WLI lessons you’ve learned the hard way.

I’m sitting here feeling like my stomach has a brick in it, all because I got too hungry and ate my dinner too quickly and it’s now sitting there like a lump of concrete!

I’m only on W4 and have had minimal side effects, bit of heartburn etc but nothing a couple of Rennies couldn’t fix. But tonight, I realised how easy it is to fall into old habits, feel hungry and rush dinner just like I used to. 5 hours later and I still feel stuffed so I’m heading to bed to let it wear off. Lesson learned and I won’t be doing that again!

Has anyone else had any mishaps/lessons learned while on WLI? I guess doing it wrong is sometimes the only way to discover these things.

I’m gradually learning sometimes the hard way about portion sizes. I’m mostly eating salad with protein but even so sometimes the plate size is too big.

The other day I had an omelette with salad but I had made a 3 egg omelette with goats cheese and far too big a salad.

It should have been a 2 egg omelette without goats cheese and a lesser portion of salad. This week I found it easier to judge the reduction I need in portions. This is an ongoing learning curve for me at the moment 6 weeks in.

I forgot to drink enough (water) my first few weeks and ended up with terrible feet cramps and cystitis.

Ozgirl76 · 07/06/2025 02:47

I found that if I eat greasy food I feel utterly terrible! I had fish and chips and spent the whole afternoon feeling so queasy.
Also am still (months in) getting portion sizes wrong. I am often leaving 1/3 of my plate.

SecretSquirrel703 · 07/06/2025 14:31

definitely don't lie down until at least 2 hours after a meal, otherwise it's serious indigestion & overstuffed feeling

have indigestion tablets to hand at all times

also have water to hand for most of the day

'something' is required every day to keep everything regular, i use psyllium husk powder

portion sizes, definitely still learning that one!

meatyryvita · 07/06/2025 14:41

Hydrate very well indeed or you may spend an uncomfortable time trying to empty your bowels. Lesson learned!

  • Not eating too fast or I get windy and hickupy and nausea
  • I don't need as much on my plate as I think I do! (definite mindset change being worked on here)
  • Not drinking enough water and then wondering why I feel really peckish and like crap and constipated (like today)
  • Not eating enough fruit and veg and getting constipated.

Lots of constipation related consequences 😂

gimmemounjaro · 07/06/2025 14:53

serve up half of what you think you want, you can always have a bit more

choose what to eat based on how it will make you feel afterwards

2x kiwis are excellent for constipation

eating slowly and not doing anything else while eating makes it very difficult to go past the point of comfortable fullness (I really struggle with this one and am usually on my phone or watching something while eating, must try harder)

exercise feels awful for the first few minutes but if you can get past that it feels great

don’t forget to talk nicely to yourself at all times, be your own best pal and be sure to notice and celebrate your progress, not just on the scales but in all aspects of life

I’m almost 4 months in. I stuck at 5mg twice and regretted not going up because it became ineffective by then. You’re supposed to go up (medical advice to the contrary non-withstanding of course) through the doses for a reason. I should be on 10mg now but I’m only just starting 7.5.mg. Annoying! I should also be about 6 lbs lighter! Oh well.

Nomoretopswithblacktrousers · 07/06/2025 18:52

Not comparing myself progress to others. I had less than some to lose but my weight loss rate has stayed steady at 1.3 lbs per week so I'm really pleased 4 months on.

I have also kept my calorie intake higher than most (around 1750 including exercise) as it works for me. I've also not lost a lot of hair.

Knowing that microdosing would be better for me. I was reluctant at the first but decided to go ahead with it and it's worked well.

I am fine using a medication for longer than 30 days. The evidence about infections is based on evidence with a lot of uncertainty. For example 1 study used the same needle for 100 injections into a tyre.

Ouch, I grimaced when I read that. I can only imagine!

I woke up today and thankfully the ‘brick’ feeling had gone. I’ve eaten much more slowly and carefully today.

And oh yes, I second what a PP said about Rennies. I bought a giant pack and now have some in the car, some at work and some at home. I don’t get indigestion but I get random heartburn.

I have just NOT followed my own advice again and HOOVERED dinner and now I'm uncomfortable.

God damn my love for mashed potato and gravy 😭🤬🤬🤬

Mich57 · 11/06/2025 21:00

Eating a portion of crispy roast pork crackling and suffering for TWO days with that brick in my stomach.... 🤢

Not drinking enough and getting pot bound 😖

friendlycat · 11/06/2025 21:42

Lesson to self Movicol is quite powerful and you can go from one extreme to the next if you take two sachets.

Bipaloss · 11/06/2025 22:00

1 water water water , still on week 14 I forget to drink water towards end of the week (I get more thirsty after injection)

2 don’t make portions based on hunger but what I need to eat

3 a stall in weight will eventually shift (I plateaued for 3 weeks , week 10-13) , keep going

4 deffo don’t compare yourself to others

5 even if loosing a lot of weight people may not comments due social awareness is now less common to mention to someone that they lost weight (even if they see it) it’s how you feel that is important

MaryTheTurtle · 11/06/2025 22:13

On Weagoy
Constipation is utterly terrible
Moved up to 1mg and thought I was going to collapse, I felt so ill, had jelly legs, felt like I was out my body. Bloody awful. Then 3 days later the stomach cramps, hot flushes day and night, I’ve never wanted the week to end to get the stuff out of my body.

periods are non existent

eat anything like McDonald’s and it sits there in my stomach going woohoo I’m here let me make you feel terrible
