1200 calories, lost about 5lbs, not worth the extortionate price for me. My GP told me for some reason's unknown it just doesn't work on some ppl, so upset and annoyed at all the money I spent.

MJ might not work for some people but a calorie defect over 4+ months absolutely does work. I’m surprised your GP wasn’t interested in investigating why you can’t lose weight. MJ won’t prevent weight loss, so something else did, I would be wanting that looked into.

JHPH · 07/07/2025 11:22

I’m thinking of using weight loss injections, but I’m really nervous of the side effects. I now many people use them and are fine, I’m I being irrational? It’s the hair loss that worries me, as I have thinner hair as it is. Also the nausea. Any advice please? I am looking at Mounjaro as they seem the most popular.

I’m a bit confused by your post. If you were on it for 5 months without loss and your top dose was 7.5 why didn’t you do what the protocol recommends and go up 2.5mg every 4 weeks until you get a decent suppression and satiety. At 7.5mg (12 weeks in I too had only lost a few pounds) . You have to keep increasing until it works. The vast majority of my 5st loss was from 7.5 -15mg.. I maintain on 7.5mg so like you I don’t lose on that dose.

If you have good reason to try the jabs, i.e obesity, diabetes etc, then I think it is worth trying them to see what you think and how well they work for you. If you have any side effects that you feel you can't handle, just stop taking them. I was nervous too, but I felt I had got to the point where it was the only thing left to try. I also have thin hair and am mindful of this side effect. So far, several months in, it is ok and I've had no noticeable hair loss and just feel slightly sick occasionally.

Not a thing yet. Going to keep at it and I have added in a shake at lunch to try and maintain nutrients etc incase I’m just not eating enough!
