Apologies for the injection pun (plunge)

I’ve read enough now to be convinced mounjaro is the way to go for me and i need to get started!

Is it literally a case of finding the cheapest provider and starting on 2.5? Then when going up to 5mg, to shop around again for the cheapest provider? Can you literally switch pharmacies whenever you like, as many times as you like?

I’ve read a bit here about finding a maintenance friendly pharmacy, if you want that, do you have to start with them and stay with them from the beginning?

Also we go on holiday for a few days next Tuesday, is it too risky to order a pen before we go?

Any starter advice would be great.

I thought I had 5 stone to lose, but it’s more like 7 tbh (weighed this morning) but I can see people are definitely losing that with injections so I’m ready!!!

Hi @User99999999 to answer your questions…

yes you just choose your supplier and everyone starts on the 2.5mg dose, which you take for 4 weeks minimum. You usually get new customer/referral discounts for your first order with a pharmacy. Some pharmacies don’t do those but are just consistently cheap, some don’t do them but are consistently expensive! Some pharmacies offer a subscription model where you are automatically sent out the next pen after 4 weeks and often you’re automatically sent the next dose up, unless you actively tell them not to. Some places offer additional support, like apps, coaching either via ai bots or actual people, and so on. Usually more expensive than ones that don’t. All pharmacies will be contactable for questions, either via email/phone/social media or via their website account messaging. Check out https://monj.co.uk for a price comparison.

You can stay with the same provider or swap to another whenever you like to take advantage of discounts. You can do that as much as you like.

There’s a list on the Monj site of maintenance friendly pharmacies. Most will take you on as long as you can show your prescription history, you shouldn’t need to be with them from the start.

Regarding going on holiday on Tuesday, assuming you mean the 27th, it might be pushing it to sign up, get approved and for the pen to be sent out to you before then. It’s only 3 working days and new customers need to upload photos, or videos or do a video call to confirm height/weight/bmi before the order can be confirmed. I think I’d just order it as soon as you get back.

Oh, also there are usually threads running for people starting WLI each month on here. There’s a May one already and I’m sure someone will start a June one which might suit you.

That’s great thank you for helping.

I am looking at one pharmacy, currently the lowest price using a code on the Monj site (not sure if naming the site violates mumsnet rules) and yes it does look like a subscription. It doesn’t really explain about the dosage and whether it automatically rises with each month. However, like you say I’m better off waiting till after my holiday to apply and that gives me some time to contact the site and work it all out. Thank you ☺️

You can name the site. The only thing that MN will remove is if you post a referral code or link on a thread that’s not in the Promo Codes section.

Ok that’s good to know, thank you

Regarding your question on timing (assuming you’re in the UK): I’ve ordered from Juniper (expensive) and Oushk (mid-priced).

With Juniper you can hold off confirming your acceptance of the prescription until the day before you get home from holiday, and the earliest it will arrive is next day. And then for orders after your first you can amend the week (eg delay a week or bring it up earlier). This may have changed as I haven’t ordered from them since February.

With Oushk you can set your delivery date from your first order and choice of courier between Royal Mail and DPD.

I’ve found that Bank holidays can cause backlogs in deliveries with all suppliers so something to bear in mind.

You do want to be around to receive it due to the cold storage. Needs to go in the fridge.
