Nervous to move up to 5mg..

Hi all! I will be due to start my 5mg dose on Mounjaro tomorrow evening. I’ve been doing 2.5 for the 4 weeks and have lost 1 stone exactly. but recently I’ve had zero suppression and the food noise has crept back in😩 I haven’t caved to the cravings but I found the suppression helpful to make better choices.

anyway, I bit the bullet and ordered 5mg. However, I have heard bad stories about the 5mg in regards to side effects like the nausea.. I’m thinking maybe to try 3.75mg first and see what happens?
anyone who moved up to 5mg and found the side effects were fine/managable ? TIA

I was fine on 5mg, I've gone up every pen and just finished 10mg and I'm fine. I'm just very proactive at avoiding constipation from the delayed gastric emptying so lots of fibre, lactulose if I need it, and probiotics like natural yoghurt or kefir to prevent sulphur causing bacteria in the stomach.

You hear about side effects all the time but you don't realise there's a silent majority who just have nothing to say because they're absolutely fine.

This is very helpful thank you!

Honestly when I started mounjaro I heard about people fainting all the time, pooing the bed. I was really nervous.

It's just been so boring for me. I'm just losing 1-2lb a week on average, I'm not counting calories and I'm just living a normal life.

Youdontseehow · 17/06/2025 08:52

@Laurthomx i went up to 5mg last Friday after 4 weeks on 2.5 with zero side effects.

Saturday morning I spent most of on the loo with diarrhoea!! Also a bit of tummy cramping, sweating and feeling a bit ill. I hadn’t eaten anything out of the ordinary so it may have been the MJ. It settled after about 5 hours and no other problems since then.

I’ve two days out this week on Friday and Saturday and I’m not sure what to do! Both are “special” events that I don’t want to cancel so I’m seriously considering just taking the next dose on Sunday after I get back from event number 2. But doing a 12 hour shift on Monday! Arrg.

Sorry this is probably not helpful! Interested to hear others experiences,

Why don't you use the remaining dose of your 2.5 for an extra week, that would be about 3.75mg ish.. then go to the 5.. thats what I did.. was fine..

Histoscientist · 17/06/2025 09:28

2.5mg lasted 2 weeks for me both satiety and suppression, I did the rest on will power incl bonus dose of 2.5mg with spare needle, before i knew about syringes. I was then scared to go up due to all the posts on side effects, so I did 3.75mg then was still hungry so 4 days after that topped up 1.25mg. Basically it was a waste as I was fine moving up to 5mg and got suppression and satiety back. I'm now on 12.5mg zero side effects throughout and not even constipation or burps to complain about! I was prediabetic and didn't know until a month ago so maybe that's why I can tolerate high doses easily.
I'd say just give it a go and see how you get on. Try to avoid common triggers like fatty greasy food and heavy carbs and drink plenty of water. I've not had pasta on over 8 months, pizza 3 times and it sits in stomach heavy.

MagnoliaTreePetals · 17/06/2025 09:43

From what you wrote @Laurthomx I think moving up is a good idea.

I second @Histoscientist advice re avoiding common triggers

I had a little bit of nausea and indigestion on 2.5, only for the first couple of days after injecting.
Moving up to 5mg was exactly the same. I made an effort to eat small portions, I didn't wait to start to feel full. I knew I could always have a snack later, but didn't need to.
I have always stuck to protein and vegetables, avoiding the triggers like fatty, carb heavy foods.
I am now a few months ahead on 10mg and I still get some intermittent indigestion/nausia on the first couple of days after injecting, but it fades and is well worth being nearly 4 stone lighter.
Every meal time I still have to remind myself to put less on my plate; decades of large platefuls (and second helpings) are habits that are hard to break!

2025mj · 17/06/2025 09:54

Honestly 5mg was such a waste for me, no suppression, had a wee bit of nausea the day I injected with some sulpher burps but 24 hours later they were gone.
Altho my weight loss is still going, it felt like injecting water

You may be okay OP 🤞

1-2lbs is still amazing mind! That’s what I’m aiming for as I don’t want the hair loss or anything from rapid weight loss 😩

That’s okay! I’ve heard worse but I want honest opinions so it all helps! 🙌🏻

4 stone is amazing! Should be so proud of yourself 💪🏻 my DH is quite rugby built so stocky and always always over portions my plate (well used too) but he’s doing better now with the portion control 😂😂

So strange how it effects everyone so differently ! Think I’m just going to try it and see as I never had any unpleasant side effects with 2.5mg I was really lucky ! So fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I went up to 5mg on Saturday and like you, was nervous. I stocked up on Pepto and electrolytes etc but I was absolutely fine. I’ve had a bit of heartburn after eating but a couple of Rennies sorted it.

I think as a PP said, don’t read the threads about SE and assume everyone is like that. I reckon there are far more people who aren’t and just silently get on with it.

Although I know 5mg doesn’t actually help you lose weight, I lost 6lbs in a month on 2.5mg but have lost 3lbs in my first few days on 5mg. I don’t want it to continue like that as I don’t want to lose too quickly but I was really encouraged by that.

My advice is to eat simply the day before (lots of protein and water) and chances are you’ll probably be absolutely fine.

This is true! Thank you for this🙌🏻 I got pepto but I’m going to stock up just in case 👀 I make it my mission to drink at least 2L a day of water, have to pee every 10 mins but I feel better overall!

I went up to 5mg start of June and absolutely no difference to 2.5mg except I had suppression for the full day. Steadily losing 2lb per week so very happy with that.

I will go up to 7.5mg next month to keep the suppression at the same level.

I think some of us are just able to tolerate it better than others.

Vatsallfolks · 18/06/2025 08:50

I’m another one of the fairly silent majority who has not really suffered side effects - except about 24hrs of constipation moving from 5-7.5 . I just used it exactly as prescribed , going up the doses every 4 weeks, (until I learned how to get the bonus dose out )so then extending to 5 weeks. Until I reached 15mg. Where I stayed for 5 months until goal. Then I just titrated down until the suppression subsided to a point where I can eat a sufficient amount of calories to maintain my weight without further loss. For me this is 7.5 mg.
Literally all the way up and back down again nothing except that one day of constipation.

Laurnor · 20/10/2025 09:55

What supplements do you take to keep everything moving as it should ?
