Sick as dog on 12.5 Monjaro

I’ve been on MJ since January. For me, I’ve had no side effects and my weightloss has been very slow and steady. I’ve lost 2.5 stone. I’m very happy with how it’s gone.
However 2 weeks ago I stepped up to 12.5mg. I immediately started with diarrhoea and gassy sulpur bros no matter what I ate. The symptoms subsided after 3 days. The next week I took my second 12.5 injection (thinking my body was getting used to it). It was way worse. Explosive diarrhoea, gas and literally zero appetite, Zero. It’s been nearly a week of this. That’s just not healthy!
So I’ve ordered another 10mg pen and when it arrives I’ll go back down. However, I’m now wondering about stopping all together. I know my appetite will come back but atm anything is better than this!

Has anyone experienced similar?

*sulpur burps (not bros)

I was just like you: v steady but slow
loss, virtually no side effects bar a bit of tiredness. When I went up to 12.5, the tiredness became epic, I was headachey, and my voice was always hoarse from the dryness

Like you, my re-order is for 10mg

I was like this on 7.5mg. Struggled to get out of bed for 2 days.

Can I ask why you went up to 12.5 when 10 was working for you? If I were you, the next doses of your 12.5 I would just do a dose of 10 (be about 50 clicks of that pen) and hopefully that will settle the side effects you are having.

I stayed on 2.5 for ages, am now on 5 and don't intend moving up at all.

Has horrible as this is to hear, it’s reassuring! I’m going to see how I am back on the 10mg. Am prepared to even go back to 7.5mg.
fingers crossed for us all.

I ended up in hospital when I went up from 2.5mg to 5mg
i had hideous diarrhoea for 8 days and needed 3 potassium drips,1 magnesium drip and a rehydration drip
I came off the jabs a month ago and want to try again but I’m scared it will happen again

Yes, I think it was because the weightloss was slow and I had a few emails from the pharmacy asking about stepping up. I got sucked in! Slow is best for me on reflection.

Did you look at food intake as most GI symptoms are due to food as mounjaro males us more sensitive to spicy, fatty greasy, fried, heavy carbs or even red meat which is difficult to digest and ferments in stomach. For me I've only suffered twice in 8 months and that was after a greasy beef burger and half a meatball pizza, fine with chicken pizza! also drinking plenty of water daily helps.

Mounraine · 09/06/2025 20:30

OP you could just take 10mg from your 12.5mg pen if you wanted.

@lovemycbf i also ended up in hospital week 1, although it’s now looking very likely that it wasn’t MJ-related. I decided to give it one more try, starting with just 1.25mg doses to build my confidence.

Edited

I was eating healthy and reduced portions.
The day I fell really unwell I’d not had spicy/greasy or meat
I was just awful side effects

I think I may try again soon but will stay on a low dose for a while as I’d lost a stone in the first month on 2.5mg then another stone in the week when I was unwell but that would have been dehydration

Weepixie · 09/06/2025 20:38

After 5 weeks in 12.5 I’m going back down to 10 on Wednesday. I’m exhausted and experiencing acid reflux. The latter could just be a co-incidence though as I’m seeing the surgeon on Thursday about my hernia.

Im very close to target and I’m going back down to 10 with just 4 or 5 kilos to lose so im not bothered about doing so but if I have to I’ll do 10 every 6 days instead of every 7.

PeachSnail · 10/06/2025 16:55

I've just had a very similar experience but on a much lower dose. I did my 2nd week of 3.75mg expecting it to be fine as I'd had no problems the previous week. But the next day, I had strong side effects (nausea, fatigue, burping, retching) and the day after that I had severe diarrhea that went on for 4 days. I'm now a week on from doing the jab and I can still barely eat and feel totally wiped out.

I think it's because the MJ levels accumulate in your system with each dose -- so I guess our bodies just hit a point where they couldn't tolerate those levels anymore.

I found the experience super scary and it really made me question whether I want to carry on. If I do, I'm going to go back to lower doses going forward.
