Stuck in a food rut

My work pal commented on my lunch today (she wasn't being sarky, we're genuine friends) and I realised I've had the same breakfast and lunch every day for about 4 months!

My other meals are repetitive too and I wonder if that's why I'm not losing much (2 stone down since Feb, still about 3 stone to go!)

A typical menu for me is:

Breakfast:
A drink i make at home with frozen berries, almond milk and ice cubes whizzed up with a scoop of protein powder

Lunch:
Chicken (i cook a chicken on a Sunday and eat it for lunch every day) cucumber, radishes, tomatoes, bell pepper and sugar snap peas

Dinner:
A small portion of whatever I make for the family (today was hime made chilli con carne) with a repeat of the salad above

Snacks:
Strawberries, a handful of maltesers, water and coffees

Please critique my day or post yours!

It looks like a fab menu. I've eaten the same meals for 6 months, it's the best way to lose weight.

I've skipped breakfast, although I think I might join you on the protein shake!
Lunch has been protein yoghurt and high fibre cereal bars.
Dinner whatever we are having - curry, pasta, stir fry etc. I've been serving myself 50g rice, 60g of pasta for years. The difference is now I'm satisfied with it and sometimes with less (I leave some). Then more protein yoghurt and bars for pudding.
Keeping breakfast, lunch and snacks the same (or a small number of similar calorie choices) is a good way to do it and leaves a little bit of creativity for dinner.

2 stone loss in 4 months is on target for what they look for so head down and keep going. Re-evaluate your meal plan if you stop losing / put on. Perhaps the maltesers or other snacks or becoming bigger than a small handful? Congratulations! And I'm sure you'll lose the rest in no time!

I have greek yoghurt, bran flakes and berries or prunes at least 5 days a week. It's easy, it's good for me and I like it..

TheNinthLock · 17/06/2025 07:30

I am the same! I have greek yoghurt, flaxseed, chia seeds, a small scoop of flaked almonds and topped with fresh strawberries / raspberries or frozen cherries (depending on what I have in the house) every single day of the week. This is brunch.

Dinner is either a salad (always mixed leaves, chopped pepper, cucumber and cherry tomatoes, with red pepper humous and a sprinkle of seeds) or a smaller portion of what the family have.

Snacks are a square of dark chocolate, a dried apricot, an ice lolly made from orange juice, a glass of prune juice and teas and coffees. Plus 2L of water per day.

I am a simple beast :)

Maybe I'm not so odd then! It's frustrating not to be losing when I feel like I'm eating so well but I'll power on!

I bought prunes last night and snaffled a couple as I'm struggling with constipation 🙈💩

If you’re happy and not bored with what you’re eating, then crack on! It looks like a good range of nutrients to me.

Re: constipation, are you drinking enough water?

Re: constipation, are you drinking enough water?

Probably not if I'm honest. It's definitely a downfall. I'm a teacher so trying to get to the loo is a nightmare so I tend to restrict myself

I don't find it odd. It's hard to always calorie count, and I have a few foods/meals I do regularly so I know exactly the calories and I don't need to count as such. Much easier! Your meals are healthy and varied, so I don't see the problem.

morbidcuriosity · 17/06/2025 11:08

I have the prunes as I've been constipated a few times.. so try add stuff like prunes, kewi etc to try not to get bunged up..

But yeah if your happy eating the same stuff then don't listen to what others say..

If you have ever read any of the ‘what I ate today on mounjaro’ threads, you would have seen that I have pretty much eaten the same breakfast for about 6 months! 😂 Can’t stop, it’s delicious!

You are actually losing pretty well if you’re dropping about half a stone a month! Keep it up and you’ll be 6 stone down in a year!!
