What do you wear? How to find a ‘style’ after losing weight?

I’m new to MJ (W3) but already thinking ahead to what it’ll be like when I’ve lost a significant amount of weight (4 stone to lose). For over 10 years, I’ve dressed to hide my body, lots of black or baggy clothes, anything to make me ‘invisible’.

Started thinking last night that while I always look presentable (I do hair and makeup etc), I have no idea what I’d wear at a lower weight. I don’t have a ‘style’? I’m not really into personal shoppers etc so I think I’d just need to work it out as I went along.

Has anyone who has lost a lot of weight, also gone through this? Did you have to consciously think through what sort of things you wanted to wear or did it just happen naturally? I can’t imagine what it’d be like to wear a dress or a shirt and be primarily interested in whether it covered me up sufficiently. It would be lovely to fall in love with clothes but I wouldn’t know where to begin.

I really wouldn't worry about it so early on tbh. When you do get there (or at points along the way when your body shape changes) you can just experiment.

Yes it's frustrating not knowing how to dress my own body at 58 years old but I was given the advice of buying different shapes on Vinted and playing about with different looks. I am 8 stone down so my body is completely different to what it used to be. The biggest problem I am actually having is finding jeans that I love the look of! I am short too so that adds in another issue 😫

You'll get there👍

Dont buy anything until you've lost your weight (well only really cheap things). I made this mistake and had to chuck out stuff I never wore in the end

I now wear quite tight clothing, no elasticated waists, no stretchy stuff, things that actually fit rather than swamp. And its difficult because a lot of designs are completely shapeless and swamp you, clothes are cut terribly in this country, I try to buy stuff when Im in Italy or Spain, much nicer cuts, better fit.

I’m 5 stone down since Sept last year and currently size 12 (although a pair of size 10 jeans did up the other day just felt a tad snug). I’ve been in size 20 up since I was a teenager so this is all really really new and very weird.

Im trying on lots and lots of clothes, taking selfies and trying to figure out what is flattering and what makes me feel good. I’m buying stuff on Vinted and then selling it if I hate it or when I shrink out of it.

So far I’ve discovered that my legs are fabulous and I love having them out, that I look better in the yoga style tighter shorts than the running style baggier shorts because I have narrow hips (turns out it was all fat not my bone structure) so baggy shorts look weirdly proportioned on me.

After trying on eleventy billion pairs of jeans I can’t wear high rise none of them feel or look good, mid rise are ok but low rise are best, unfortunately they’re also out of fashion currently so a bastard to find.

It’s kind of like being a teenager again, doing all of the exploration of who you are style wise and making all the fashion mistakes all over again. Thankfully this time I can skip the orange foundation and clumpy mascara phase because I’ve made that mistake in the past already.
