Has anybody legitimately been prescribed mounjaro with gallstones?

I went through the consultation, and have been declined. My GP record shows I had a gallstone in 2021, so they have declined it. I’ve genuinely had no further problems since then, but totally understand why they had to decline it.

In the decline message, it says to contact my GP as they may be able to put me on to a programme with more monitoring. This seems unlikely, given they don’t prescribe on the NHS (or so I understand).

I don’t want to do it if it’s deemed dangerous, it was just the suggestion from the supplier that it could be an option with more monitoring that got me wondering whether it was a possibility or not.

I’m also not after trying to get it funded from anywhere, I’m happy to fund myself, it’s just knowing whether it is a possibility, or an absolute no.

Who was the supplier?

Not the same but I had my gallbladder removed so technically don’t have gallbladder issues but can still develop them! But when I ordered on Asda it didn’t ask any questions about gallbladder issues which I was surprised about. So I ordered from there but spoke to my doctor beforehand

Yes, I've been taking mj for 5 months now. I have a history of gallstones and still have my gallbladder. Although mine was not as recent as yours.

Oushk, superdrug, Numan, and pharmacy2u have all prescribed with no problem.

No issues with gallstones either.

That’s great, thank you both very much. I’ll try one of those suppliers.

The supplier I tried was Chemist4U.

I’ll give those others a try now, thank you x

It's not in simple online pharmacy's exclusion criteria.

They're really cheap because they price match to discount codes.

I've heard of loads of people getting it through oushk with gallstones too though.

Good luck!!

Try pharmulous too.

They're run by a GP.

Also depends on your address but there's a pharmacy in my GP surgery and they were reasonably priced and they can liaise with your GP for advice.

Although depends how they prescribe mounjaro. If they prescribe on a PGD the PGD might not allow it.

Good luck though!

Surely this medication helps prevent gallstones?

I was told rapid weight loss can cause gallstones which is why I checked with the GP first as I DO NOT want that experience again!

Yep exactly!

Lumpi · 15/06/2025 21:09

You just have to be careful not to lose weight too fast and keep track of your fat intake.

I guess as long as your cautious and don't fly up the doses if seems it's OK for some suppliers? I had niggling pain and lots of tests for gallstones years ago. None was ever found but I was told they don't always show up on ultrasound. I have had that same feeling a few times since starting monj. I just decided to avoid anything fried. Anything fatty it's two tablespoons max. Ie keep it central in your mind. Gallstones seems like your dammed whatever you do re weight. My gp was informed and I think they mostly are. Do you have extra backup of the nhs overriding the final call too which is reassuring.

I have a silent gallstone and Asda prescribed me Mounjaro.

Thank you everybody for the help and advice. I filled in an online consultation last night with Oushk, and although they haven’t yet formally approved it, I can see on my account that they’ve sent a letter to my GP to say they have, and asked if there’s any concerns from their side. So fingers crossed it’ll get approved.

That’s really helpful advice on not increasing the doses too quickly. I read similar online last night too, so I’ll definitely keep that in the forefront of my mind, and also keep fatty foods at a minimum.
