Moving up to 5mg or try 3.75mg

Hello, I'm due to take my first 5mg mounjaro injection tomorrow after 4 weeks on 2.5 mg, and was just thinking if I should jump straight to the full 5mg dose or try 3.75 this week/month.

I've tolerated the 2.5 well, however I have has some IBS type side effects off and on, managed with 1 imodium tablet daily if needed.

OP posts:
YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 01:22

The pharmacies don’t offer or prescribe a 3.75 do they?

Ozgirl76 · 06/06/2025 03:07

I moved from 2.5 to 3.75 after about 8 months on 2.5. I have had some nausea and tiredness, actually more than when I first went onto Mounjaro. I would increase to 3.75 first. It’s easy to do - you just count the clicks for a half dose.

50lbstolose · 06/06/2025 04:00

I did 5 weeks on 2.5 and 1 week so far on 3.75. I don't have the complete suppression I had when I started on 2.5, but I hated that complete food aversion

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 06/06/2025 08:52

So to get a different dose you are taking more than the prescribed 2.5 ?

or less than a 5mg pen. Which would leave you taking expired meds?

wobblybrain · 06/06/2025 08:54

you haven’t said how it’s been working for you?

OP is asking for the experiences of people who have done this. I’m sure she’s aware of the guidelines around expiry and has taken advice on this. FYI my prescriber has said that as long as the pen is kept cool after opening there is no risk in extending the time by a couple of weeks. If you decide to take that “risk” that’s up to you. I’m happy to take the risk.

Winter2020 · 06/06/2025 09:02

I went up the doses slowly from 2.5 to 5 by counting clicks. My husband went up in one jump "as prescribed". The first week we thought he had food poisoning from chicken when he had terrible vomiting and diarrhoea and was off work for several days, when it happened again the second week kicking in a couple of days after the jab we realised it was the Mounjaro.

Everyone reacts differently but as you don't know if you will be someone that has severe side effects I would move up slowly.

I did end up moving back down the doses due mostly to eggy burps and also some diarrhoea but nothing like the extent.

Really?? Which provider is advocating misuse? They are VERY clear you take the prescribed dose and don’t adjust it

and you are saying you now need to refrigerate a pen after opening? That’s not what guidance sheets say…..or do you have proof?

Ozgirl76 · 06/06/2025 09:21

I haven’t said it has to be refrigerated? I said keep cool - as in, not get warm.

As I say, I’m answering the OPs questions on this thread. If it isn’t applicable to you, you can scroll on by.

I’ve been extending my pen for months - it’s a “risk” I’m fully prepared to take.

Ozgirl76 · 06/06/2025 09:21

I even do the golden dose too! I picture you clutching your pearls at this too 😄

PearlsPearl · 06/06/2025 10:00

People love to judge on here. We can all make our assessed risks!

This is sometimes advised... but aslong as its kept in the fridge it will be fine another week. Do you really think they produce it monthly what about shipping and allsorts.. and storage.. they just say it's best before..

OccasionallyOccurring · 07/08/2025 11:32

Mounjaro should be stored in the refrigerator to maintain its potency (how well it works). The recommended temperature control range is between 2°C and 8°C (36°F and 46°F). It's important to avoid temperature fluctuations, which can affect Mounjaro's effectiveness.7 Oct 2024

@OccasionallyOccurring this thread is over 2 months old since last posts. I'm sure everyone has moved on at least a couple of pen since then!

If you are going to resurrect old threads at least get your facts right!.............medications do not come with "best before" dates they have expiration dates.

Have you read the instructions. It says put in the fridge until you use your first dose. Then you can store anywhere as long as it is under 30degrees and you use the pen up as prescribed.

TreesOfGreen99 · 07/08/2025 13:22

Actually the Op never posted that she would continue with the same pen beyond 30 days. I am using a 5mg pen but taking a lower dose, I discard the pen after 30 days.

the fourth dose in a pen is taken 21 days after the first. you can go to a fifth dose a week later and still be two days within the 30
