Would you jab up for this holiday or simply make good choices?

Dad’s 70th birthday in Spain, the entire family will be going, and we’re staying for 5 days. There will be some drinking (Glaswegian family 😄) and many meals out.
I have lost a couple of stone already. I am tempted not to take my Mounjaro over that time, but am slightly nervous not to, and to go back to experiencing ‘normal’ hunger. That said, the suppression on 5mg hasn’t been great for me anyway. I will be on either 7.5 at the time of the break, or just starting 10 (depending on how 7.5 has gone).
I was on 2.5 during a trip to Morocco at Easter, and despite making good choices throughout - with the exception of one meal - the Mounjaro induced diarrhoea was something else. And I know it was Mounjaro related because of the sulphur burps.

What would you do?

I would take it as usual, and have done when I’ve been away. But it sounds like you want to skip an injection, so I’d choose what’s right for you not for me or anyone else here.

Even if you miss a dose, you won’t go back to no Mounjaro at all, just lower levels than if you’d taken the injection as normal.

I keep going with my injections when I'm on holiday/away. It helps me not get carried away else I will likely have extra treats or unhealthy options because 'I'm on holiday'. It's ok if you only go away for a week a year, but if you are away most months for 60-70 nights a year, then well, it helps explain why the weight crept on to begin with... I'm using MJ to help reinforce the view that the holiday is the treat and rewarding activities can be non food related. I usually plan a treat or two for the holiday e.g. a cream tea, or fish and chips, but I don't need treats several times a day for the whole trip. I'm really trying to get away from the fact that I need to eat a certain way in order for my holiday to be fun and enjoy myself.

I'm teetotal, so alcohol is never an issue for me anyway, but why do you have to drink alcohol just because everyone else is? You do you and drink/eat what you want surely, same as everyone else can eat/drink what they want to? I haven't been able to drink alcohol since I was about 20, so have spent my whole adult life like this. I still socialise with others and it's just not a thing that I don't drink... It just means I am nearly always the driver 🤦‍♀️😂

I wouldn't stop for a holiday

DanAW · 27/05/2025 22:17

Lost 3lb whilst recently in Dubai for a week just keep your steps up and enjoy yourself

IsItSnowing · 28/05/2025 08:11

It's a personal choice obviously but I would stay on it. I've been on 2 holidays since I started MJ and have stuck with it both times.
For me, it's pointless saying I'll make better choices because I had years to do that and I didn't.

Part of the re-education of my eating habits for me is to not see holidays, birthdays, christmas etc as an excuse to over eat. It would just be a slippery slope for me.

HeavyHeidi · 28/05/2025 08:13

I will keep going, I don't have any side effects and frankly have really enjoyed my holidays where I don't overeat and don't feel like drinking alcohol. Family dinners can be just as enjoyable when I simply eat less of the food.

User27563 · 28/05/2025 08:22

I'm planning not to stop for my holiday, but to either gradually shift or slightly stretch my days so I am not injecting whilst there and/or definitely don't go up a dose that week.
If I'm in a phase of tummy upset/burps a day or two after injecting which sometimes happens then I will take a slightly lower dose.

tryingtobesogood · 28/05/2025 08:55

I am going away in June, the first week for work and the second for a holiday. I’m thinking of taking one jab before I go, then when I get back, so skipping the one in the middle. I often have a few days of gurgly tummy, strong suppression and go off alcohol the couple of days after I inject.

I’ve paid a lot of money for this holiday and part of the fun is being able to go out and eat and drink. I will carry on making healthy choices, but this is a marathon and not a sprint. After this holiday, I have nothing major happening for months and will focus back on weight loss.

User27563 · 28/05/2025 09:48

Yes for me it's not ~completely~ about stopping or reducing so I can stuff my face, it's so I don't feel unwell or have tummy trouble as I will be probably eating and drinking a bit more and more rich food, which is not unusual on holiday.

I don't want to diet forever and don't feel like I'm on a diet now, I want to eat like a normal person! Without binging. And it's normal to eat a little more than usual on holiday.

Icedcaramelfrappe · 28/05/2025 09:49

I've had two holidays and one I jabbed and one I didnt, I would defo jab. The food noise was pretty crazy on the one I didnt and it was very annoying. When I Jabbed I still ate but smaller portions and I didnt miss out

Peridot1 · 28/05/2025 09:53

If the holiday is only for five days I’d probably just delay my shot till I got back. Depending on when you are due to take it. It will still be in your system so you will have some benefit.

Letshavetea1 · 28/05/2025 18:05

I’ve been on two long haul holidays since I started in October ‘24. I stayed on MJ and took it with me both times (did two injections whilst away for each holiday). I ate smaller portions and had some alcohol each day. I didn’t gain but sts for both holidays. It was the right decision for me. On my next holiday in July I will do the same.

AmythestBangle · 28/05/2025 18:13

I'm going away for a week, I have been moving my injection day so I can take one the day I go and have the next one the day I get back.

I summer I am going away for 5 weeks. I will spread out a pen over the first 30 days, taking the first dose as I leave so no fridge needed for the pen. Then a new pen when I get back.

TheChosenTwo · 28/05/2025 22:35

I’ve just been away for 10 days. In the weeks leading up to it I pushed my jab day back by a day each week until I could take it the night before holiday. Didn’t take it with me so just did my next jab this evening. Didn’t notice any food noise but I was eating more ‘fun food’ just because I was away - put on 2.5lbs in the 2 weeks I hadn’t weighed myself but as soon as I got back today I’ve returned to my usual eating routine, 2 meals a day, carbs once a day and no booze unless it’s a special occasion and i fancy it. Rather than daily bread/potatoes/chips although much smaller portions! And booze every day, some days just a beer with lunch or a glass or two of wine with dinner, nothing massively excessive but definitely more than I drink on a normal non holiday basis!

Gillandtonic · 17/07/2025 09:36

I found this post as I’m wondering the same thing myself. I’ve not touched alcohol since starting this journey 3 months ago. I’ve lost 3.5 stone but I am massive and I believe the more you have to loose the bigger the drops. I’m due to jab on Friday night then fly on Tuesday for a week.
I had a bad experience with a Sunday dinner that had me throwing up. I just over ate. I don’t want that on holiday.
My kids haven’t noticed my diet but they will if we sit down together and notice I’m not eating anything. My daughter is a teenager and I don’t want her getting influenced by my dieting. Both kids have had kids fat shaming their mum in arguments so I’m super sensitive. In my heart I’d like a break for a week to enjoy myself…but not go crazy. But also I don’t want to undo what I started.

Peridot1 · 17/07/2025 10:01

@Gillandtonic - but you do still need to eat so how will they notice you not eating? Depending on where you are going it can be relatively easy to eat healthy food on holiday. And the odd ice cream or whatever is not a bad thing.

HollyhockDays · 17/07/2025 10:19

I’ve stopped for Christmas and holidays. I put on a few lbs but lost it again.

MsTamborineMan · 17/07/2025 11:03

I skipped 2 doses for a holiday, not so I could eat what I wanted but because I knew the food was going to be fattier and I didn't want to get sick in a tent!

I still found it easy to make good food choices, my appetite stayed less throughout the holiday. I obviously ate differently to at home but I wasn't craving pizza/chips and good noise remained low. I did drink loads of alcohol tbh Confused After my holiday I had initially gained weight but after a few days went back to as it was before, so was just water weight. And went back to losing again the week after

PermanentTemporary · 17/07/2025 11:14

I personally would keep up the dose but stick to the dose you already know you are tolerating.
