Can I get 12.5mg from a 10mg pen?

Hello all,

Just a quick question, I've just started my second 10mg pen, which was probably a mistake as I noticed the 10mg wasn't as effective in the last week of my last pen.

I'm assuming I can do usual dose (60 clicks) and a further 15 clicks to make up the extra 2 5mg needed?

I took my 10mg dose yesterday, but not feeling the effect like I usually do today, so wanted to do another 15 clicks today.

I have plenty of needle heads and also syringes so can extract it.

But it is 15 clicks that would make up the extra 2.5mg? I just wanted clarification before I went ahead.

Yes, your calculations are correct, 15 clicks from a 10mg pen will give you 2.5mg.

Some people will remind you that you are meant to leave a certain number of days between injections.
But I have done the same as you, injected one day, realised I should have gone up a dose, topped up the next day and then left it a week before the next full dose.

It does take around 2-3 days to kick in fully for me usually so I wouldn't advise topping up next day. I've done it on day 4 before when a dose wore off or you can also take it more often, my prescriber suggested every 5 days when my 10mg wore off and this kick started my suppression again until I started 12.5mg.

Yes, 75 clicks in total (over two injections, I would probably do something like 45 + 30) or 0.75ml in a syringe/one injection.

Once you use a syringe once on the pen you will need to use syringes for the rest of the pen.

Alternatively which I have heard my provider recommending to patients (because providers will not condone adjusted doses) to do temporarily just until the end of a pen, and might be easier, is to inject every 5-6 days instead. This will increase the overall concentration in your body.

Yes I going to see how tomorrow goes, might go with the 10mg every 5 days if I feel it's not being as effective. I had this issue at 5mg, and regretted staying on the same dose for 2 months, you'd think I'd have learned my lesson 🙄
