Going away to see my parents. I don’t want to tell them I’m on MJ (too many unsolicited advice!) so won’t be able to put the pen in the fridge.
I still want to keep it cold/cool (Theyre living in the south of france. It’s already over 30oC)

Any advice on rechargeable cooling bag? The ones I’ve found are … well more expensive I’d hope (over £100)

I often put face cream and stuff in the fridge when it’s boiling outside. Could you take a little make up pouch and put that in the fridge with some things in + the MJ?

or say it’s your HRT? (If you’re that sort of age)

SilenceInside · 10/06/2025 16:53

There’s the Frio wallet which will keep it under 30 degrees, but not super cold. But that would be ok as it’s a pen that’s in use, so room temp (under 30degrees) is fine.

HRT is normally a patch isn’t it? (And yes I’m off that age!)
But I could try and find a med that needs to be refrigerated that won’t arouse too many questions.

I don’t and have never used face cream so that’s out. But it would have been a really good idea!

@SilenceInside im also going to need a new pen in the middle of the trip…. Hence I’m keen on keeping everything cold.

Next time, I’m planning my hols around my MJ schedule!

Would it be crazy to buy a mini fridge in the UK and take it with you to use in your room?? You could take the unused pen in a cool bag with ice packs to keep it cool until you arrive.

Get a Frio insulin pouch, it’s activated by soaking in water and keeps things really cool without a fridge. I travel with one for insulin, actually safer than a hotel fridge as I’ve had insulin freeze in a hotel fridge and then is ineffective. The one I have is in a pink zippy bag and looks like a makeup bag/pencil case

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 10/06/2025 18:17

I think getting on a plane with a mini fridge might raise some eyebrows :)

On another thread re hiding the injection pen in the fridge someone suggested a tube of vitamin C tablets, another the box for tomato or garlic puree, another shoved hers into a head of celery as she did the cooking and knew it was the last thing her teens would investigate.

The Frio thing looks great. An extract from Amazon says -

  • Maintains a safe temperature of 18-26°C, even in a constant environmental temperatures of 37.8°C
  • In-use Insulin is safe in a FRIO wallet for up to 28 days (as per the life of in-use insulin kept above fridge-temperature)

Which suggests to me that you'll be sorted for an open pen but not for one which has not yet been opened and needs to be refrigerated that you need to travel with? That has to be kept between 2 & 8 degrees ?

This one does that but only for 24 hours and will only take one pen. Still hunting.

I think I assumed they wouldn’t be flying.

MyHouseInThePrairie · 10/06/2025 19:02

I’m not flying but taking the train so yes the fridge idea won’t be practical either!

@TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams these are very good ideas 😂
I was thinking I might put some supplements in a little make up bag thing with the pens and say they are probiotics so need to stay cool.

Ive seen the travel box you’ve linked to and I think that’s the best I found too. The rest (plugged in etc…) is just so expensive. And I’m not sure I’d want to keep swapping the gel thingy everyday or so to avoid the fridge. I’m too likely to forget 🫣🫣

Another supporter of the Frio wallet here! Have been to Barbados twice with MJ in the wallet with no issues. You just keep refreshing the gel in the wallet in cold water (as per instructions). Had no issues. I’ll use it on my forthcoming holiday to Italy in July (where it is already over 30 degrees)!!

marshmallowfinder · 11/06/2025 00:52

You can get wash bag sized lockable bags on Amazon. I got one with a 3 digit combination lock on it. Put the whole thing in the fridge and say its probiotics or beauty products
