I’m really grateful for this board as I’ve picked up quite a few good tips!

The few most helpful are:

  1. If you feel nauseous, have a snack anyway. It seems totally counterintuitive but it works every time.
  2. If you’re prone to constipation, take something every day whether you need it or not. Helps to keep things regular.
  3. If you’re having SE, they often pass once your body adjusts. Don’t be tempted to jack it in
  4. Use this as a ‘time out’ to learn new sustainable habits and oh, prioritise protein!

What are yours?

Mine was to just give them a go, I am so grateful to the posters who convinced me to try, if I could remember who they were I would send them flowers!

'Trust the process!'

Do the jabs, eat your dinner and crack on - sometimes you'll lose a chunk of weight, but other weeks you won't. Don't wobble and worry about it - just trust the process. It will all come good.

Electrolytes., and every single word from @Infosecinthecity

InfoSecInTheCity · 15/06/2025 17:22

Drink water, lots and lots of water.

Zebracat · 15/06/2025 17:22

See?

GiveMeWordGames · 15/06/2025 17:29

Pepto bismol for Sulphur burps! I would never have tried it otherwise because it's weird tasting and far too pink. 😁

See?

That is why we still need the funny emoji reaction thingy!

Redlightbulb · 15/06/2025 17:32

Set realistic expectations. Don’t be drawn into those on social media who lose a stone a month. Up to 2 lb a week is great. Safe & sustainable.

Donotgogentle · 15/06/2025 17:39

Start lifting weights so you don’t lose muscle along with fat.

What is SE?

This is my top one. So many people have lost the weight and are only now 6/8/10 months down the line thinking about doing this ‘to tone up’ - you should have been doing it all along!!!
But I was worries about losing muscle - we need it for strength and mobility as we get older and these are habits really worth developing as soon as possible if you didn’t pre MJ.

What is SE?

Side effects!

KentishMama · 15/06/2025 18:22

The best advice for me is to titrate up slowly, and don't move up a dose unless your current dose isn't working any more.

HansHolbein · 15/06/2025 18:25

Do your research beforehand and read the accompanying leaflet. Nothing is really a surprise then.

Yes, I think this is really good. I did a month on 2.5mg but in the last week I could see my calories slowly going up as I was feeling nibbly more and more. I’m glad I’ve moved to 5mg but I’ll stay here until I notice that I’m snacking more.

Eat lots of protein
Drink plenty of water
start weights early

xanthomelana · 15/06/2025 20:34

Don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone loses weight differently and although it’s disheartening when you see people losing it so fast just have patience and follow your own journey.

ShrankLastWinter · 15/06/2025 21:15

Do exercise

Eat protein (you feel full, you maintain muscle)

Deal with your anxiety

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 15/06/2025 21:28

I have to fast through nausea or I will get sulphur burps (although a daily probiotic has completely dealt with all gastrointestinal side effects for me).

At point 2 I hope you don’t mean taking a laxative every day, @threeeggsontoast?

Prioritise protein AND FIBRE. Many people have got the message about the former but not the latter.

I take a psyllium husk capsule every day. ☺️

Drink water and take the fibre and brace yourself for the constipation 😵

TheyCallMeStacey · 16/06/2025 20:10

Best advice I was given was to really look at what you are eating if you are struggling with SE. Some people can breeze through by eating normally albeit less quantity. Others need to go super cautiously and avoid high fat, hard to digest foods like red meat, dairy. Start with plain easy to digest foods and go from there. Prioritise protein and eat regularly whether you are hungry or not. If it is a meal time I will have something even if it is some houmous and crackers. Has definitely helped with headaches. I have electrolytes every day plus psyllium husk supplements, collagen supplements, and magnesium at night as I was getting leg cramps.
And drink as much water as you can, at least 3 litres a day.

piscofrisco · 17/06/2025 06:45

Take digestive enzymes. I’ve been on MJ since November and have lost two stone. Then only side effects I’ve had are feeling cold and a bit tired at times. I take digestive enzymes in tablet form daily and I think that’s saved me from the digestive issues I might have otherwise experienced.
