Starting mounjaro, few questions

Received my pen today, thinking of taking first does on Thursday night? To stop me binging on weekends going forward.

I have a few questions if anyone can help please, I have googled it but want answers from real people’s experience.

I keep seeing talk of needing to take electrolytes, is this necessary? And if so can anyone recommend some that isn’t expensive as I’m already on a budget. How often do I need to take them?

is a multi-vitamin also required? If so is store bought ones ok? Ie Asda?

Where is the best site to do the injection? Im thinking stomach?

thanks

I’ve been taking Mounjaro for almost a year now and I’ve never taken electrolytes. I’d only consider it if I’d been unwell with D&V and not been able to keep anything down for a while. Thankfully not been in that position.

I have always taken a multivitamin. It’s probably useful for any restricted calorie diet just in case, although a varied diet should address your vitamin and mineral needs. An Asda one would be fine.

The best site for the injection is whichever one suits you. I’ve always done stomach, for some reason I don’t like the thought of doing it in my thigh and I’m fairly sure I couldn’t do my arm without help!

I’ve been on mounjaro just over 6 months and have never taken electrolytes, I take a probiotic every day and also magnesium at night. That’s it.
Ive only ever injected the stomach area, I just rotate in a clock face direction. Good luck

I've taken MJ since February and just make sure I keep hydrated.

FoxRedPuppy · 24/06/2025 21:25

I do stomach. I don’t take a vitamin, but I have approx 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, so I’m not too worried.

I’ve only ever taken electrolytes on long runs when training for a marathon.

I don’t use electrolytes, have experienced some upset stomach’s but nothing major. I inject in my thigh.

Thanks all. I think I will hold off on the electrolytes. I am terrible at drinking water so will really need to push myself to make sure I am drinking enough.

thinking of injecting stomach myself.

fingers crossed I don’t get too many side effects.

does anyone else inject on a Thursday night? Do you feel ok?

I’ve been taking it since September, lost 5 stone and never taken electrolytes.

Day: I do mine Thursday evening because I picked it up from the chemist Thursday afternoon. Honestly if you find a day doesn't work well for you then you can push it forward or back a day the next week without issue.

multi-vit: I do, because there are some foods I’ve never eaten/liked so there are some things I don’t get via diet regardless of MJ, so I take a generic supermarket multi-vit just to try to round it out a bit.

Best site : I’ve always done belly, because the instruction said to pinch a bit of fat and inject there, I had lots and lots of fat on my belly so seemed like an appropriate spot, my legs have always been more lean. Never had any problems so just stuck with it.

from my experience, the most important things to remember are:

  • drink lots of water, about 2lts a day, I always notice a stall in loss when I forget to drink, it’s easy to let that habit slip but without water your body can’t break down fat, heal muscles and will retain what it has.
  • Eat enough food, calculate your TDEE and aim for 500 calories below that. You do not need to eat a stupidly low amount of of calories, I’ve consistently had 1400-1600 a day and consistently lost weight. If you eat too little you’ll feel rubbish, have low energy, have hair loss, muscle loss etc
  • Add in weights early, they help to improve your posture, metabolism, build muscle for a more toned and elongated look. You can pick up handweights on Facebook marketplace or in home bargains type shops really cheap. 3-5kg are good for starting at home and you don’t need to do anything fancy, I have a set under the kitchen table, and every time I make myself a Tassimo Latte I do squats and arm exercises while the machine is working, it’s like a price I charge myself. If I want a latte I need to pay for it.
  • Peotein and fat are good, they fill you up, they don’t spike your blood sugars and they help you prevent muscle loss. It doesn’t have to be complicated, most of my meals are slow cooker dump bag style meat and veg combinations or I just switch out the carb in family meals, so lasagna for them, hold back some of the meat in red sauce and make stuffed mushrooms for me, chicken & chips for them, chicken and roasted broccoli for me.

@InfoSecInTheCity thank you very much for the advice, it’s really helpful. I have spent hours researching threads on mounjaro the last few days and still feel like I don’t know enough so your post is helpful thank you

No need for electrolytes unless you have bad diarrhoea or are getting very sweaty on the gum regularly.

Any multivitamin is fine and only needed if your diet is very reduced.

Injection site is totally personal preference tbh. Try them and see which you prefer. Good luck!!

Literally, just stabbed myself with my 3rd week, again in my midriff area. Never been told I’d need electrolytes. I’m still struggling with eating - today I managed a small mixed meze at lunch and a fruit yoghurt tonight. I do need to do more exercise.
